I know there are other threads on MN about this programme, but everyone on there seem to love it, whereas I am cross with myself for watching it! My only excuse is that I am up at night on nursing duties for an elderly dog in his final days and needed something to help keep me awake.

Ridiculous, utter non-credible, flawed plot
Terrible, stilted script
Awful acting from some actors
Cliche-ridden characters
Big name actors just looked embarrassed and uncommitted

God it was awful.

Is there anyone else out there who feels the same or am I alone?

Drivel. My DH loved it. He didn't like Happy Valley though so that says something about his tasteGrin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 25/02/2020 15:54

Sorry about your dog opFlowers

OneOfManyDays · 25/02/2020 15:56

@faracrossthepond I thought the bit where Corrin jumped was a dream that her husband was having? I recall him waking up shocked and scared (in a terrible acting kind of way!)

The alpaca bit was just pointless.

AnnPerkins · 25/02/2020 15:57

Also, I saw Corinne (who went missing after faking her pregnancy) jump off the viaduct (and kill herself,) and yet at the end the guy had buried her...........

That was one of the husband's dreams.

The detective didn't live with the rat poisoning wife, perhaps that's why he didn't see the cupboard?

That was Adam dreaming, they showed him waking up :p

It was rubbish but the wrost thing about it was that it was so clearly an american author. manay many details werent translated to the so called British setting

Doobigetta · 25/02/2020 15:58

We enjoyed it. Partly because we were location spotting, lots of it was filmed around us. Particularly liked the bit where they drove from Didsbury to The Countryside via Hulme.

AryaStarkWolf · 25/02/2020 16:00

Exactly, they were seperated, he says "maybe she's paying me back for leaving her"

People finding plot holes because they're not paying attention tut tut (Ok there were some plot holes)

GlitchStitch · 25/02/2020 16:04

It wasn't the best but it was easy watching, and I love Stephen Rea so always happy to see him. They were the oldest teenage boys I've ever seen though, woeful casting!

I've just watched Seven Seconds and am now halfway through Messiah, they are both in a different league IMO.

BeanTownNancy · 25/02/2020 16:07

I'm guessing the "more to it"was about Tripp blackmailing her(or so she assumed) and her knowing that Adam was having/planning on having an affair which was what made her fake the pregnancy.

Tripp blackmailing her had nothing to do with the pregnancy though, did it? I really thought there was going to be some kind of awesome twist with regards to the fake pregnancy, but it turns out she was just a manipulative bitch who baby-trapped and then guilt-tripped her miserable husband, basically. 🤷🏻‍♀️

nameymcnamechangeagain · 25/02/2020 16:09

I wasn’t overly impressed. I’m a huge Harlan Coben fan and love his books, but am disappointed with both this and safe!

Ballstothisdotcom · 25/02/2020 16:10

Completely off thread but I read somewhere that Richard armitage and Luke Evans were having an affair during the hobbit.

Waspie · 25/02/2020 16:11

Paying him back by poisoning her own daughter? Talk about cutting one's nose off to spite one's face! It's

The fake pregnancy plot had to be in because that's why the Stranger was blackmailing her (I thought Confused ) . The thing about that plot line for me is that Dervla Kirwan is about 50. If she were pregnant the NHS (and the Guinness book of records) would be all over her.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/02/2020 16:16

I thought it was pretty good while watching it, but after it was finished I found myself thinking back and realising there were quite a few plot holes, quite a few unnecessary story lines, and a few things that made me think hang on how could that possibly be. Also the end made me feel a bit physically sick and was a bit of a let down.

Lucky Richard!!

Waspie · 25/02/2020 16:19

The butchering of the alpaca was gratuitous and unnecessary to the story. Really gross.

AryaStarkWolf · 25/02/2020 16:21

Tripp wasn't blackmailing her at all, she thought he was because she assumed that he'd hired someone who had found out about her fake pregnancy (in actual fact it was Bob who had originally hired the Stranger not Tripp but the stranger chose to just tell Adam rather than give the information over to Bob because the stranger found out that Adam was her brother so wanted him to know the truth)

Also, that "miserable" husband was a cheating piece of shit, he deserved all he got!

AryaStarkWolf · 25/02/2020 16:22

The Stranger wasn't blackmailing her though

BeanTownNancy · 25/02/2020 16:24

I don't think so. The stranger was looking into Corinne because "Tripp" told "Bob" at the football club that Corinne was going to try to frame him (Bob) for stealing the funds. Then the Stranger found out about Corinne's pregnancy and told Adam because he's her brother. I think maybe Corinne thought that Tripp had revealed her secret on purpose, but to be honest that doesn't actually change the fact that she did, blatantly, fake a pregnancy to trap her husband! Her husband wasn't asking her about football club funds, he was asking his wife if she lied about losing their child, so I think her "there's more to it" was utter, cruel lies. She lied. There was no more to it than that.

Ok, so I'm over invested.

furrytoebean · 25/02/2020 16:24

We enjoyed it but the storyline with the kids was terrible.
The next door neighbour little boy (didn't retain his name) was one of the worst actors I've ever seen on screen. He totally took me out of the story, it was like it could t decide whether to be a serious programme or a cbbc caper like the dumping ground.

Grumpos · 25/02/2020 16:26

It was utter shite
First episode wasn’t that bad in terms, acting very questionable but did have a bit of a hook. But the rest, total drivel
Is it me or does wearing a cap not conceal someone’s identity? She didn’t want to be recognisable so instead of changing up hair, maybe a different style of dress or even a wig, she puts a cap on. OH GOD I DIDNT RECOGNISE YOU THERE WITH THAT CAP ON

The twist of why the old guy didn’t want to move from his house was quite good in terms of a surprise but was still stupid af. Burying someone in a wall. Stupid.

We will never get those 10 hours back. And all for a few grand out of the football club kitty Hmm

BeanTownNancy · 25/02/2020 16:27

@AryaStarkWolf

Personally, I don't find telling someone their child has died to be fair payback for cheating, but I might be in the minority there. And if it was payback, why not just say "it was payback for the affair, dickbag!"

AryaStarkWolf · 25/02/2020 16:29

well it isn't real life, the standards don't have to be that high Grin

Rubyupbeat · 25/02/2020 16:34

Why do people watch stuff they feel is shit? What a waste of time. They can't have much else going on in their lives!

Waspie · 25/02/2020 16:34

I thought she did the fake pregnancy thing to try and win him back from this affair he may, or may not, have been having.

But quite why she then needed loads of time to think about how to talk to her husband I don't understand. Surely the obvious thing would have been to cry a lot, apologise and explain her actions, not clam up and leave?
