Answering door in PJs to an expected delivery.

I know IABU but wondered if anyone else feels this irrational guilt.

I had an Asda delivery due this morning. Usually I get up, showered and dressed (even at the weekend) well before 9am. However, this week work kicked my arse a bit so for once I couldn’t be bothered. Asda were due between 9am and 10am and the closer it got the more guilty I felt about opening the door to a planned delivery in my PJs!

In my head I thought of the driver who had probably been up since at least 6am and how slutty (in the old fashioned sense of the word) I’d look.

AIBU to feel guilty?

I dont know that you need to feel guilty but I couldn't do it. I would definitely be up showered and dressed but not necessarily blow dried and made up. Even when I'm off sick I couldn't answer the door in PJs

Sunshine1235 · 07/03/2020 15:48

Yabu I’m sure the Asda delivery person is wandering around the their Pjs at 9am on their day off too. However I do know the feeling of guilt, I am a SAHM and usually we are all up and dressed and doing things by 8 but occasionally we have a much slower morning and so can all be in our PJs still at 10/11 - always feel guilty if someone comes to the door with a delivery 😂

SwedishEdith · 07/03/2020 15:49

Sorry, how is this a dilemma?

PardonWhat · 07/03/2020 15:49

I wouldn’t be able to give less of a shit if I tried

Jakethekid · 07/03/2020 15:51

If I'm at home I'm in my pyjamas /comfy clothes. Why be uncomfortable in your own home??

Lazydaisydaydream · 07/03/2020 15:51

I literally spend all day in my pyjamas sometimes and open the door to anyone... Confused have never even considered what they thought about it Grin I'm in my own house!!

youareatwatadmitit · 07/03/2020 15:51

So did you? Open the door in pjs?

I do. Postie, neighbours, in laws. Doesn't matter, if it's before 10am (and especially if its unannounced!) then it's their problem and not mine. I'm entitled to wear what I wish in my downtime, in my own home.
Don't feel guilty op.

MrsTWH · 07/03/2020 15:52

I bet delivery drivers see all sorts! I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

alittlecloudfloatinginthesky · 07/03/2020 15:55

I work for a delivery company (although not a supermarket). All we care about is that you're not naked!

YABU to feel in any way bad about still being in PJs... plenty of people work shifts that mean they sleep during the day, loads of parents with young babies sleeping any time they can etc. It's not unusual!

EmeraldShamrock · 07/03/2020 15:55

I would dress if expecting a food delivery. I have been caught out before looking like a bag lady with bed hair for a unexpected parcel delivery.

Lynda07 · 07/03/2020 15:56

Nothing wrong with answering the door in your night gear, loads of people do it all the time (I do, frequently), and delivery bods are so used to it they barely notice. They might do it themselves on their days off :-).

gafferareyouthere · 07/03/2020 15:59

I answer deliveries in just my dressing gown and slippers sometimes I don't care and I'm sure they don't either.

happymummy12345 · 07/03/2020 16:02

I don't even own pyjamas as never wear them. At home I wear comfy bottoms and t shirts. I'd answer the door wearing what I wear round the house

Frownette · 07/03/2020 16:02

With all due respect, don't you have better things to worry about...?

You were covered, and they don't care

ParkheadParadise · 07/03/2020 16:02

I answer the door in my Jammies.
I also put a washing out in my Jammies.

PeterPomegranate · 07/03/2020 16:04

We usually get an ocado delivery early Sunday morning (not this Sunday though due to Coronavirus panic meaning no slots available until middle of the week but anyway ...) and I open my door in dressing gown. So I am modestly covered but not dressed. After 9am I’d usually be dressed to open the door but couldn’t guarantee it.

Icandoallthings · 07/03/2020 16:05

It wouldn't bother me. You could have come from a night shift and are getting ready for bed.
Don't think the delivery guys either way tbh.

HaveAtEm · 07/03/2020 16:06

I got dressed today at 11.30...not an ounce of guilt felt here! I work exceptionally long hours and this is my day off 🤷‍♀️. Couldn't give a shiny shit what anyone else thinks about it to be honest!

GreenishPurple · 07/03/2020 16:07

It didn't even occur to me that this was a thing people worried about

lowlandLucky · 07/03/2020 16:09

PhoneTwattery I am sat in my P.Js now and have been since i came back from a beach walk at 12.20. Dont feel bad, it is your home and your downtime, maybe the Asda man has been at home in his P.Js all week because he only works weekends !

BertieBotts · 07/03/2020 16:09

They don't care.

ParkheadParadise · 07/03/2020 16:09

Me too
GreenishPurple

Finallyatooth · 07/03/2020 16:11

I keep an oversized hoodie by the front door because I'm nearly always in slobby clothes and sometimes I don't even have a bra on.

The drivers never react, they don't care.

GA2012 · 07/03/2020 16:11

I get the same anxiety answering the door in my pjs. I’m usually up and dressed by 6.30am
Most days.

The other day oh was off work and took dc to school, I had a day at home so I was doing housework in my pyjamas. Oh had popped out and I was still in my pyjamas when my delivery turned up around noon. So cringe! But I’m sure they’ve seen it all!

WorraLiberty · 07/03/2020 16:12

I've lost count of the amount of these threads there have been over the years.

Seriously, deliverers do. not. give. a. shit.

All they want to do is offload and get to the next job.

If you think there's even the tiniest memory of you in their mind - opening your door in your PJs, you're very much mistaken.
