Sorry if there is already a thread about this, I couldn’t find one.

AIBU to think this is totally unacceptable and the US police are heartless and cruel?

It’s things like this, that put me off ever living in America 😢😡

OP posts:

The arresting officer was investigated for abusing his own 7yo son.

Shock
Fantasiaa · 27/02/2020 00:02

I clicked on the link and knew the 6 year old would be a black girl. Sad

Same here

FoamingAtTheUterus · 27/02/2020 00:12

The little girl who was arrested and placed in a psychiatric facility for two days was also black. Not only that she is a black child who has special needs. 😳😳😳

Imagine that happening in the UK ? 6 year old child arrested and placed on a psych ward without her parents being told ? The parents would sue until there was nothing left to sue, the school would probably close, people would lose jobs left right and centre.

The UK isn't perfect by any stretch but I'm glad that shit wouldnt fly here.

I'd love to see him faced with a 6foot tall 4 foot wide rugby player. Itd be interesting to see how big and hard he was then

SinisterBumFacedCat · 27/02/2020 00:22

The fact that of the posters who support this Ex-officers actions, one is a teacher and one adopted vulnerable children, makes me very depressed.

aurynne · 27/02/2020 00:31

Of course, this would also happen to the white kid of a rich white American... Not!

There wouldn’t have been cable ties involved, that’s for sure, just multiple gun shots to the head and bodycam footage that mysteriously got “lost” Sad

Papergirl1968 · 27/02/2020 00:40

What exactly is your point, Sinister?

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/02/2020 00:47

I too find it chilling that those responsible for the welfare of vulnerable children and upholding law and order, are supportive of this child abusing piece of shit.

Nancydrawn · 27/02/2020 00:48

I want to say again, this is horrific. There are at least two problems here.

One is systemic: systemic racism, a terrible carceral system, and not enough support within education. I wouldn't be surprised if poverty played a role here too; thanks, redlining, for all your help with that.

The second is personal: it sounds like this asshole was cruel, angry, and abusive. He should never be put into a position where these traits could be taken out on the vulnerable.

My frustration with the reflexive response have nothing to do with not acknowledging any of these factors. I'm glad he got fired and I hope he gets punished.

Papergirl1968 · 27/02/2020 00:51

I just happen to think teachers have the right not to be assaulted at work, by any kid, including my own.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/02/2020 00:58

I too think that teachers have the right not to be assaulted at work. I also think that children should not be abused by police officers or anyone else.

Papergirl1968 · 27/02/2020 00:58

The amount of pearl clutching on this thread is ridiculous.
I think most of you would be shocked at the behaviour of children in the average British school, yes, even primary schools.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/02/2020 00:59

And that abusing children doesn't protect teachers.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/02/2020 01:04

Many of my family teach (primary and secondary) papergirl, so I know quite a bit about the behaviour of pupils in schools from 1970s until the present. They are all horrified by this. Abusing children doesn't protect adults.

Sofonisba · 27/02/2020 01:08

I don't think it's pearl clutching, just common sense. If you think putting cable ties on a 6-year-old and arresting them is a good way to combat unruly behaviour then you shouldn't be anywhere near a school tbh.

But I don’t see it as abuse,,Dione.
Anyway, it’s late and I’m off to bed.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/02/2020 01:25

That's what is chilling Papergirl.

Incontinencesucks · 27/02/2020 01:41

Fucking disgrace. The police, teachers...poor baby. Her parents must have been heartbroken to hear her so distraught.

Misbehaving? Wtf?

Hellokittymania · 27/02/2020 01:45

Wasn’t there a very similar case like this, just a few months ago? And the grandmother was furious… I believe that was also in Florida… I grew up there, I had all of my education there… And this kind of thing is a palling. As far as I know, several schools are still allowed to paddle students. I could do so while I was at school, anyway.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 27/02/2020 02:07

Exactly what I was thinking @SinisterBumFacedCat

Goldandgold · 27/02/2020 04:15

Completely agree @SinisterBumFacedCat
