Corona faker?

A person at work has been on holiday abroad - Thailand - has come back and elected to isolate because they say they may have been in contact with someone with Corona. They have no symptoms but have self signed off for 2 weeks (paid) meaning others are having to do their work. they are posting on FB etc about how they are doing their decorating and catching up with stuff in their two weeks. Their 'sick' record is poor but apparently this wont count against them. can we all just do this?

but thats the problem.people are saying they have no symtoms.but they might not be showing yet and they could still be infected.thishas been part of the problem.

Elle7rose · 27/02/2020 12:43

I'd rather someone did this, with an element of CFery than risked going in when returning from Thailand- be glad he's not in the Office!

kateandme · 27/02/2020 12:49

and what else is she meant to do whilst at home.if shes not sick then she should take the time to get on with shit that needs doing that she doesnt usually have time for due to work.
what would you say if she was just lying on her ass for two weeks.she cant win

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 27/02/2020 13:00

Isnt Thailand in zone 1 (as per Gov.uk's recommendation)? So people should self isolate for 2 weeks based on that

feemcgee · 27/02/2020 13:03

Thailand is Category 2, which means that you can go about your normal business. It's only those coming back from Category 1 countries that are being to self isolate for 14 days.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/02/2020 13:11

I don't think I'd count not being able to leave your home for 2 weeks "a holiday".

I'm an introvert - I'd bloody love it! Grin

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 27/02/2020 13:12

Ah in that case then its really cheeky! Im surprised a medical professional signed it off tbh

PineappleDanish · 27/02/2020 13:25

This person is a CFCF.

Corona Faker Cheeky Fucker.

woodchuck99 · 27/02/2020 14:07

If you are being pedantic, yes I included the entire process.

Why do you think I'm being pedantic. The trials for a vaccine will probably be complete in a year so why will it take years for it to be available?

Lweji · 27/02/2020 14:53

Not Cheeky Fucking Coronavirus Faker?

SavageBeauty73 · 27/02/2020 14:56

Genius! I wish I could do this.

Dieu · 27/02/2020 15:16

A cheeky bastard of the highest extreme!

hula008 · 27/02/2020 15:44

I do think that reading comprehension is low on this site.

Thailand is indeed a Category 2 risk for Coronavirus. You do not have to self isolate unless you are showing symptoms.

It's not selfish to go at all. You can't put travel on hold to everywhere that's got any coronavirus cases, and it's not different whether it's a family funeral or not (the virus doesn't stop spreading just because you're grieving). Unless you ban travel to a certain country, you cannot stop people going there.

It does sound like this is a convenient excuse for them.

bmbonanza · 27/02/2020 17:02

"Ah in that case then its really cheeky! Im surprised a medical professional signed it off tbh"
They didnt have to have any kind of medical - just rang in and said they had been on holiday to a destination that was a known risk and they might have been in contact so they were having 2 weeks self isolation (who even knows if they are actually isolating at all).

It is not a job where you can work from home.

PineappleDanish -This person is a CFCF.-Corona Faker Cheeky Fucker.
Love it - that is Exactly what I think!

I don't get sick pay and neither do half my staff one of whom has just got back from Tenerife. I'd like her to self isolate and not give me or any of the service users we look after anything but she can't afford it until she's forced to and I can't make her.
I actually wish the advice on it was more concrete tbh. Yes there will be some CF's but equally there will be lots of people that need to self isolate but aren't due to finances.

user1471449295 · 27/02/2020 18:41

I’m glad people seem to be following government advice.

DowntownAbby · 27/02/2020 19:05

I’m glad people seem to be following government advice.

Which advice is that @user1471449295 ?

The advice that says it's not necessary to be isolated when returning from Thailand unless you have symptoms?

user1471449295 · 27/02/2020 20:24

@DowntownAbby, I didn’t see the advice that says it is not necessary to be isolated when returning from Thailand unless you have symptoms. However, as the colleague has recently come back would symptoms, if any, have presented yet anyway?

Overall, colleague is a CF and opportunist. I’m all for containing as much as possible so I’d be secretly pleased if this was my workplace.

Arfarfarf · 27/02/2020 21:07

Quite shocking that more than half of the people here think YABU. Your colleague is a CF. No one needs to self isolate upon return from Thailand unless they show symptoms. Official government advice. I live in Brighton, there are people who have Corona Virus there too. Should the whole of Brighton self isolate? Of course not! The mass hysteria is ridiculous. Follow official advice, practise good hand hygiene and go about your normal business.

wrinkledimplelover · 27/02/2020 21:39

I'm curious as to whether everybody else in the house is self-isolating too. Does he have kids who are now off school stuck in the house for two weeks? A dog that needs walking etc? Self-isolating sounds like something g you do alone, but if you need to, so it's likely that so does everybody else in your house!

MitziK · 27/02/2020 21:52

You'll be bloody glad he took the opportunity for a fortnight off if he does go down with the virus in ten days.

Stop whingeing.

lljkk · 27/02/2020 21:56

There's a local business-man who has closed his shop for 2 weeks after return from trip to HKong. In case he has covid. So fine... except I think I saw him somewhere else in public this morning. I don't think he needs to isolate after trip to HK, anyway when he has no info that he had contact with anyone infectious. Just amused me, the whole awkward situation and people not having a clue what to do.

Undercoverworker06 · 28/02/2020 13:55

Funnily enough we were discussing this the other day, as in what is to stop people ringing in saying they've been in contact with a possible source/ might have it? I work in retail so handling money/ talking to customers/ touching baskets and trolleys etc and who knows where customers have been? A lady I spoke to yesterday has just flown back from Australia, who knows who was on her flight or at the airport? What will companies require as evidence?
I'm just waiting for the usual suspects to claim they've got it, but again, what can you do?
