To think if you don't give your kids pancakes

Tomorrow that is really mean!

Unless you never partake in pancake /shrove Tuesday,

If you do, and just 'can't be bothered' you're a mean mum/dad..

Have seen people who can perfectly afford it saying nah won't be bothered making kids any pancakes or giving them something sweet.

BeyondMyWits
or do you pick and choose your religious festivals too...

What, you mean people choosing to carry on celebrating the traditions and festivals they enjoy (even after the religious beliefs have begun to die out) and changing or ditching the bits they don't enjoy? I'm pretty sure that's what most of humanity has done since the dawn of time? Grin

Shockers · 25/02/2020 15:05

I’m pretty sure spring and winter festivals predate Easter and Christmas!

L1appelDuVide · 25/02/2020 15:11

Well, I’ve not long finished a 12 hour shift which I do to keep my kids in clean, neat clothing, a roof over their heads, food in their belly and activities/birthdays/christmases/every-other-bloody-thing paid for but yeah, if I can’t be arsed to make pancakes tonight, they will be neglected children for sure Hmm

TerpsichoreanMuse · 25/02/2020 15:42

Well, we're atheists who celebrate Christmas and are making pancakes. Breton galettes with buckwheat flour served with cheese and ham, as we don't have sweet teeth.

PonteLaCorona · 25/02/2020 17:16

just buy scotch pancakes and carry your toaster upstairs instead of making excuses for laziness.
Fuck me, you could probably pass them through the window for her whilst you're up on that high horse. Shock

Such outrage over manky old pancakes on this thread. Its hilarious. Anyway, I caved because I am soft, and my pancake batter is resting in the kitchen Blush

FontSnob · 25/02/2020 17:44

I might just turn myself over to social services now.

Earthling1994 · 25/02/2020 17:46

I’ve been at work since 6:45 this morning and only just got home now. I’m tired, my son is shattered and we aren’t religious. We’ll have pancakes at the weekend

Devlesko · 25/02/2020 17:49

Mine is doing her own and probably half of her friends too, she enjoys cooking. Not sure I'd like to be the person on duty tonight though Grin

CharlieBear20 · 25/02/2020 17:52

My kid is 2 and I'm in the middle of moving house. Pancake day can be next week

pollymere · 25/02/2020 17:57

We get pancakes because we're fasting on Weds...

ZagZig · 25/02/2020 17:58

Lmao I'm religious and I'm still not doing it, not even sorry. My eldest wont know its pancake day and my other dc is too young to know or care. I bought eggs just in case but I'm tired as fk

GingerWit · 25/02/2020 18:03

OMG! Social services just found out I couldn't be flippityfuckitybotherybood to make pancakes for my organic children and they've taken them from me! 😭😭😭😭 Now I have to stand up in court and show the judge I can toss a pancake and catch it in the pan if I want them back 😭😭😭😭 waaaaaaaa

So I've taken the opportunity to book myself a child free holiday where I will endless pancakes and send selfies of me eating said pancakes to my children.

C'EST la vie.

NameChangeNugget · 25/02/2020 18:03

YABU

TheSandman · 25/02/2020 18:06

I'm making them because my kids want me to. Isn't that reason enough?

Wilkie1956mog · 25/02/2020 18:21

It's a bit of fun and a sort of tradition in our house to do pancakes, usually on the nearest weekend to Shrove Tuesday. (Not much time during the week, work etc.) It's usually the only time of the year we have them. But it's not a big deal if you don't bother!

SubordinateThatClause · 25/02/2020 18:23

Geez OP. Who are you to judge?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 25/02/2020 18:28

My DD would have phoned SS herself if I'd made them for her. She hates them.

AmazingGreats · 25/02/2020 18:29

Not doing pancakes. Not actually making dinner tonight. I feel no shame.

DanceItOut · 25/02/2020 18:30

I don't really do pancake day and as a kid my parents didn't do it every year either. However in our house I make it simple by asking my kids if they want pancakes for breakfast on pancake day the day before. Sometimes they say yes sometimes they say no. Seems to work fine.

ForestYeti · 25/02/2020 18:32

Well I didn’t realise pancake day was anything religious we just have pancake day because it’s well pancake day

Kirstyhewlett2018 · 25/02/2020 18:35

My kids don't like them 🤷

firstimemamma · 25/02/2020 18:36

The Valentine's Day drama has only just blown over and now there even has to be judgement over pancake day too?

Some people make their children pancakes and some people don't. It's not a big deal, yabu.

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 25/02/2020 18:37

Not sure if its mean but you're missing out! Definitely good fun to make and eat pancakes 🍌🥞🍓🍋why not?? A great timeless tradition 😃

Smelborp · 25/02/2020 18:39

I love pancakes, 7 year old DD hates them. I’ll go and tell her she’s mean...

Cryingwithlaughter91 · 25/02/2020 18:57

And what if my Child doesn’t like pancakes? (He doesn’t) Hmm not sure you thought this message through!

Anyway, enjoy pancake day. Lots of love all around on pancake day.
