Eat Lab Grown meat? Will it help the environment?

OP posts:
LucyAutumn · 25/02/2020 18:15

I'm vegetarian because I don't like the texture of meat, so no I would not eat it.

GrowingUpIsATrap · 25/02/2020 18:22

I'm vegan and wouldn't, but i wasn't a bit meat lover to begin with.

NailsNeedDoing · 25/02/2020 18:22

I wouldn’t, but people go veggie or vegan for different reasons, so I can see that some people might. Personally, I find eating dead animals pretty gross, so the concept of eating fake dead animals is completely lost on me.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 25/02/2020 18:23

No I wouldn't either.

I try an keep my food as unprocessed as possible and avoid as much genetically engineered foods as I can.

However I hope it catches on amongst the meat eaters who don't want to be vegetarian

Whatsername177 · 25/02/2020 18:24

No. I have a real issue with it. It feels very Frankensteinesque.

ContessaferJones · 25/02/2020 18:24

I'd be in favour of it in principle (it's a lot better than the current animal rearing industry) but don't feel any particular need for it. I'd probably try it once tbf.

PileofToss · 25/02/2020 18:25

I gave up meat because I didn’t see the need to eat animals anymore, but now it’s been 5+ years I don’t think I’d go back.

I think it would be more beneficial for people who currently eat meat, than those who’ve already given it up Smile

Mooserp · 25/02/2020 18:25

No. I've no interest in anything that tastes like meat.

Thymelord · 25/02/2020 18:25

No, I know it's not dead animal flesh but the thought of it just repulses me!

SimonJT · 25/02/2020 18:25

No, meat/fish has never been part of my diet and I don’t want to change that. I doubt suddenly eating meat for the first time in my life would be kind on my bowels!

Userpompom · 25/02/2020 18:25

No. I'm vegetarian have been for around 20 to 25 years. I originally stopped eating meat because I really didn't like the taste or texture. I then started to dislike the idea of eating another animal or it being part of me. With lab grown nest these thoughts still feel relevant.
Is it not more for meat eaters?

TheFuzzyStar · 25/02/2020 18:26

No 🤢

cherryblossomgin · 25/02/2020 18:26

No, I'm veggie because I don't like the texture of meat. It would have to contain no fat, connective tissue or anything else like that. I also don't trust it.

themueslicamel · 25/02/2020 18:27

I've been veggie for 30 years now, I don't think I would eat it as I don't find it appealing but I have no ethical reason not to.

LlamaofDrama · 25/02/2020 18:27

No, I've been veggie for pushing 30 years and tbh I struggle with quorn because it feels too realistic 😁. I'm just not into fake meat. Bacon crisps that have never seen a pig, now that's a different matter.

TheTwilightZone · 25/02/2020 18:28

Sounds revolting.

SickOFant · 25/02/2020 18:29

The idea of eating lab-grown food doesn't bother me in the slightest if that's what you're getting at.

My DP is a genetic engineer and actually working on a synthetic meat project right now so it's not particularly weird, mad-scientist stuff for me.

However, I mainly became vegetarian because I don't like the taste or texture of meat (apart from lamb!) so I wouldn't be in a particular rush to get some but neither would I be particularly opposed to it.

vikkimoog · 25/02/2020 18:30

From the other perspective, as an enthusiastic meat eater, if technology produced meat in a lab. which was exactly the same as from having killed an animal, i would rather eat the lab. grown but I think we're a long long way from it being indistinguishable from the real thing

cosytoaster · 25/02/2020 18:31

No, did used to enjoy meat but just couldn't face it now.

TeddyIsaHe · 25/02/2020 18:32

I would! I don’t eat meat/dairy for environmental reasons, but I still miss it A LOT.

If the lab grown stuff was dramatically better for the environment I’d definitely give it a god.

PhantomErik · 25/02/2020 18:32

No, I've been vegetarian my whole life & the thought of eating meat makes me feel rather sick.

Egghead68 · 25/02/2020 18:33

No I don’t like meat

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/02/2020 18:33

No. I’ve been veggie all my life and can’t eat anything pretending to be meat because of the texture.

CalleighDoodle · 25/02/2020 18:36

No. theres processed, and then theres this! Next level!

I went veggie for lent a few years ago and didnt miss it at all. And it has made me check labels too because so much of everything has animals in it. Crazy. And milk everywhere. Crisps? Why do crisps need milk? I dont eat store bought eggs. Only from small holdings or people’s rescue garden hen eggs. I eat vegan when im in restaurants as it is easy Grin

Klonda · 25/02/2020 18:41

I'd be up for trying it.
