Possibly one of the few payoffs from covid-19?

OP posts:
EL8888 · 15/03/2020 19:12

@PlayingGrownUp yeah l will be nipping that in the bud if my manager starts on that. I work more than enough thanks

KindnessCrusader · 15/03/2020 19:19

I've done my shop online because we're a family of 6 so every week it looks like stockpiling (it's usually eaten in approx 60 seconds Grin)

PlinkiePlonk · 15/03/2020 21:46

We had a good friend over yesterday who must have told my DP and myself at least 4 times that she will have to give up her job or at least not get paid if schools close as her and her partner would have no childcare for their DD and her DH would have to work due to what he does. We WFH. Implication or am I overthinking?

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 15/03/2020 22:00

Great thread.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/03/2020 22:27

“I’m pregnant. It’s because other people stockpiled condoms, it’s so unfair, I’m blaming the government”.

Whatsername177 · 15/03/2020 22:30

I'm a teacher and if we close I will look after one or two of dds friends so people can work. I dont think its cheeky to ask, people will be desperate.

Sh05 · 15/03/2020 23:25

This has been set up in Bolton. I'm sure there must be similar in other towns as well

An employee tried telling us she had the virus.....two weeks before it was in the uk and her "symptoms" didn't match. I heard another saying "if I even sneeze I'll be taking my 2 weeks off on full pay. I informed her she would only get paid ssp

I always have plenty of medicine, toilet rolls, long life food such as tinned food and pasta/rice etc. I feel sorry for people who can only get to one shop. They have no chance against the selfish fuckers buying 20 packs of something and not leaving any for the next person.

WaterOffADucksCrack · 16/03/2020 00:25

Only took until the second comment trying to pit wohm and sahms against each other. It's also a sexist post about working mothers with no mention of working fathers. It would probably be ok if the man asked because he has a big important job and can't possibly do womens work. In uncertain times there is always comforting MN sexism to be certain of.

SnoozyLou · 16/03/2020 00:53

"My mum has decided to self isolate so I thought I'd cheer her up by taking the kids over. She couldn't resist."

I'll bet.

SilverySurfer · 16/03/2020 00:53

Bad CFery I read on here was that someone stole all the hand sanitisers at the end of beds in a hospital ward. I hope the fuckers get the virus. How low would you have to go to do that?

MorganKitten · 16/03/2020 01:02

If schools close I will be off, I’ve already been told by friends I will be looking after their kids, I’ve told them how much I charge an hour babysitting.

Stompythedinosaur · 16/03/2020 01:14

I have a friend who is going to be locked into a care home if someone comes down with the virus. They had a speech from management. Basically anyone that isn’t locked in won’t get paid. People who are locked in will only get paid their regular shifts. If you have dependants look to family and friends for help. If there is no one contact social services for foster care arrangements. Management will self isolate from home and communicate via telephone/internet. She has a grown up son luckily.

This isn't legal in any way.

lyralalala · 16/03/2020 07:18

I'm a SAHM as my youngest has severe health issues and needs constant care. MIL also lives here. I've already been told, not asked, by 8 people "Oh you'll be my lifesaver when I need childcare".

Erm nope. If schools close my SIL's kids will move in here for the duration (she's an ICU nurse) and we'll be shutting ourselves off from the world to protect DD

If this happens, it's probably the only time you'll be going straight to the Daily Fail!

Hippee · 16/03/2020 13:34

KindnessCrusader - I know what you mean. I feel guilty doing my normal shop for a family of five - though now I can't do a full shop because there isn't enough stuff in the shops.

Potionqueen · 16/03/2020 13:57

@lyralalala thank you for doing that for your sil.

MissConductUS · 16/03/2020 14:09

@MauriceandAlec

Blitz spirit was also mostly part mythical/part draconian measures by the government, including suppression of free speech (it was made a crime to express negative views about the war in public) - the UK was rife with corruption, blackmail, organised crime and looting in this period. A bomb would hit and there was no shortage of people appearing to loot the very corpses

What really opened my eyes to this historical fact was the fabulous TV series Foyle's War, set in wartime Britain. Foyle caught draft dodgers, looters, fire brigades robbing houses that had been bombed, etc. It also showed so much decency, courage and caring among the people at the time.

Biddie191 · 16/03/2020 14:26

My daughter (15) was convinced that the bloke hovering when she was unloading the trolley into my car was after our single packs of macaroni and loo roll. I'd just gone back in to grab some milk. She's not very big, but fortunately he scuttled off when someone she recognised came past. This was pretty close to the doors of the shop, too.

dragonlangx · 16/03/2020 16:28

I work for local government and we have already had someone nick the bottle of hand sanitiser off the reception desk.
Sadly Its only a matter of time before someone gets caught stealing loo roll or soap from the toilets or cleaners store room.

I was at a local fast food place at the weekend and they had to tie the soap dispensers in the bathroom to the wall with cable ties

dentydown · 16/03/2020 17:03

People are selling tiny bottles of hand sanitizer for a fiver in our town. They were “aggressive beggars” now they are selling 50p hand sanitizer.

handslikecowstits · 16/03/2020 17:04

CFs in my local garden centre this morning had stolen the toilet roll. Overheard one member of staff asking the other if they'd mind filling the dispensers again as someone had stolen the new rolls that they'd only just put on.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 16/03/2020 17:16

dentydown

That's nuts. They are completely deluded to think they might get away with that.

LannieDuck · 16/03/2020 18:00

I was thinking about the CF threads as I walked back from the shops today - the weather's starting to get nice enough that kids can play in the garden again.

As soon as they schools are out, we'll have threads about neighbours' kids screaming in the garden all day as ppl are trying to WFH...

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 16/03/2020 18:20

One of my colleagues-a mild man who I have rarely heard swear- told us that sanitizer had been stolen from the children’s cancer ward his son attends. The air was blue.
I bought a pack of anti bac wipes for my desk for the phone, keyboard etc. I walked in to one of the cleaners walking out with them.(they are well supplied) She put them back tout fucking suite.
