To be obsessed with the name Millie?

Hi all,
I absolutely adore the name Millie, but my friend says it sounds like a cow. I even crocheted a rag doll and called it Millie. Also, it must be spelled Millie NOT Milly, the former is really sweet, the latter is just very very middle aged.

I love the name. Yanbu!

peachgreen · 07/03/2020 19:17

I'm in NI and a Millie is basically a female chav (sorry for using the horrible c word) so that's all I can think about when I see it!

MondeoFan · 07/03/2020 19:18

I know soooo many Millies I'm frankly bored of it. Sorry

gamerwidow · 07/03/2020 19:23

Milly Molly Mandy's name was Millicent Margaret Amanda - Mandy is the diminutive of Amanda

RedPanda2 · 07/03/2020 19:26

It's very twee. Good name for a small dog or hamster.

LilouBlue · 07/03/2020 19:26

It will always be a dog name to me, after knowing someone who had one!

lazylinguist · 07/03/2020 19:27

YABU to be obsessed with it. It's a perfectly nice but very very common name. I must have taught about a gazilliion Millies (only one Milly, I think).

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 07/03/2020 19:28

I used to quite like Millicent but gone off it when in one of the episodes of New Tricks (I think) there was a characted called that who was eaten by wild pigs Envy

Mummyshark2018 · 07/03/2020 19:38

I don't like it, only because where I grew up it had a negative connotation. Working class girls who worked in the Mills were called Milly's.

honeyloops · 07/03/2020 19:39

The only Millie I've ever known was awful, so it's put me off, but by itself it's a nice name! Bit odd to obsess over it, but harmless.

Arthursblanket · 07/03/2020 19:42

Lovely name for a dog

switswoo81 · 07/03/2020 19:42

I have a Millie but not in the UK so not common at all.
Don't think I was ever obsessed with a name though.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/03/2020 19:42

Change your name?

Oysterbabe · 07/03/2020 19:44

My dad has a goat called Millie.

NoSauce · 07/03/2020 19:47

Odd.

Bamboo15 · 07/03/2020 19:54

Not a fan to be honest- cute for a little girl but a bit weird for anyone post 20s.

TheWordmeister · 07/03/2020 19:57

Odd to be obsessing over a name. Really peculiar to be obsessing over a name when you're not even pregnant. Are you a teenager?

Millie is SO over-used.

MuseumOfYou · 07/03/2020 20:01

My DD is Millie, but in her mid 20's, so she was the only one in her class, or perhaps school. She's since reverted to Amelia, much more grown up. I still love the name.

Atthebottomofthegarden · 07/03/2020 20:17

I like it. Are you thinking for your future DD or to change your name by deed poll?!

Triggahippy · 07/03/2020 20:20

Don’t get why Millie is short for Amelia-surely it would be meelie? It’s a nice enough name but every second girl seems to be Millie or maisie at the moment

hellcarryingahandbag · 07/03/2020 20:21

@atthebottomofthegarden, I don't know... I am in bad health, and I tend dwell on things. If I was to have a daughter, I would call her Millie.

I don't dislike the name, but it brings to mind Millie's Cookies.

HoffiCoffi13 · 07/03/2020 20:23

It’s a weird thing to be obsessed about... what form does the obsession take? Do you think about it every day?

DinosApple · 07/03/2020 20:31

I like the name OP, but you're spelling it wrong Wink.

I only know two girls with this name (one of which is DD) all the rest are of the dog and cat variety.

I love names that are adaptable, so DD has options to revert to the name on her BC as she gets older. It's not Amelia though.

hellcarryingahandbag · 07/03/2020 20:34

@HoffiCoffi13 I'm not actually obsessed, it's just a figure of speech.
