To think Priti Patel probably wishes she hadn’t been so quick to claim racism doesn’t exist?

....because now she can’t state it’s a factor in the attacks against her.

I have less than zero time for PP. I think her views are odious from claiming British workers are lazy in her capitalism on steroids book ‘Brittania Unchained’ to her comments on the Irish.

However, I also believe if she were white, the old guard of the civil service would have done some more hand holding, helped her find her feet, given her more of a chance. There have been many white male and female ministers who are horrible but they have not been quickly and publicly destroyed in the way PP has been. In addition the guy who resigned is no angel, having presided over the implementation of the Windrush scandal and was more than happy to assist in creating a nasty attitude towards immigrants under May.

Nevertheless, because she’s been very keen to pretend racism doesn’t exist in regards to others facing it including Meghan Markle in an attempt to ingratiate herself with the right of her party and DM readers, now she is a victim herself she can’t complain or expect anyone to come to her defence.

I’ve seen this at work in relation to sexism where a female employee who’s keen to rise through the ranks will turn a blind eye to all kinds of sexism in order to keep on the right side of senior men but when faced with it herself finds herself with no allies.

Am I wrong in my assessment?

To br clear, my 'yup' was in response to your last line.

Neolara · 29/02/2020 17:54

Spotted zebra - what sort of things did she do to make you think that?

Tellmetruth4 · 29/02/2020 18:15

Trust me I think she’s a complete arsehole but that doesn’t mean that sexism and racism isn’t involved here.

I think she’s the type of person who would be more than happy to claim that neither exist in order to feel they are onside with the powerful and wonder why nobody is coming to their defence when some still treat them like any other woman/BAME. I know someone like her IRL. Sold every other woman out to climb the ladder then when she made the mistake of getting pregnant and was treated like shit, wondered why all of her natural defenders were missing. She tried to explain the mistreatment away at first because she was special and better than the other woman so it couldn’t have been sexism...

She’s Gujarati like me and the experiences of Gujarati (and Punjabi) women when it comes to racism does depend on looks / skin tone. She is light skinned enough to pass for European so she might not have experienced racism - my mum and sister are very light skinned and have never experienced overt racism as racists just assumed they were Irish or European until they told them their names. My Dad, brothers and I However were very much discriminated against in every way possible.

Merryoldgoat · 29/02/2020 18:49

YABU

A relative worked for her a while ago - she’s all of the things described. She’s utterly incompetent and a vile person (plus stupid).

LizzieSiddal · 29/02/2020 18:53

You may be right, however doesn’t she has form for lying previously and being sacked by TM?
Apparently the chap who has resigned today has “proof” of over 50 press briefings against him in the last two days. So something is going on in that office which isn’t very professional.

However it could well be other people briefing against him and not PP. I suppose it will come out in the court case.

LizzieSiddal · 29/02/2020 18:55

I was astounded that she was put in the cabinet by Johnson. Mind you, you can understand why Johnson likes her, having been sacked himself twice for lying to his bosses.

cardibach · 29/02/2020 18:58

In her case, it’s not racism it’s that she’s a vile bully who has betrayed the country and lied to her party once already.

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 19:23

She’s doing her Job... and thank goodness she is... 🌺

Jason118 · 29/02/2020 19:29

Just because you are an elected minister (of whatever persuasion) it doesn't mean that normal employment practices can be ignored. It's also a piss poor management style and will not produce the required results. We, and Trumplings, will look back on this period of history and say, WTF were we thinking?

Merryoldgoat · 29/02/2020 19:31

@BumbleBeee69

Are you serious?

RitaHayworthHair · 29/02/2020 19:34

She's a nasty piece of work. From reliable source.

Forallyouknow · 29/02/2020 19:39

She has that job so she can implement racist policies and no one can call her out the way they would if she were a white man- she is awful and knows that’s exactly why she has the job so has tried to be as right wing white male friendly as she can to keep doing a job she is ill equipped to do.

kilburnfrenchie · 29/02/2020 19:44

Err the old guard of the civil service have taken the unprecedented step of resigning, leaving a generous amount of hush money on the table to take her to court for constructive dismissal on grounds of bullying. Given her track record it seems a very plausible claim.

Seems to me she would have been impossible to help and the source of her problems is 99.9% her. Maybe racism and sexism combined gets you to 100%.

Even Boris has had to agree to get married to try and bury this. Lucky Carrie. .

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 21:39

Yes I am being serious... my opinion differs from yours but it makes my opinion no less valid..

She is doing her job... as she should ....

Shouting and swearing at people.Hmm

Devlesko · 29/02/2020 22:01

She's the racist one, this is classicGrin

Iggly · 29/02/2020 22:02

I’m not convinced it is racism to be honest.

The criticism levelled against her is pretty valid.

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:02

She's a breath of fresh air...

Iggly · 29/02/2020 22:03

Anyone who thinks she is a breath of fresh air needs to give their head a wobble.

Bullies are ultimately cowards, who act on fear.

A bully is a bully.

Racism or sexism are not part of this equation and it is demeaning to those she bullied to suggest otherwise.

Coolcucumber2020 · 29/02/2020 22:08

@BumbleBeee69 rattling cages is also an extremely offensive and minimizing term to those who have been bullied. You obviously don’t mind supporting abuse and bullying.
