To think DH is over reacting?

We were watching a news story about a Whale that had been spotted somewhere it had no business being and then they turned to a young kid who had witnessed it and said something about “12 year old Max is worried”. They then went on to interview Max.

DH threw a cushion at the TV and told Max to shut up Hmm I told him to stop it so he shouted “fucking Max and his importance” Confused anyway he’s gone on about it ever since, keeps telling people about it (always exagurates it) and everytime something is on the news he shouts “but what would Max think??” And often throws a cushion. He won’t say why it’s annoyed him so much but won’t stop going on about it. AIBU to think ok it was a bit of an over reaction at the time and now he’s just being weird and should forget about it?

He gets annoyed about kids lecturing adults on the world (don’t even get me started on Greta) but for some reason he’s become obsessed with Max and will often ponder to himself what Max is doing now etc, is he still worried etc etc. It’s all a bit not quite right.

That's funny OP I would just laugh

Freezingold · 08/03/2020 11:23

Is he trying to be funny?!

I think you should start throwing a cushion too.

purplemunkey · 08/03/2020 11:23

everytime something is on the news he shouts “but what would Max think??”

This actually made me laugh. I can’t gauge how ‘angry’ he really is from your description, or whether he’s just a bit fed up of this kind of nonsense reporting and making a joke if it.

veryphishy · 08/03/2020 11:24

Me and my partner regularly shout at the TV when randoms are being interviewed about events. Why are they asking someone how they feel about a bloody whale, he's not going to say 'fuck the whale who gives a shit' is he. I don't care what Brenda from Kettering thinks about the whale or Coronavirus or whatever.

I wouldn't throw a cushion in case we broke the telly.

Slight overreaction from your husband but I can't see the issue unless there's more to this.

SallyWD · 08/03/2020 11:34

This is very strange. I can only understand it if he's actually joking and pretending to be angry

KatherineJaneway · 08/03/2020 11:36

When I was young no one would dream of interviewing a child on TV for something like this, they were to be seen and not heard. Same as Greta, no way would she be on TV and even if she was, they would say she was a pretentious young madam who should keep her opinions to herself and let the adults sort it. Maybe he still has remnants of these thoughts / opinions leftover from his own childhood?

partofthepeanutgallery · 08/03/2020 11:39

Does your Dh have a history of MH issues? Anger issues? Has the appearance of Greta and young climate change activists send him round the bend mentally ...?

I'd be a bit concerned about the underlying anger, tbh.

Hopoindown31 · 08/03/2020 11:40

He has probably just lost it, like me, with the media just doing random vox pops and asking celebrities what the think about every issue.

I gave a quick fist pump when I saw the video of Jürgen Klopp telling off that journo that asked for his opinion of the coronovirus outbreak.

FortunesFave · 08/03/2020 11:41

I think it's funny. I relate. But then I got annoyed at Greta Thunberg with her "HOW DARE YOU!??:"

I mean...it's not like us old people give a shit about the environment is it?

Bluntness100 · 08/03/2020 11:43

That’s very very odd behaviour. Does he have issues in his life where he feels he’s not as respected as he should be? His opinion isn’t sought? Work or whatever? That’s the only thing I can think of, he’s pissed a kid got asked, but no one wants his opinion on fuck all.

LemonTT · 08/03/2020 11:44

I do get the sentiment that the reporters should ask an expert about this situation. I’m not sure what a 12 year old knows about marine biology. Shit reporting.

It’s different from the Greta publicity. She is a figure head for a movement of people already convinced of a single cause. She is not an expert either. To be honest her lack of expertise shows up in how repetitive her speeches are. It’s fairly easy to call for action if you don’t have to understand or address the complexity of the situation. She’s low on solutions that would be acceptable to the electorate at large.

As to the main issue, I would be worried about cushions being thrown at modern TVs. They just aren’t robust enough for that anymore.

Hopoindown31 · 08/03/2020 11:45

Well, we don't seem to elect leaders that do.

drinkygin · 08/03/2020 11:48

@Zaphodsotherhead same here! The fact you’re taking it so seriously is what strikes me as odd tbh OP

Catapillarsruletheworld · 08/03/2020 11:49

I would laugh at how much of a knob he is acting.

Iooselipssinkships · 08/03/2020 11:49

I'm more interested in how many cushions you have. That's a lot being thrown.

Antipodeancousin · 08/03/2020 11:52

My OH and I were watching a foodie show on cheese production yesterday and the ‘expert’ described the smell of a cheese as ‘farmyardy’ and ‘sheepy’. We have been obsessed since then, describing all manner of household items in similar terms to our great amusement.
Does your DH maybe just have a different sense of humour to you?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 08/03/2020 11:54

Won't someone think of the poor reporter...30 seconds to fill , no real live actual experts to pontificate with, no knowledgeable local to talk about beach heritage, no fruity female with a low cut top to look decorative and chortle with reporter so they have to go with Max...a knowitall pre teen

...and back to the studio....

Honestly YABU just for watching what passes for news these days

My2catsarefab · 08/03/2020 11:56

Is the whale ok?

How big are your cushions?

So many questions....

BarbedBloom · 08/03/2020 11:58

Bit strange but I did laugh at, what would max think

Interestedwoman · 08/03/2020 12:04

YANBU He sounds mentally ill, and/or an alcoholic or something?

Interestedwoman · 08/03/2020 12:07

I can see why if he was just joking it'd be different, but its sound more bitter/angry and it's the unpredictability and throwing stuff that's disturbing.

Or at least, that's what I'm getting from your post OP?

pinkyredrose · 08/03/2020 12:09

Is he feeling ok?

DishingOutDone · 08/03/2020 12:10

Are you feeling ok?

Sparkletastic · 08/03/2020 12:12

He thinks he's being funny perhaps. Or he's having a breakdown. One of the two.
