Sorry if there is already a thread about this, I couldn’t find one.

AIBU to think this is totally unacceptable and the US police are heartless and cruel?

It’s things like this, that put me off ever living in America 😢😡

I knew before clicking on the link that the child would be of colour.

That poor girl.

I hope the parents get a shit hot lawyer and sue the arse off everyone involved.

SabineSchmetterling · 26/02/2020 22:00

It’s horrendous but he was fired. It’s a bit unfair to judge the “US” police based on this, given that. In the UK the age of criminal responsibility is below the minimum recommended by the UN (and lower than the age set for federal crimes in the US) so we don’t really have the moral high ground on this issue.

SpaceDinosaur · 26/02/2020 22:02

How in Gods name are the police called and not her parents?

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 26/02/2020 22:03

Wtaf?? Shock

Surely she has to have an appropriate adult go with her at very least? That’s fucking terrifying.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/02/2020 22:03

The age is 10 in the UK AND .... kids aren't handcuffed

iirc Thompson and Venables were not handcuffed, even though they were charged with the murder of James Bulger

Nameofchanges · 26/02/2020 22:04

That is just horrendous. That poor child. Any reasonable adult hearing that little girl’s fear would want to help her.

chomalungma · 26/02/2020 22:05

How can you handcuff a 6 year old?

What did he think she was going to do?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/02/2020 22:05

I bet the Police where there in minutes, too. If itd have a shooting between gangsters they'd have taken their merry old time. I didn't click on the video
. I couldn't. If they're having to call the police on babies (and she is a baby)because they can't deal with their behaviour. They're in the wrong job.
If I was that little ones mother. I'd rip them a new one. i m all for discipline, but that's terrorizing a child. Imagine how scared she must have been.

faracrossthepond · 26/02/2020 22:05

Vile vile vile. Angry

Wouldn't live in America if you paid me. Awful country to live for so many reasons.... unless you are wealthy and privileged.

For all its faults, I would never want to live anywhere but the UK, and will never ever be leaving the UK.

Skysblue · 26/02/2020 22:05

It was child abuse (and wrongful arrest given she was under the US age of criminal responsibility). All very well saying someone has been fired but the other police officer and teachers also failed to intervene. No-one called the police (or parents? or lawyer?) to complain that one of the cops was committing child abuse.

I can’t think of any other Western country where that could happen. Not even a one off incident as there was another (slightly older) child a year or few ago who was physically abused and dragged away by a way over the top school police officer. And those are just the incidents that are both caught on camera and released and go viral. Must be other incidents that aren’t as publicised.

Obviously police in schools isn’t the answer. Think they are there because supposed to prevent shootings but when there was a shooting didn’t the school cop run the other way?

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 26/02/2020 22:06

Weren’t the teachers/ staff passive!

I thought the came across as though they were afraid to object.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/02/2020 22:06

There is a very low threshold for US schools calling police for disruptive SMALL children

  • that would never happen in the UK
PreggoFeminist86 · 26/02/2020 22:06

I'm not a 'cryer' at all & have just sobbed watching that. She's so young & so afraid. Why on earth did they use restraints on a tiny child? What kind of permanent psychological damage will this incident do to her? How can she trust the adults around her to keep her safe after that?

Not to mention the obvious fact that there is no fucking way that they would have arrested & restrained a little 6 yr old blonde, caucasian girl.

TheyDoDoThat · 26/02/2020 22:07

She will now grow up distrusting and hating the police. When she genuinely needs help she won’t call.

Poor baby.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/02/2020 22:07

It was the school who called the police
Did all the teachers agree with that, or just the head ?

Crystal87 · 26/02/2020 22:07

Only in America. Absolutely disgusting and fucked up.

Saxineno · 26/02/2020 22:08

This happened to my friends son in Florida. Ten years old autistic had a melt down, armed police called and he was arrested and taken away. They're moving back here now !! Suddenly living near Orlando not worth it.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 26/02/2020 22:08

I saw the headline and thought immediately - it’ll be a black kid.

Same.

Icantreachthepretzels · 26/02/2020 22:08

I really hope her parents no longer send her to that school. There is no excuse for them (the school) allowing her to be treated that way, not unless she actually murdered someone in the classroom.

I'm another one not remotely surprised to discover it was a black child being victimised.

That bastard cop 'jeez she broke the record' ... yeah and she lost you your job too, you pathetic little arsewipe.

SabineSchmetterling · 26/02/2020 22:09

And he wasn’t meant to arrest anyone under the age of twelve (the UN recommended minimum age) without a supervisor’s permission. The fact that he was sacked suggests that Americans are every bit as horrified by this as we are.

Whatsername177 · 26/02/2020 22:10

Absolutely ridiculous, abusive and just plain fucking stupid. Why did the teachers phone police? My friend is a DC with the police force and he always moans when people 'threaten' young people with the police as it demonizes the police force in the eyes of the young. I'm a teacher - unless a young person was in danger of actually seriously harming themselves or someone else we would never call the police. The little girl was listening to a story when the police arrived! Disgraceful, probably racist behaviour by the officer.

The police officer was in the school, lots of US schools have police assigned to them.

Chilver · 26/02/2020 22:13

That is so disturbing!, He sounded proud....disgusting, that poor child. She seemed calm too (before being handcuffed!) so I can’t imagine what she must have done in order for the school to call the police??

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/02/2020 22:13

Can’t bring myself to watch it but I’m horrified. Sad thing is she possibly doesn’t have a great home life either (I hope I’m wrong).
