to think this food isn't unhealthy?!

I'm doing intermittent fasting and trying to watch what I eat, and I don't know whether it's because when you're on a diet you notice these things more, but I've been seeing people in groups I'm in refer to meals like a jacket potato with beans and a salad, or shepherd's pie, or a stew as 'indulgent comfort food' lately.

AIBU to think there's nothing particularly indulgent or unhealthy about a jacket potato?

The people saying that are probably calorie counting to a maximum of 1200 and are low carbing.

I started off my diet on a shake plan. It was designed for quick weight loss for surgery or to turn around diabetes.

You have the shakes and a 200 calorie meal, with no more than 10g of carbs, in the form of veg, most people don't stick to the carb count if they want more veg.

As you lose weight, you use less products and more food. Most people maintain using the products on a 5:2. The advantage is the nutritional side of the products and the ease. The aim is to get into an exercise plan once able and to have extra calories to eat back, so it is sustainable. If you over indulge, then of course the weight comes back.

People often have a Sunday afternoon off and Shepherds pie/jacket potato/roast dinner would be indulgence foods.

DesLynamsMoustache this

all food can be healthy.
those on diets will be on a new diet when they come off when and fail.because that is why diets were started.to get money and work just enough to lose the weight then when you eat normally you revert back.its a big business they need to make sure you keep coming back.
the healthiest people are those that eat every single food in balance.those that dont deprive themselves and allow there likes and sislikes just dont think on it and therefore are able to lsiten to their bodies for hunger cues.
and lots of dieting if your lookung online now is simply disordered and shaming and wrong.

we arent helping our kids.we arent helping people to eat and cook healthily.
you can have potatoes, choc, sweets, fruit and every food group without being fat.

Comfort food isn't about being indulgent, it's about the feels you get from eating it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/03/2020 13:50

Personally I wouldn't bother with a baked potato that wasn't laden with deliciousness.

Hear, hear Quack!

The whole point of the humble baked potato is that it acts as a vehicle for half a pound of Lurpak and a pound of grated extra-mature cheddar, or similar delights.

Those armchair experts dissing Keto obviously haven’t the first clue about it. I feel bloody fantastic on it, I eat Keto King bread which means I dont miss out an anything...oh yeah apart from sugar, which really is damaging.

Do your research then present your argument. Until then STFU.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/03/2020 14:03

What is Keto King bread AnnBryce?

LimpidPools · 06/03/2020 14:06

Wow, rude much, @1AnnBryce1?

Keto is a fad. If it works for you then great, but what people are saying isn't wrong, so STFU yourself.

Isthistrueor · 06/03/2020 14:07

It’s because people low-carb. There’s nothing wrong with carbs at all and they’re actually vital for energy.

DropYourSword · 06/03/2020 14:08

I’ll diss keto all I want thanks!

1AnnBryce1 · 06/03/2020 14:08

@limpidpools - Why should I listen to a nobody on a forum who thinks they know it all but knows nothing?

Who are you?

GiraffeandPellyandme · 06/03/2020 14:08

Potatoes are not fattening. A 150g portion of potato (and that's a generous portion) is 110kcal (according to google).

People have an irrational fear of carbs. If you eat high protein low carb your body has to use the excess protein for energy. Deanimation of the protein (amino acids) removes the nitrogen (which is excreted), leaving the carbon skeleton (basically a carbohydrate) to be used for energy. For this reason excess proteins in the diet can put a strain on the liver.

It is much better to eat a balance of protein and carbohydrates rather than rely on proteins for energy.

See?! Low carbing makes you cranky Grin

1AnnBryce1 · 06/03/2020 14:11

@shadenfreudepersonified - There’s a YouTube video on the ingredients and method, it really is a game changer, give it a go if you LCHF, it’s ace!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/03/2020 14:12

Thanks Ann - I'll have a look at that.
