To not do party bags?

SkaLaLand · 05/03/2020 20:44

And just hand out cake wrapped in napkins? Party Saturday and totally forgot about sodding party bags. They are a waste of time and money anyway. Would you panic buy something or not?

Nobody actually eats the cake. It lies in the party bag going mouldy.

LellyMcKelly · 05/03/2020 22:57

£1 bag of Haribos each. They will love you forever.

strawberrylipgloss · 05/03/2020 22:58

My ds has a March birthday and I always used to get an Easter Egg for each person invited.

Frenchw1fe · 05/03/2020 23:00

Do a bran tub and let them dip for a gift each starting with the youngest. Kids love it.

whoknows1230 · 05/03/2020 23:01

The medium water eggs that other posters have mentioned are only 75p in Tesco at the moment. No plastic tat and no faffing about filling the bags.

Pretty much every child I know would be happy to receive an Easter egg.

squaresandsquares · 05/03/2020 23:01

I'm getting a load of Easter eggs currently 75p at Tesco. One year I did sunflower seeds and a pot

Butterfly02 · 05/03/2020 23:03

My ds works at a place that do partys he's saying less and less people are doing traditional party bags.
He had the first one handing out Easter eggs last weekend.
In the past I've done books, easter eggs (March birthday), lip balms and compacts, small bags of sweets never had a child ask where the party bag was. If anyone asks say its not very environmentally friendly.

MrsToothyBitch · 05/03/2020 23:14

I'd do sweet cones/bags with some stickers chucked in or something. Bulk buy some multi packs in Poundland, get a 50-pack of cello-bags somewhere like Lakeland, stickers or something at The Works, make up bags, tie it with ribbon or pretty string.

@Itwasntme1 talk to me about your party. DD will be 3 soon & I need some ideas for the party bags!!

Itwasntme1 · 05/03/2020 23:37

Party was a traditional bouncy castle in community hall, cupcake decorating stall.

Party babes were these. Mainly seven year old girls, see the kids using the bags all The time.

Had a here year old at the party. He got a Milky Way, crisps and some cheap Tesco cars in his.

Itwasntme1 · 05/03/2020 23:39

Three year old that should be. He little box of cars was 50p.

SageRosemary · 05/03/2020 23:53

I used to print stickers and attach them to a tube of Smarties/Pastilles or similar, with a "Thank You for coming to my party and making my Birthday so special, from Rosie"

I hate party bags with a passion

CheshireChat · 06/03/2020 01:05

JingsMahBucket another baffled foreigner here- I mean you show off the yummy cake in front of some poor kids and then snatch it away, how does that make sense.

This, alongside separate hot/ cold taps and door handles which you have to lift so you can lock the door are the most nonsensical things in the British culture Wink Grin.

Canuckduck · 06/03/2020 02:13

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. For the 10 years of doing two parties per year no child has ever died, been gutted or refused to leave my home. I tended not to if it was an activity party and more often did for an at home party. We always serve the cake at the party, I don’t like the thought of the cake in the napkin.

I’ve done larger boxes of candy, mini LEGO kits and beanie babies as alternatives.

The older I get the less I find I can be bothered getting all worked up about things like this.

Mammyloveswine · 06/03/2020 05:39

Some entitled people on this thread!

I made cupcakes and gave out a bag of haribo for DS party this year!

EmrysAtticus · 06/03/2020 06:16

Most of the parties we have been to recently have done a book (Works £10 for £10) and a slice of cake. Kids all very happy.

Frannibananni · 06/03/2020 06:17

Bubble wand with a thank you note attached with ribbon was my go to for small kids. Cheap and sugar free. Handballs were a hit as well.

FlowerAndBloom · 06/03/2020 06:21

Oh ForraM, I’m no Greta, sweet cones still in thin plastic cone with a ribbon on the top (you probably knew that if you’d seen any?!) but significantly less plastic than a plastic party bag full of plastic is what I meant

SinkGirl · 06/03/2020 06:24

I almost didn’t for my 3 YO twins birthday party, thinking hey these kids are small, they probably won’t care (mine can’t talk so I forget what other kids are like at that age).

From about half an hour in, one kept asking me when he could have his party bag. Was very glad I relented.

Although I made something for mine (giant bubble wands and a home made bubble mix, plus Hey Duggee cookies) and I’m not sure he was thrilled when he looked in it 😂 Apparently he had fun with it later though.

Lifesabeach86 · 06/03/2020 06:25

Have you got the Range near you? We put in our party bags
packet of seeds
colouring pencils
small pad
packet of Haribo

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 06/03/2020 07:27

I’d go shopping. Children love party bags or something to take away. Plenty of fun things without plastic tat can be put in them. Or do a book gift, jigsaw, puzzle book etc instead.

Itwasntme1 · 06/03/2020 07:46

@Mammyloveswine oh dear, are we now using entitled in regards to tiny kids liking party bags😂😂.

Gre8scott · 06/03/2020 07:59

Bubble tubes £1 from pound shops best party bag ever

Gre8scott · 06/03/2020 08:02

Last year we did a greatest showman patty and bought a load of circus skills stuff for them to play with cost about £40 and then I gave everyone one of them to take home
I thought that was genius
