Answering door in PJs to an expected delivery.

I know IABU but wondered if anyone else feels this irrational guilt.

I had an Asda delivery due this morning. Usually I get up, showered and dressed (even at the weekend) well before 9am. However, this week work kicked my arse a bit so for once I couldn’t be bothered. Asda were due between 9am and 10am and the closer it got the more guilty I felt about opening the door to a planned delivery in my PJs!

In my head I thought of the driver who had probably been up since at least 6am and how slutty (in the old fashioned sense of the word) I’d look.

AIBU to feel guilty?

My Pj's are literally black cotton trousers and a t shirt. I honestly do not get the hysteria over wearing Pj's in your own house. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

butterpuffed · 07/03/2020 17:10

Rather self important to think the delivery driver would notice or care.

riotlady · 07/03/2020 17:17

If I’m at home, I’m usually in pjs. Don’t see the problem.

PatchworkMonkey · 07/03/2020 17:18

I don't like doing it, I feel scruffy and embarrassed and a bit vulnerable (I know that's silly). My postie usually opens the outside door and leaves the parcel in the porch so all good Grin

motherheroic · 07/03/2020 17:20

I'm not dressing up for a 5 minute delivery.

Starbuck8419 · 07/03/2020 17:23

If I’m at home during the week, it’s later in the day and I’m clearly doing nothing all day then I feel a bit worried I’m going to be judged as a “bum” but then I remember I’m in my house, I’m a grown up and I can do what I want lol

DeeCeeCherry · 07/03/2020 17:23

Who cares?

Unless you're planning to be at the door for ages chatting to the driver - Which I presume you aren't.

You're in your house - PJs or house clothes perfectly OK, you're not standing there in bra & knickers or revealing clothes are you? He's a stranger & will have forgotten about you the instant he jumps back in his van and on to next delivery.

Focusing on looking good for the delivery man shouldn't be that important anyway

userabcname · 07/03/2020 17:24

In my early 20s I once had an early delivery that I answered in my pjs (one of DH's t shirts and pj trousers). The bloke doing the delivery mentioned a couple of times "oh got you out of bed did I?" and "you can go back to bed when I've gone!" Now in my 30s with a baby and toddler in tow, not one person has even vaguely hinted towards the slobby pjs I usually answer the door in. I wouldn't worry.

Fairylea · 07/03/2020 17:26

I don’t like doing it mainly because my mum drummed it into me that it was a terrible thing to do but I really don’t think anyone gives a shit about it anymore, especially as most pjs are usually just lounge type trousers and a t shirt.

I have a child who goes to complex needs school and his taxi and escort turns up at 7.45am every day to take him and when he first started I used to run round like a lunatic getting myself up and dressed as well as getting him ready as I didn’t want the taxi people to see me in my pjs.. 3 years on I just bung a big fleece jumper over the top of my pjs and answer the door like that..! No one cares. When they bring him back at 4pm they see me all dressed and washed and smart Grin

Slith · 07/03/2020 17:34

I answer the door to delivery drivers in just my boxers. What's the problem?

MimiLaRue · 07/03/2020 17:36

Of all the fucks in the entire world, I couldn't find a single one to give about a delivery driver seeing me in my PJs!
Relax!

SnoozyLou · 07/03/2020 17:37

YABU if you go down to Asda and do your shopping like that (and people do).

I think you're ok OP.

AJPTaylor · 07/03/2020 17:45

As our postie says to me on a Saturday
"I don't care what anyone wears, just as long as they open the door"
Tbf I am the one opening my front door to take a parcel for my next door neighbour who won't get up to answer the door!

Sonichu · 07/03/2020 17:45

Jesus Christ. Do people actually think about this stuff outside of MN?

DonkeyKong2019 · 07/03/2020 17:45

I imagine the delivery driver is just glad you have clothes on

Electrical · 07/03/2020 17:46

How is this a thread? How could you muster enough fucks to give to sit and type out the OP on this non-issue? 😄 have you ever worked with general public, op? Staff do not notice anything about customers and could not possibly care any less. A customer could have their face made entirely of teeth and have 40 fingers and we’d still just be like ‘ok, thanks, bye!’

viccat · 07/03/2020 17:47

Guilt sounds a bit much tbh.

If I'm expecting a delivery and don't want to get completely dressed but don't want to open the door in my PJs, I would just change into black leggings and throw on a big cardigan or something. But of course I've opened the door to unexpected deliveries in my PJs lots and lots of times. I'm sure they don't really care one bit though!

LouiseCollina · 07/03/2020 17:49

I wouldn’t be able to give less of a shit if I tried

Lol, same here. God, it's amazing the things people worry about!

Nomel · 07/03/2020 17:49

Stealth boast

tillytoodles1 · 07/03/2020 17:50

I've been in my PJ's all day, had a shower and put clean one's on. I wasn't expecting anyone though.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 07/03/2020 17:50

If I’m not going out I often stay in my pj’s until about lunchtime (chronic illness here, and it’s a lot easier on my energy levels). I answer the door to the postman / Amazon guy / Tesco shop / various repairmen without feeling an ounce of guilt. I’m covered up, and that’s all I’m bothered about (I usually sleep in soft pyjama bottoms, and an old T-shirt and throw a cardie on if the house is chilly in the morning).

Bookoffacts · 07/03/2020 17:51

I haven't seen that use of the word slutty since my mum in the 1970s used it to describe the mess on my bedroom floor!
Nice memory actually now, to think it was usual to use it for slatternly. I was always angry about her use of it but you've cured me x

joffreyscoffees · 07/03/2020 17:52

My postman sees me in pyjamas every Monday and Friday as I work from home and he comes before I take a break to get washed and dressed. Couldn't give a damn really.

AhoyMrBeaver · 07/03/2020 18:02

I'm more covered in my pyjamas and dressing gown than I am in my day clothes. Nobody would be scandalised by me opening the door in neck to ankles loose cotton. I've noticed that when I have had early deliveries and I am still in night clothes, the drivers seem to be a bit slower/gentler with the handing stuff over and speak in whispers which is quite nice.

AGoodPodcastAndANiceCupOfTea · 07/03/2020 18:06

When I read your response I genuinely thought for a couple of seconds that your delivery man turns up and blasts you with really bad swear words GrinGrinGrin
