AIBU to say the health minister should be sacked?

I mean the one who ignored her own symptoms and her own department's advice and has now potentially infected Parliament and other colleagues and the 50 possibly elderly constituents she met with on Saturday for a cup of tea.

How flippant, blasé and irresponsible can some in our government get? What is the matter with them?

Hold on, she had symptoms only on Friday. Tested positive Tuesday. Doesn’t say what she did Sat-Mon but she doesn’t seem to have been in parliament. Do you have more information stating otherwise?

YeOldeTrout · 11/03/2020 18:59

She had a surgery with constitutents on Saturday.
If she didn't have known exposure then I don't think the advice is that she was supposed to isolate & act like she could know what she had for sure.

Can't stand ND but don't like the police-state like expectations, either.

coconuttelegraph · 11/03/2020 19:00

Until the full facts are known who can say, maybe we won't ever know if she choses to keep her medical details private

TSSDNCOP · 11/03/2020 19:00

The surgery was Friday.

TSSDNCOP · 11/03/2020 19:01

I hope she feels better soon, that not too many others are affected and her 84 mum that she lives with keep well.

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2020 19:02

How do we know she ignored symptoms

Monsterjam · 11/03/2020 19:03

Yes you are

TSSDNCOP · 11/03/2020 19:04

We don’t Stealth but then we wouldn’t be able to demand she’s sacked along with having the virus.

TSSDNCOP · 11/03/2020 19:05

Disclaimer: I am not a fan or nor am I Nadine. But come on, where’s your humanity OP?

DoubleAction · 11/03/2020 19:05

Unless she had been to one of the danger areas or had direct contact with a known sufferer, she did follow advice.

It maybe that the advice needs updating but as of today, the advice is still that you should self isolate with symptoms only in those circumstances.

firstimemamma · 11/03/2020 19:07

Yanbu but if that were to happen he'd most likely be replaced by some like-minded tosser! Depressing but true.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 11/03/2020 19:14

@firstimemamma
In your eagerness to denounce a Tory cabinet minister, you didn't even read the op properly.
Nadine is female

KizzyWayfarer · 11/03/2020 19:14

Personally I’d like to sack the entire cabinet as Johnson and his cronies terrify me, policy-wise. BUT I saw a tweet from Nadine Dorries where she said her 84 year old mum was showing symptoms. She’s a human being, she’s going to be really worried for her mum, and it doesn’t sound like she went against advice.

Pippa12 · 11/03/2020 19:17

Talk about jumping to conclusions. I just hope she has a speedy recovery. I think this post is in bad taste in view of further deaths today...

BadCatDirtyCat · 11/03/2020 19:18

If she didn't have contact with a known infected person how did she manage to get tested? No one else seems able to in that situation.

I think she should be sacked for many reasons - keeping an open mind about whether this is one of them.

I hope her mum gets better though.

firstimemamma · 11/03/2020 19:23

@Absolutepowercorrupts thanks for that, I'm aware nadine is a female. It was a simple typo and I'm truly sorry for it. Only on mumsnet do you get a swift telling off for missing one letter out of a post!

Findawaytobehappy · 11/03/2020 19:24

Do we know where she caught it??

Pippa12 · 11/03/2020 19:54

All admissions to a hospital setting with a community acquired pneumonia are now tested, regardless of foreign travel and contact.

Cacaca · 11/03/2020 20:03

Get a grip - do you think she caught it intentionally? The symptoms will have likely taken days to appear - if she had no idea she had been in contact with someone infected how do you expect her to have self isolated. Idiot.

TSSDNCOP · 11/03/2020 20:05

You coming back OP?

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 11/03/2020 20:05

Yes because she's a horrible woman, but not because she got ill.

I fundamentally disagree with pretty much her entire voting history, but it would be wrong to sack someone for getting a virus.

HeresMe · 11/03/2020 20:08

To be fair the OP did say the health minister which indeed a man. Nadine is the health ministers deputy.

Greysparkles · 11/03/2020 20:08

I have a sore throat coming on, and haven't knowingly beenund an affected people.
Should I also not go to work tomorrow OP?

Marshmello · 11/03/2020 20:09

Some of you have presumed I don't feel sorry for her. Of course I do. And I didn't know about her mum - that's even worse. Of course my heart goes out to them.

But what I find astonishing is the attitude of the government and health leaders. In Ukraine they have closed schools today and have stopped public events. They have like one case. And they don't want more.

Here my friend arrived from Rome to Gatwick this morning, was not even questioned at any point. She got a lift home with a friend and is self isolating. She said she's terrified here because there's zero reaction/proactive defence. In Italy she felt safer because of all the measures now.

Here it's like they're just waiting for everyone to get it. Wtf? It didn't need to be inevitable. But they're juggling their game re financial implications of drastic action. So playing with our lives.

I read Nadine had symptoms of a fever and dry cough by Thursday. She took full part in meetings etc, including meeting 20 constituents on Saturday when she already had definite classic symptoms.

This feels like not taking it seriously. And she's supposed to set an example. Be on board.

I've been taking measures for nearly two weeks. And I'm not a health minister. I'm just a mother and scared.

OP posts:
lljkk · 11/03/2020 20:10

ND says her elderly mother has symptoms, too. I think poor old Ma has had it bad enough already being ND's mother. I don't wish ill on either of them.
