To think Priti Patel probably wishes she hadn’t been so quick to claim racism doesn’t exist?

....because now she can’t state it’s a factor in the attacks against her.

I have less than zero time for PP. I think her views are odious from claiming British workers are lazy in her capitalism on steroids book ‘Brittania Unchained’ to her comments on the Irish.

However, I also believe if she were white, the old guard of the civil service would have done some more hand holding, helped her find her feet, given her more of a chance. There have been many white male and female ministers who are horrible but they have not been quickly and publicly destroyed in the way PP has been. In addition the guy who resigned is no angel, having presided over the implementation of the Windrush scandal and was more than happy to assist in creating a nasty attitude towards immigrants under May.

Nevertheless, because she’s been very keen to pretend racism doesn’t exist in regards to others facing it including Meghan Markle in an attempt to ingratiate herself with the right of her party and DM readers, now she is a victim herself she can’t complain or expect anyone to come to her defence.

I’ve seen this at work in relation to sexism where a female employee who’s keen to rise through the ranks will turn a blind eye to all kinds of sexism in order to keep on the right side of senior men but when faced with it herself finds herself with no allies.

Am I wrong in my assessment?

It is not racism or misogyny to point out the glaringly obvious fact that Patel is deeply unpleasant, inhumane, and promoted way beyond her intelligence. I say this as a brown woman.

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:09

She's doing a great job... and She'll continue to do so...

Iggly · 29/02/2020 22:09

I hope you’re the victim of bullying one day @Tellmetruth4

My CEO is a Priti Patel type. Seen as “tough”, “straight talking” - you know the sort.

However she’s actually created huge problems for herself because people know longer tell her what she needs to hear but what she wants to hear.

As a result the organisation is fucked.

It’ll happen to Priti Patel. She will make a cock up but if she surrounds herself with “yes men”, then game over for her.

Yestermost · 29/02/2020 22:09

@BumbleBeee69 you think the way she works is professional? Really? Swearing, intimidating not listening to people who have been doing the job for decades more than you?

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:09

She's doing a great job...

Iggly · 29/02/2020 22:09

Fucking auto correct mumsnet!!! I mean @BumbleBeee69 not @Tellmetruth4

AutumnRose1 · 29/02/2020 22:10

OP

When did PP say “racism doesn’t exist”? I totally missed that.

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:10

I hope she stays in the role...

FoamingAtTheUterus · 29/02/2020 22:11

Yabu.

No one should be able to act like a cunt then hide behind their race bleating racism to get away with it.

She's been shelved because she went too far, it serves her right.

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:12

She'll be a huge success ..

PerkingFaintly · 29/02/2020 22:12

She is doing her job... as she should ....

Like this?

Which part of her job involves not knowing the difference between terrorism and counter-terrorism?

(And no, it wasn't a tongue-tangle: she said it repeatedly and referred to "victims of counter-terrorism".)

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:13

She's a credit to the position...

PerkingFaintly · 29/02/2020 22:14

Oh you're being ironic!

Sorry, I thought you meant it.

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:15

She'll remain in the role ... She's worthy

MerryMarigold · 29/02/2020 22:16

It did occur to me briefly that she may be being targeted by old school civil servants, but I think she's just reaping what she's sown. I just hope we don't all forget about this as Carrie's bump gets bigger.

Coolcucumber2020 · 29/02/2020 22:16

@BumbleBeee69 is a robot

BumbleBeee69 · 29/02/2020 22:17

She'll continue to shine...

Iggly · 29/02/2020 22:17

BumbleBeee69 😂

Lillybelle05 · 29/02/2020 22:20

YABU.

She comes across cold, ruthless and deluded.

According to multiple reports this is indeed what she's like.

I couldn't care less about what she looks like, what her origin is or whether she's a man or a woman.

I can't stand Dominic Cummings, a white middle aged guy. Equally, I can't stand Priti Patel, for similar reasons actually. They're part of the same BoJo obsessed crew, people with no morals or principles.

People are smart enough to see through her quickly and she is not exactly hiding her attitude anyway - that's why she's not getting much support. It has nothing to do with racism.

Cuddling57 · 29/02/2020 22:23

The way most MP's carry on is a disgrace.

tttigress · 29/02/2020 22:26

Don't see what the problem is. She is trying to break up a nice comfortable upper middle class club, that's still in the 1950s.

The Conservative party?

angell84 · 29/02/2020 22:30

Didn't she say to stop sending food supplies to the Irish?

She is a strange one

angell84 · 29/02/2020 22:32

That was a really shocking thing to say to a country, that had a famine that killed 1 million people.

I am not sure why she is still there

AutumnRose1 · 29/02/2020 22:36

I’d argue that’s not what she said about ireland

www.irishtimes.com/news/world/uk/brexit-tory-mp-backtracks-over-food-scarcity-in-ireland-1.3725093

I don’t understand the counter terrorism muddle.

I’ve looked up race, it seems to be similar to Laurence Fox comments. I don’t 100% agree with either of them but I wouldn’t say either are denying racism exists.
