Particularly weekends.

Me and DH are trying to cut down on drinking - as every weekend once kids are in bed we're reaching for a bottle or two of wine. I'm really trying to be a bit healthier to feel better physically and mentally and want to cut this down to maybe just one weekend a month - or ideally, not at all!

But what do we do ?? We really enjoy sitting listening to music , having a few drinks and chatting. It's our way to unwind. We spend the weekdays sat watching Netflix or catching up on work so need something different to do.

What do you guys do ? ( that doesn't involve drinking )

We usually just watch TV. Sometimes board games, jigsaws. If we want to do something separately but together we read on the sofa or in bed. Sometimes play computer games.

Pinkarsedfly · 07/03/2020 08:47

Practise guitar
Watch telly
Walk dogs

Study for my Masters
Long leisurely bath

Some of these on my own, some with DH.

RhymingRabbit3 · 07/03/2020 08:52

In the week you could each join a class one night a week - a sport, hobby, volunteering, craft.

BeyondMyWits · 07/03/2020 08:53

We read a book/newspaper, watch some telly, play computer/phone games, sit and chat, snuggle on the sofa - no drink involved, other than a cuppa.

Franticbutterfly · 07/03/2020 08:54

Get the youngest 2 to bed and watch a film with DH and DD1, or something of Netflix or Amazon prime.

ChocolateQuiltedShitPig · 07/03/2020 08:54

Life is difficult enough, do what makes you happy

LittleCandle · 07/03/2020 08:56

Sit on my arse and watch TV while cross stitching or playing silly games on my iPad. I'm usually too tired to do much else.

ThePolishWombat · 07/03/2020 08:57

While I was pregnant with my youngest, I did a lot of knitting Grin

Now she’s here, I’m back to slobbing in front of the telly with my boobs out Blush

MingVase · 07/03/2020 08:58

You mean, while staying at home.? Reading, playing piano, cooking, talking to friends on phone, having friends over to eat. But we also take it in turns to go out, if a babysitter is unavailable — we both go running, DH plays football, we see friends, go to films or plays, eat out, I have a book club, I used to fence.

WelcomeToShootingStars · 07/03/2020 08:58

Usually watch a film. Sometimes listen to music, play a game or whatever which can be with a drink or without, we aren't really bothered.

inwood · 07/03/2020 08:59

@LangSpartacusCleg what do you have to do as personal admin? Genuinely curious because I do fuck all of it never mind a fuck ton! There's probably loads of it I should be doing...

Funkyslippers · 07/03/2020 09:14

We tend to watch TV. Our kids our older so they tend to watch it too - family TV shows. Or we'll play a game. I've cut down on alcohol and have low alcohol alternatives - Tesco do a really nice low alcohol G&T in a can. You could do what you normally do, just with not as much booze?!

Funkyslippers · 07/03/2020 09:14

PS once you get into the habit of not drinking as much, you won't miss it :)

UnderTheCherryTree · 07/03/2020 09:17

Watch TV/ Netflix
Read
Online Shopping
Gym / Yoga class / Running
Masturbate
Batch cook
Play the violin
Painting

lowlandLucky · 07/03/2020 09:19

Swap the wine for tea, easy and you will feel 100x better

Ninkanink · 07/03/2020 09:30

Try different teas. Have a variety of tonics without the alcohol - ice and a slice as usual. We have a hot chocolate with amaretto 4 or 5 times a week. Yes there’s a little bit of alcohol but not much and it’s a cosy, comforting drink.

CampfireZen · 07/03/2020 09:39

I often work on my writing.

(Am not a published author, just somebody who really enjoys it as a creative hobby.
Try it: you'll be surprised at what your imagination comes out with!

Doesn't matter a jot if the end result manifests itself in journal-type entries to offload and vent/ short stories/ poetry/ character sketches/ the beginnings of an entire novel, or 101 other written forms...whether you choose to share it, or find it's intensely personal and never show another soul, you're doing it for YOU).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/03/2020 09:43

I just watch telly or read. I'm single though so I'm on my own after DS is in bed. Sometimes I lose myself in internet forums. I do drink, sorry! Although I don't drink wine, only spirits and I only have 2 or 3 singles. And I don't drink in the week.

fiddledefiddle · 07/03/2020 09:44

Draw, housework, watch tv, ask Alexa stupid questions for the hell of it.
Laundry, cooking, read books.
Neither of us drink during term time, we wait for the school holidays.

CampfireZen · 07/03/2020 09:47

@ThePolishWombat,

...I’m back to slobbing in front of the telly with my boobs out Blush

Ha! I read through the posts too quickly, missed your first part, and got the impression you were a practising weekend nudist Grin

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 07/03/2020 09:50

Exercise, go to the gym or run or play team sport. Sort out mountains of washing/general housework. Batch cook. Sort out cupboards or drawers that are full of crap. Maybe sit and watch tv show for half hour or so. Would love to have more time for puzzles, craft, reading, leisurely bath (will do all this when kids older!).

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/03/2020 09:53

Collapse in front of Netflix. Weekends... walk dog/ occasional night out, escape to read book while DH watches football (cricket/gold/snooker/tennis).
