To think DH is over reacting?

We were watching a news story about a Whale that had been spotted somewhere it had no business being and then they turned to a young kid who had witnessed it and said something about “12 year old Max is worried”. They then went on to interview Max.

DH threw a cushion at the TV and told Max to shut up Hmm I told him to stop it so he shouted “fucking Max and his importance” Confused anyway he’s gone on about it ever since, keeps telling people about it (always exagurates it) and everytime something is on the news he shouts “but what would Max think??” And often throws a cushion. He won’t say why it’s annoyed him so much but won’t stop going on about it. AIBU to think ok it was a bit of an over reaction at the time and now he’s just being weird and should forget about it?

Thats to OP not @pinky

ViciousJackdaw · 08/03/2020 12:18

I gave a quick fist pump when I saw the video of Jürgen Klopp telling off that journo that asked for his opinion of the coronovirus outbreak

Me too (and I wish I could upvote you for the umlaut!). Perhaps Max wears a baseball cap and has a bad shave?

GinDrinker00 · 08/03/2020 12:20

Is he having a mental break down? Or is it done in a jokey way? I’d be inclined to think he’s loosing it.

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 08/03/2020 12:21

YABU
I agree with your DH. Fuck Max and the horse he rode in on. Who died and made him the authority

LolaSkoda · 08/03/2020 12:24

I think he’s hilarious 🤣

GordonBennett20 · 08/03/2020 12:27

Haha "what would max think" would defo become a catchphrase in my house too, although not in an angry way.

My favourite line of your OP though is about how a whale was spotted "somewhere it had no business being" 😂 that phrase has really tickled me. Was it in your local M&S? Sat in your office typing at your computer when you got to work? On the london eye?

Raffles1981 · 08/03/2020 12:27

With this thread and the loud DH in the car, I'm beginning to think people are losing their minds 🙄

Elieza · 08/03/2020 12:35

He’s jealous of a wean.

Sounds like he’s well fucked off at stupid kids getting listened to and respected when he, a full grown and knowledgeable man, doesn’t get listened too. Why should anyone care what that little shit thinks he knows nothing, bloody self important weans, type of thing.

He has a point. I’m not interested in listening to a kid telling me what to do, feel, wear, eat or think.

That’s nice Max has an opinion. But I just don’t listen and consequently have no need to chuck cushions at the tv Grin

If Max lives in a coastal community and is the kind of child who is very close to the natural world he may well have a better idea as to what constitutes normal whale movement/behaviour than adults who do not live there. When I was that age, I certainly knew about normal migration patterns for the fish and birds in my local area and would have noticed if something seemed odd. I knew about these things like I knew about the currents and exactly what depth of keel could pass over any given piece of submerged rock at high or low water.
In that kind of community (if that is where Max lives), children start learning these things very young. And they often have more time than adults for daily observation.

Yes, experts with a PhD and a long research record will know more about general whale behaviour and general climate patterns. But they won't know what is normal for any particular piece of habitat or any particular whale.

And I would be seriously worried by a man whose ego is so fragile that he can't cope with the idea of a boy being more knowledgeable than him.

Reminds me of the man who was so taken aback when my then 13yo son pulled his large motor boat off the reef in a rowing boat. Some 13yos know how to read a sea chart and manoeuvre a boat. Plenty of middle-aged men don't.

ShawshanksRedemption · 08/03/2020 12:50

I don't feel from you that it's part of his humour OP.

My DH often rants at the TV over all sorts. Flinging cushions at it and continually ranting would seriously annoy me though - I just don't want to hear what sounds like a temper tantrum in a grown man.

gingersausage · 08/03/2020 13:13

I see the armchair psychiatrists are out in force this morning 🙄. Must be amazing to be able to diagnose mental illness with such utter certainty, with zero formal training! You should all volunteer to work for the NHS , god knows mental healthcare needs all the help it can get at the moment. Or stop talking shit.

Aweebawbee · 08/03/2020 13:14

Yeah, it's quite funny. Max would become a thing in our house.

PlugholePencil · 08/03/2020 13:26

Less then 100 comments in and someone has suggested he may be an alcoholic....

Ellie56 · 08/03/2020 13:29

This is the second bellend I've read about on here in the space of 5 minutes. Hmm

What's wrong with people?

Oakmaiden · 08/03/2020 13:33

Under 18 year olds shouldn't have opinions. They should be seen and not heard. And preferably not seen.

TheNewSchmoo · 08/03/2020 13:34

My Dad once told a random story about a cab driver and how he did some minor slight, and my Dad thought "go fuck yourself". It was such an out of character over-reaction that we couldn't breathe for laughing and we now in our family shout "go fuck yourself" at thrthe slightest misdeameanour. It's become a family joke.

Sounds like that

Zaphodsotherhead · 08/03/2020 13:38

What's wrong with people?

Too much listening to Max, maybe?

user1492809438 · 08/03/2020 13:43

He's behaving like a child.

CoronaMona · 08/03/2020 13:47

Why interview Max? Genuinely who cares what he thinks?

It’s like that segment SkyNews has on where it’s a group of irritating kids reporting on recent big stories and discussing it amongst themselves. It’s so clearly scripted and annoying. Kids that age don’t tend to watch Sky news and the adults that do watch it have no interest on hearing these kids spouting their opinions. Fuck off and leave it to the adults.

The4thSandersonSister · 08/03/2020 13:47

Has he ever thought of a career in Gogglebox. 😂

thepeopleversuswork · 08/03/2020 13:55

I do think this approach of asking the first child to hand to comment is lame and I can see why your DH was irritated.

But it does seem a bit of am over-reaction! Is there something else going on?

Finallyatooth · 08/03/2020 13:58

I get his point. Random member of the public vox-pops really get on my nerves.

TequilaMonster · 08/03/2020 14:05

Minus the cushion throwing, I get where he's coming from and would have found it quite funny too.

The anger though? Confused That's bizarre. Are you sure it's genuine anger? Is he generally a very sarcastic person?

WilliWilliWilli · 08/03/2020 14:05

Max sounds irritating to be fair and I would have got annoyed too. I mean, it’s not Max’s fault, it’s the journos fault but serious let Max get back to his homework and get an opinion from someone that knows what they’re on about. Same goes for Greta “how dare you” Thunberg

crispysausagerolls · 08/03/2020 14:13

This has really made me laugh! I agree with @Zaphodsotherhead that this would become a meme in our house 😂
