Answering door in PJs to an expected delivery.

I know IABU but wondered if anyone else feels this irrational guilt.

I had an Asda delivery due this morning. Usually I get up, showered and dressed (even at the weekend) well before 9am. However, this week work kicked my arse a bit so for once I couldn’t be bothered. Asda were due between 9am and 10am and the closer it got the more guilty I felt about opening the door to a planned delivery in my PJs!

In my head I thought of the driver who had probably been up since at least 6am and how slutty (in the old fashioned sense of the word) I’d look.

AIBU to feel guilty?

My Pj's are literally black cotton trousers and a t shirt.

You could always pretend you were a ninja. Grin

PelicanPie · 07/03/2020 18:07

If you're wearing a dressing gown, fair enough. Not in the middle of the day though, unless your'e ill.

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 07/03/2020 18:10

not necessarily blow dried and made up

I love mumsnet Grin

Sypha · 07/03/2020 18:11

I can't imagine they would care what you're wearing. YOu really aren't that important to a delivery person doing their job.

QuestionableMouse · 07/03/2020 18:11

Anyone who caught sight of me would know I'm not a ninja 😂😂😂

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 07/03/2020 18:11

Oh and I usually throw a hoodie on over my PJs if I’m answering the door for modesty’s sake (some of my PJ tops are a bit clingy and I’m probably not wearing a bra) but other than that I couldn’t care less.

Needtochangemymindset · 07/03/2020 18:13

DH has worked as a delivery driver for a big supermarket he wouldn't care if you answered door in pj's but he would notice the following...(I know we talked about it)

If you're rude or dismissive
If your house smells
If your kids seem to be running wild around the house
If you have a dog that goes for delivery drivers and you don't bother to put it away!

If you're elderly or disabled and seem vulnerable (he would always allow extra time and offer to help put food in their cupboards)
If you seem seem lonely and want to chat (again he would always allow extra time and have a chat)

katy1213 · 07/03/2020 18:14

Don't you own a dressing gown? Have you not mastered the art of opening the door a crack and saying, 'Leave it on the step.'
I wouldn't throw open the door if I wasn't dressed - but I wouldn't miss a delivery either.

Intelinside57 · 07/03/2020 18:14

I work from home. Meaning I regularly go to my desk in pj's and definitely answer the door in them. As for blow dried and made up... that only happens when I'm going "out" Grin

erniepigy · 07/03/2020 18:15

It’s 6.15 pm and I’m in my pjs, who cares.
If your modesty is covered and it’s not a see through, low cut number then I doubt the driver is thinking anything other than getting his round done and getting off home

DieSchottin93 · 07/03/2020 18:20

I'm often in my dressing gown at lunchtime. If I've finished work late the night before I have a lie in, go for a shower then stay in my dressing gown til I get dressed for work again in the afternoon because I don't see the point in getting changed into my house clothes if I'm only going to wear them for a couple of hours at most. No postie or delivery person has looked shocked so far, although I do only open the door as little as possible to try and hide the fact I'm still in my dressing gown 😂😂

Wehttam · 07/03/2020 18:21

I’d think you were rough if you were going to Asda in your pjs, but a home delivery is acceptable.

peajotter · 07/03/2020 18:27

I watched an elderly family member struggle to dress, do makeup and blow dry her hair every day before carers or visitors came.

I decided to lower my standards while I’m still flexible enough to change.

anothernewyear · 07/03/2020 18:36

I'm surprised anyone cares about this. I often put my dressing gown on over my clothes when I'm at home. Sometimes on the weekend I'll have my jammas on all day. Who cares? It's my home. Anyone who knocks is coming to me not the other way around. I dont give a rats arse who knocks. I don't go to the shop in them. I couldn't give enough of a fuck if I tried.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/03/2020 18:55

We had an Asda delivery last night. I was in my “lounge wear” at 8pm. The delivery woman couldn’t have been less interested, but was obviously a bit alarmed by the cat yowling from the living room where we’d shut her in in case she scooted out of the front door.

Embracelife · 07/03/2020 18:58

See through negligee somewhat risque.
But still your choice.
No one cares.

TerrorWig · 07/03/2020 19:00

I simply do not understand.

Guilt? Why on earth would you feel guilty for being in pyjamas in your own home? Especially early in the morning!

I WFH fairly regularly and rarely get dressed. No I don’t feel the slightest bit guilty or any other emotion about it.

TheWordmeister · 07/03/2020 19:01

I couldn't give a shit.

I often answer the door to deliveries, from Ocado and Amazon in my dressing gown.

crazydiamond222 · 07/03/2020 19:27

Not a problem. It is no where near as bad as when on a particularly hectic day with a newborn I realised after I had answered the door for a drlivery I hadn't fully put my boob away after breastfeeding. The poor driver did not say a thing but made a very swift exit!

littlemeitslyn · 07/03/2020 21:24

I have been in pjs all day 🤪

TopEndChops · 07/03/2020 21:30

I'm a postie. Seriously couldn't give a shit what you open the door wearing, as long as you open the door Smile

notquiteruralbliss · 07/03/2020 21:30

If I am not working I could still be in PJs at lunch time. Standard dog walking gear on a day off is PJs, a jumper, a padded gilet and wellies.

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 07/03/2020 21:32

Some people answer their doors naked, I wouldn’t worry if I was you! 😀

mumto2teenagers · 07/03/2020 21:35

I get up quite early but often keep my PJ’s on until mid morning at the weekend, wouldn’t get dressed just because I was expecting a delivery

CSIblonde · 07/03/2020 21:46

Why would a delivery person give a toss what people are wearing, unless of course you're in full fetish gear or bits are hanging out!? . Its a 20second handover the item then they're off. You're overthinking.
