Corona faker?

A person at work has been on holiday abroad - Thailand - has come back and elected to isolate because they say they may have been in contact with someone with Corona. They have no symptoms but have self signed off for 2 weeks (paid) meaning others are having to do their work. they are posting on FB etc about how they are doing their decorating and catching up with stuff in their two weeks. Their 'sick' record is poor but apparently this wont count against them. can we all just do this?

I can see where you’re coming from but would you rather they came into work and potentially infected lots of people?

Whilst they might taking the piss I think I’d rather not take that chance! Can they not work from home?

I'd be glad they were self isolating tbh. No symptoms doesn't mean they're not a carrier.

It can take 2 weeks for the symptoms to manifest, and he probably wouldn't know if hes been in contact with someone that carried it. Better safe than sorry.

Better to be safe than sorry. Imagine if they did come in and you all caught it, I’m sure he’d be a CF then too. Can’t win!

I'd much prefer them to self isolate than infect everyone. He could just be a blagger but I'd rather that than take the risk.

He could be lying but I wouldn't want to take the risk. Obviously you can do that too but you need to go on holiday to somewhere with a high risk of coronavirus first. Do you really want to do that just so you can have a couple of weeks off work?

He's doing what has been advised by the government. Might be enjoying it as well, but better that than infect everyone if he turns out to have it

It's annoying for you and difficult to prove if he is indeed being a CF, so I'm in the better safe than sorry camp, op.

If you look at the map of declared cases, we could pretty much all self-isolate, that's the problem.

Sorry OP but it’s 2 weeks, suck it up. Of course they’re going to be getting on with stuff that needs doing at home, what else would you do when you’re self isolating? People need to take precautions, yes it’s quite possible this person is taking advantage but it’s only 2 weeks. In the grand scheme of things it’s better safe than sorry.

But they could very well have been in contact with someone with the virus, there are a few cases in that country.
Are they playing on it? Yeah,maybe but wouldn’t you rather they didn’t bring the virus into your office ?

I presume he had to provide a bit more specific detail about location and times. Not much your work can do though if someone wants to lie about it they could but they can't take the risk.

Depends if they are able to work from home or not. If they can, that's a bit CF. If they can't, and you have no proof they are lying, well then what else can be done? If they've come into contact with someone they should self isolate - they don't have to be miserable while they do it. If I had to self isolate and couldn't work from home I'd do some decorating as well!

People who have travelled to South East Asia are all being advised to self-quarantine for 2 weeks, on their return, just in case. You'd only need one person carrying the virus on the plane for example.

I honestly think it's better to be safe than sorry, and if I was an employer, I would be following the WHO guidelines too.

I wish more people would self isolate - DD's school has kids that were skiing in Italy but are back at school. We aren't going to contain this without self isolating.

School in Derbyshire has closed, an American Oil company has sent home 300 people from their offices in Canary Wharf it's spreading and calling people 'fakers' for self isolating isn't helpful.
