Harvey Weinstein guilty (just a little bit...)

I am absolutely delighted that HW has been found guilty, even if not enough guilty.

I hope he goes to prison for what he has done.

My AIBU is what happens to the other men in Hollywood who are raping left right and centre? Do they get followed up, or is it a case of picking off the tallest flowers first?

Apparently he had a fall in Rikers Island jail - presumably he’s using every trick to try to get out, though presumably if he’s genuinely hurt there’s a hospital in the prison.

he's had heart surgery but will prob need to go to a 'special' prison in the Hollywood Hills or Palm Springs. reminds me of the late Andy Williams first wife Claudine Longet who 'might' have shot her lover USA #1 skier Spider Sabich.

The jury convicted her of a lesser charge—misdemeanor criminal negligence—and sentenced her to pay a small fine and spend 30 days in jail.[21] The judge allowed Longet to choose the days she served, believing that this arrangement would allow her to spend the most time with her children, and she chose to work off most of her sentence on weekends. (Critical reaction to the verdict and sentencing was exacerbated when she subsequently vacationed with her defense attorney, Ron Austin, who was married at the time; Longet and Austin later married and still live in Aspen.)

pedallleur Shock I've never heard of that, how absolutely fascinating.

23 years. Bye bye Mr. Weinstein.

Weinstein, who is 67, has been sentenced to 23 years - 20 years on the first count, 3 years on the second, to run concurrently meaning that he has been given a 20 year sentence so he could be out in 10, or less if he proves to be a model prisoner.

The judge also ordered that Weinstein must serve 5 years of post-release supervision and register as a sex offender.

It's expected that Weinstein will undergo medical evaluation before he's transferred from the city jail (Rikers) to the state prison system.

The defence have stated that Weinstein will appeal the verdict.

👍

This is such fantastic news. Amazing.

I hope he dies in jail, but not before serving a very large part of his sentence.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 17:22

Well he's apparently not in great health, heart problems, spine problems, falls etc. One can but hope.

OTH the appeal will no doubt centre on his dreadful health, poor chap, needs to serve his time in some gentle institution with day release, a la Geoffrey Epstein.

Hopefully this will help other women to feel they can be heard if they wish to speak out (against HW or others) and more importantly believed.

DonKeyshot · 11/03/2020 19:20

There's some confusion as to whether the sentences are to run concurrently or consecutively.

CBS reported concurrent, a CNN reporter said it was concurrent and then said it was consecutive. All the other news agencies appear to have gone with consecutive but, whatever, it's unlikely to impact on the time Weinstein actually serves.

I doubt he'll be doing time in Attica or Sing Sing and, while I personally feel it would be appropriate for him to be incarcerated in Clinton, I suspect that after medical evalution he'll be despatched to a medium or minimum security establishment.

It will be interesting to see how LA proceeds with the charges they've filed against Weinstein as he's potentially looking at another 28 years if found guilty.

yolofish · 11/03/2020 22:22

There's another trial coming up isnt there, in LA? I'm sure he will get the softest possible prison term his lawyers can get him, but am so relieved that he has not got away with it (and I know it's the tip of the iceberg, but I hope those women can feel some sort of justice has been served).

@yolofish
I think money does talk and he certainly isn't getting as bad a punishment as those who were his victims.
Hopefully though he will be suffering and that he cant hurt anyone else.

PotholeParadise · 12/03/2020 17:34

I hope he lives an extremely long time in prison.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 23/03/2020 07:59

According to the DM he is now back in hospital with covid19. I hope to fuck he doesnt stop anyone else getting a ventilator.
