I know there are other threads on MN about this programme, but everyone on there seem to love it, whereas I am cross with myself for watching it! My only excuse is that I am up at night on nursing duties for an elderly dog in his final days and needed something to help keep me awake.

Ridiculous, utter non-credible, flawed plot
Terrible, stilted script
Awful acting from some actors
Cliche-ridden characters
Big name actors just looked embarrassed and uncommitted

God it was awful.

Is there anyone else out there who feels the same or am I alone?

@LaurieMarlow have you seen The Capture on BBC? Really enjoyed it and much better than the stranger... it does get a little far-fetched but all the plot lines etc tie in together really nicely and I loved the ending.

I thought it was good that there were lots of black characters. Nice to see not an almost entirely white cast.

I enjoyed it.Siobhan Finneran will always be Janice Garvey in Benidorm to me though Grin

@OneOfManyDays

I thought the bit where Corrine jumped was a dream that her husband was having? I recall him waking up shocked and scared (in a terrible acting kind of way!)

@AnnPerkins @AryaStarkWolf thanks to you too. Smile I musta nodded off for a sec coz I missed that bit! Grin

Also agree SAFE was fab, and so was The Capture.

Happy valley S1 was brilliant. S2 was OK, but not great, and the ending was stupid. Still got to look at James Norton a lot though. Hubba hubba! Grin

I much prefer S2 Happy Valley to S1, and am glad I watched them that way round.

Trying to find The Capture, but only Ep 6 seems to be available Sad

Sooverthemill · 27/02/2020 07:57

@ChicChicChicChiclana I have all 6 on iPlayer. Look for Box Sets? I've only seen ep 1 and keep meaning to go back to it

Loved location spotting. We live South Manchester - and have just been to a wedding in that school in Bolton.

I did manage to sit through to the end- put it was a bit of a lame duck. I just couldn't take Jennifer with her ghastly hair seriously. When she was shot I just kept hearing Edina declaring Lacroix Sweetie.

The main leads are all great actors but just didn't gel here. And there were some of the worse young adult performances ever. The whole teen plotlines were ridic. Especially hated the big lad and the girl that was being poisoned.

Guff

AiryFlyingFairy · 27/02/2020 10:29

I watched it as was recommended by so many. Friends told me "It's amazing! "
It bored me. Totally over rated. Except for Siobhan Finnergan and her side kick Kadif (Not sure of his name) who really gelled & managed the minor miracle of making it bearable to watch for me. Jennifer Saunders' photo was in it more than her acting.
The plot was ridiculous. Let down.

I really liked it, I’ve watched Safe this week though and thought that was pretty crap

This! I really enjoyed it but god it had some cringeworthy moments and none of it made sense, especially the alpaca/Dante storyline. The worst acting by far was by the son, was it Mike, the bigger lad? He was atrocious, I’m not sure if he was meant to shout every line to be annoying but his acting was cringe.

I actually thought the ending would be the opposite of what happened and she would just turn up again, not what did happen. I loved The Stranger, she was great and it all made sense in terms of her involvement by the end. Couldn’t get over how a lawyer has just turned into action man, fighting and storming around town with unlimited time off too. Personality transplant or what! Very far fetched, but enjoyable trash tv all the same.
