Particularly weekends.

Me and DH are trying to cut down on drinking - as every weekend once kids are in bed we're reaching for a bottle or two of wine. I'm really trying to be a bit healthier to feel better physically and mentally and want to cut this down to maybe just one weekend a month - or ideally, not at all!

But what do we do ?? We really enjoy sitting listening to music , having a few drinks and chatting. It's our way to unwind. We spend the weekdays sat watching Netflix or catching up on work so need something different to do.

What do you guys do ? ( that doesn't involve drinking )

Very boring in the Titanic house:
Cook + eat dinner
Clear up
Homework
Telly
Tea
Biscuits
Bed

Nothing exciting. Mainly tv. Catch up with friends family via social media. Housework. Personal grooming dyeing hair etc. Sleep. I don't drink I eat too much so not helpful I suppose

puds11 · 07/03/2020 09:57

Put baby to bed, then Netflix, board game, reading etc. Generally we have been to the gym in the day but once the weather gets nicer I’ll probably go on an evening to use the outdoor pool.

Prior to baby we ate out a lot and drank a lot. Have to say not drinking is much better!

kevintheorangecarrot · 07/03/2020 09:57

Crochet or watch YouTube videos on my phone. Sometimes I will watch a movie on TV but depends on what mood I'm in.

kevintheorangecarrot · 07/03/2020 09:58

@LangSpartacusCleg I'm having the same issue on my SmartTV! Amazon Prime just crashes on the screen and nothing happens.

ineedanotherholiday · 07/03/2020 10:03

Tend to eat out maybe once a week and I go to a hobby one evening a week. Other than that we have dinner, usually both have long baths, then spend some time each on our phones/ laptop and then watch something together. We don't tend to do a lot in the evenings as such, usually on a weekend we will have a film night.

zhivagodr · 07/03/2020 10:08

I feel I never have time for actual tasks in the evening. Finish work around 6, home by 6.30, then off to the gym most nights, then home, walk dog, dinner, tv, bed!

Ginfordinner · 07/03/2020 10:09

We generally do what you do, but drink tea in the evenings, not wine. We do enjoy wine but I am worried about drinking too much so usually stick to tea on weekdays.

Snuffkindle · 07/03/2020 10:13

I work three evenings a week. The other four we watch telly and two of them we drink wine. I'm tired and lazy and in a rut and don't help myself. Quite often we will have stuff on though, and could be out two of the four nights....

PhilCornwall1 · 07/03/2020 10:17

Week days are fairly busy. Tuesday and Thursday evenings I'm out, Tuesday and Wednesday my wife is out. We are also a taxi to the youngest (13) on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Saturday we'll have a couple of glasses of wine or something and watch TV (very often me falling asleep in the chair), Sunday's watch a bit of TV and an early night.

The eldest doesn't want us, he's 18 and does his own thing.

ThePolishWombat · 07/03/2020 13:08

@CampfireZen might as well be Grin
It would appear that DC3 has decided the hours of 7pm-11pm is Happy Hour at the Booby Bar, so there’s not much point in putting them away!

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 07/03/2020 13:45

I sit in front of the TV, go on MN, facebook, insta, Twitter egg and eat kinder Buenos whites and drink Pepsi max. Every night. I don't drink alcohol. I'm a single parent.

underneaththeash · 07/03/2020 14:38

This week Monday - watched TV
Tuesday - went to after school event
Wednesday - Book club
Thursday - DH and I played Cribbage.
Friday - Watched message in a bottle (which was amazing!)
Tonight we're going to DD's play.
Sunday - we have roast about 7pm and then all watch a family show together.
We usually don't drink Monday-Thursday (unless going to friends for dinner)

aLilNonnyMouse · 07/03/2020 15:05

Listen to music
Crochet while watching netflix
Play video games
Chat online or browse mumsnet or reddit
Go out for a meal
Cook a fancy dinner and watch a film while eating
Read a book while cuddled up together
Once a week we go swimming in the evening

GameSetMatch · 07/03/2020 15:24

Quick bath
Watch Tv
Do laundry
Empty dishwasher
Put children back to bed about 20 times
During a weekday I make packed lunches up
Sleep

We are very rock and roll 😁

ElderAve · 07/03/2020 15:25

I run or do gym classes. DH is out volunteering twice a week and "doing something" on his computer the other nights

arethereanyleftatall · 07/03/2020 15:35

Take turns going out to do sport or meet friends.

juliej00ls · 07/03/2020 15:41

Warmer421water · 07/03/2020 17:38
  • evening meal
MimiLaRue · 07/03/2020 17:40

You can still do all those things you listed OP without an alcoholic drink! surely you dont need wine to chat, watch netflix?

Alternatively, you could go for a run, read, play games, give each other massages, shag, candlelit meal, go out to cinema, theatre, yoga, etc etc

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 07/03/2020 17:41

Sod all. Usually go to bed with a good book after the kids are down.

I do like to live on the edge.

MimiLaRue · 07/03/2020 17:42

Actually, one thing I will say- since giving up drinking, my skin looks positively glowing, ive lost half a stone without even trying and my face/neck/jaw area has really tightened up. I wasnt drinking loads (few glasses of wine a week) but its made me realise how puffy alcohol makes your face look.

Joans3rddaughter · 07/03/2020 17:44

Bought some 2kg weights now need to buy a weights DVD. Aquafit or Zumba Gold once week.
Sewing
Knitting
Gardening in the lighter evenings
