To not do party bags?

And just hand out cake wrapped in napkins? Party Saturday and totally forgot about sodding party bags. They are a waste of time and money anyway. Would you panic buy something or not?

My son's birthday party is this weekend too. I'm giving out sticker books (10 for £10 from the book people) and a little paper bag of sweeties. Hopefully kids and parents will be happy with that.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/03/2020 21:26

I did individual grow your own sunflower kits for DD’s 7th birthday (and cake).

GetRid · 05/03/2020 21:29

Bag of sweets each will suffice!

Yetanothernameneeded · 05/03/2020 21:30

Sorry! I don’t know how to do ‘tidy’ links 🤦🏻‍♀️

Itwasntme1 · 05/03/2020 21:31

@ScarlettBlaize 🤣👏

I remember the look of horror when I suggested books.

My last part pay bags were

Draw string smiley face bags filled with bubbles, Punch balloon, lol lip balm, space raider crisps, Freddo, smiley face bag charm and Moam pinballs.

Went down a treat.seven year olds girls. Cost about £3.50 each all in.

feeona123 · 05/03/2020 21:32

Nip to Poundland- great selection of party bags and sweets

Snowy111 · 05/03/2020 21:32

Bags of plastic tat that will end up in landfill? Don’t bother!

DontBe · 05/03/2020 21:32

Go to the Works buy some books because they’re cheap, and give those with a packet of Haribo and the cake.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 05/03/2020 21:33

Depending on there age, however B&M do lucky bags for 39p, and in then they have strikers, a toy, a sweet and a few other meaningless tat.

They do them all sort of characters.

TheTrollFairy · 05/03/2020 21:35

I just went to a party recently (well, DD did) and the bags weren’t full of shit.
Stripy paper bags (I think some might have been spotty) with a alphabet activity sheet, seeds for planting and a milky way bar

eaglejulesk · 05/03/2020 21:36

I’d buy party bags. They are expected

Such entitlement - haven't the kids just been to a party, where presumably they are fed and entertained??? I would be handing out the cake, and if kids weren't happy so be it - they will have to learn that you don't always get what you want!

UberEattamere · 05/03/2020 21:39

I normally buy 1 pound books and let the children choose at the end of the party with a bag of haribo or lollipops

Starlight456 · 05/03/2020 21:40

I didn’t always do party bags, did balls from Poundland, books, science mini sets.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 05/03/2020 21:42

If they're 6 or under how about these colour in tote bags, £1 each from The Works, free click n collect in store.

Not sure if this still works but 30% off code MVC30 so only 70p each.

Put the cake in the bag and ta da, party bags.

EdinaMonsoon · 05/03/2020 21:42

Please don’t bow to the pressure of buying plastic tat & bags which will only end up in landfill. A piece of cake & some sweets is more than enough.

midnightstar66 · 05/03/2020 21:42

Oh all kids love party bags, I'd have to provide something.. however DD's birthday is beginning of December and I buy cheap selection boxes or advent calendars in its place. Dd2 is not long before Easter so buy cheap Easter eggs on offer or small Easter baskets from £ shop with some chicks and mini eggs inside. Less plastic tat and a novelty

Itwasntme1 · 05/03/2020 21:43

I never really understand the book thing. Surely most kids have hundreds of books at home, and a few are bound to already have the book you gove them. And all the kids will be at different reading stages.

Is it not a bit virtue signalling?

My nephew got a book at a party, it was about two years to young for him, and it went in the charity pile. He would have much preferred a chocolate bar and bouncy ball!

midnightstar66 · 05/03/2020 21:44

Oh and I've done books too, horrid Henry, horrible history or rainbow fairy series - available in £ shop

Cherrysherbet · 05/03/2020 21:47

Just give out a couple of sweets. Avoid the plastic tat.Bad for the environment and they don’t play with it anyway. I would feel bad if I didn’t give out something other than cake.

JustBecauseItWorkedForYou · 05/03/2020 21:50

I did £1 coloring or sticker books and a pack of Pencils and ribboned it together with a thank you for coming label when ds was little.

MoaningMinniee · 05/03/2020 21:51

DDs birthdays are in January. We did Plant Your Own Hyacinth Bowls last time round. I know from feedback in the playground/school run that several of these got regifted for Mother's Day. Win win win.

Rocketinapocket · 05/03/2020 21:52

Buy some big lollipops. Hand those out.

KarmaStar · 05/03/2020 21:52

Yes do some else your dc might get teased at school?
