Harvey Weinstein guilty (just a little bit...)

I am absolutely delighted that HW has been found guilty, even if not enough guilty.

I hope he goes to prison for what he has done.

My AIBU is what happens to the other men in Hollywood who are raping left right and centre? Do they get followed up, or is it a case of picking off the tallest flowers first?

If he’s been found guilty surely he will go to prison.
That’s what usually happens.
Although, unsurprisingly, he’s been rushed to hospital with chest pains
Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

yolofish · 25/02/2020 09:23

I think sentencing is not until mid-March, and there will undoubtedly be an appeal.

Chest pains eh? How very surprising.

I reckon he’ll either get out of a jail sentence somehow, maybe through appealing or he’ll only be in jail for a short amount of time. He won’t spend 25 years in prison even though that’s the least he deserves.

Mrsjayy · 25/02/2020 09:27

He has another trial 11th of March in LA he is to be sentenced very soon I see he managed to get rid of his Zimmer too Hmm

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/02/2020 09:33

Whilst I would happily see them throw away the key in this case, I don’t think how long he spends in prison is that important.

He was untouchable, everyone knew and nobody thought he could be stopped. He has been publicly convicted and will go to jail. The women were believed and he wasn’t. It is a major step forward.

(I wish something could be done about Roman Polanski).

Mrsjayy · 25/02/2020 09:36

Rose Mcgowan was saying the same thing Chaz he is guilty that is what matters they were believed.

JoyceDivision · 25/02/2020 09:37

I did like the photo of the man carrying the Zimmer out making the point that the prop was now surplus to requirements

yolofish · 25/02/2020 13:02

I'm glad they were believed, I hope his next trial also finds the women believed too.

I think the Zimmer was borrowed off Bill cosby !

JoyceDivision · 25/02/2020 22:32

yolofish if I ever flounce off I'll let you know so you can claim the name!

In the news has Harvey the convicted rapist now upgraded to a wheelchair?

EachandEveryone · 25/02/2020 22:34

Imagine his dc finding out I think they are quite young.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 25/02/2020 22:36

It would be great if every abusive man in Hollywood were to be brought to justice (cough cough), but in the meantime, this is a really good result. I'm really happy for the women who were believed.

yolofish · 25/02/2020 23:13

lol at mrsjjay re zimmer!

TaRaNtino? missed that one but can see the possibilities.

I know someone my age (late 50s) who knows HW; she doesnt believe it. I suspect that is because she is very well-connected, and therefore HW had absolutely no interest in her. But I am suprised by her faith in HW.

Ive never heard anything about Tarantino either. I mean, hes strange but thats all I know about him.

His films drip misogyny to the extent I find them unwatchable. Kill Bill was the final straw for me - DH has had to to the cinema solo for his films since. I’d be entirely unsurprised to learn these attitudes also permeated his professional and personal life.

EachandEveryone · 26/02/2020 00:26

Well I would be surprised that the actors that are in his films would keep going back to be in them if that was the case. Especially Brad who was one of the only blokes that pulled Weinstein up on his behaviour.

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 26/02/2020 03:01

I doubt he'll survive being in prison for very long. It'll be such an extreme culture shock that it'll be beyond his capacity to cope. Its effectively a death sentence. Prompting a feeding frenzie as lawyers fight over his money. Grim.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 26/02/2020 07:46

Tarantino was abusive to Uma Thurman during the filming of Kill Bill. He used to get a kick out of carrying out some of the filmed acts himself (e.g. spitting on her). He's also accused of sexual harassment and abusive behaviour towards girlfriends. The man is a repellant misogynist.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 26/02/2020 07:57

You know that Weinstein produced most of Tarantino's films, right? But Brad kept going back. All of those men knew, and still know, about what goes on. They don't care enough to alter their own career path.

longwayoff · 26/02/2020 08:04

Hollywood full of abusive misogynists? Oh, surely not, who'd have thought it? Take an objective look at the dross they turn out for our 'entertainment'. Then look at the fashion industry and it's related sideshoots. If HW spends more than 3 months in prison, if that, I'll be amazed. Especially under the reign of Misogynist in Chief, the pussy grabber himself. Absolute sickening hypocrisy from an industry built on hating and humiliating women in the guise of 'giving' them a career.

Mrsjayy · 26/02/2020 08:12

Oh god that Tarrintino story is repulsive I like Kill bill films but that just put me off them.

boatyardblues · 26/02/2020 09:04

Because the original New York Times #metoo interview with Uma Thurman is paywalled, here’s a summary: mashable.com/2018/02/03/uma-thurman-me-too-tarantino/?europe=true The original article is linked in this one if you have an NYT subscription.

longwayoff · 26/02/2020 09:23

Interesting article boatyard, thank you. I don't see why the author feels a new vocabulary is required to describe Tarantino's behaviour though. Can we not say what it is? Violent exploitative misogyny designed to harm and humiliate the woman involved for his own gratification. To say the least. And he's still a Hollywood god. Like the others.

EachandEveryone · 27/02/2020 18:25

Thanks for that. I do believe they are making another Kill Bill or did I imagine that?

Mrsjayy · 27/02/2020 20:43

That article is horrible clearly Tarrintino gets off on stuff like that what a fucking weirdo Angry

Yes supposedly they want to do do a KB3 with the daughter who will be in her 20s
