To think if you don't give your kids pancakes

Tomorrow that is really mean!

Unless you never partake in pancake /shrove Tuesday,

If you do, and just 'can't be bothered' you're a mean mum/dad..

Have seen people who can perfectly afford it saying nah won't be bothered making kids any pancakes or giving them something sweet.

Agreed !

It's the highlight of the year in our house, ds is ridiculously excited and has been planning recipes for weeks.

And yes, we do have pancakes at other times of the year but pancake Day is just special. It's called pancake Day ffs.

Beansprout30 · 24/02/2020 21:48

Made mine today, both turned their noses up and did not like them. More for me though

Justmuddlingalong · 24/02/2020 21:49

DS1 is getting married this year. I hope to Christ the lack of pancakes in his childhood isn't brought up in any of the speeches.

Darbs76 · 24/02/2020 21:50

The secret to pancake making is the right pan. For years I couldn’t make them, then I got a small non stick pan. Don’t need those ready made mixes, all you need is flour, eggs and milk

TreeTopTim · 24/02/2020 21:50

I don't see the big deal with Pancake Day.

ThunderboltandLightning · 24/02/2020 21:51

It's the highlight of the year in our house

Really? More than Christmas or birthdays? More than a day trip or a holiday? Please tell me this is just hyperbole for effect.

SlackerMum1 · 24/02/2020 21:52

I feel it’s mean to raise your kids to think thin floppy british pancakes are real pancakes... and don’t get me started on the abominations that are jam doughnuts (spoiler alert - NOT PROPER DOUGHNUTS). But I will make proper pancakes and waffles at the weekend of require. Does that count?

There is 4 of us - we went through about 20 pancakes Grin

Home made chocolate sauce
Chopped fruit
Lemon & sugar

I’m now thinking I may make them again tomorrow.

troppibambini · 24/02/2020 21:53

Mine are ridiculously excited! We are Catholic and there's lots of talk about it at school.
On the menu for the morning are
Strawberries, marshmallow fluff, melted chocolate, whipped cream, banana, melted biscoff spread, Nutella or lemon and sugar.

Everything is set up ready to go and batter is in the fridgeGrin

TeddyIsaHe · 24/02/2020 21:53

Dd doesn’t like pancakes Shock

But I will be having some tomorrow. Made the batter already for a nice 24 hour rest and they shall be glorious.

Spaceprincess · 24/02/2020 21:53

No one in my house likes them, so no pancakes and no trauma

DesLynamsMoustache · 24/02/2020 21:54

The right pan and the right heat are crucial IMO. It took some trial and error to find the exact intensity of flame to use on the hob for the perfect pancake 🤓

RocketFire · 24/02/2020 21:55

mean?? fucking hell....some of us WORK you know!??

like work SHIFTS!!

weebarra · 24/02/2020 21:56

We will, but seeing as we leave the house before 7.30 and get back about 6.30, kids included, I'd definitely let me off without pancake making.
As it is, DH has promised to get up even earlier to do breakfast pancakes and I'll incorporate ready made ones into dinner.

AuntieMarys · 24/02/2020 21:56

Never made them. Mine are in their 20s and have survived.
I hate them.

OldHarrysGameboy · 24/02/2020 21:58

I won't be making pancakes but I will be buying each of my children a Porsche and a trip to Lapland so just goes to show what you know, Judgey Judgey fucking Judy.

Also, my mum is a pancake. You monster.

AllPointsNorth · 24/02/2020 21:58

So, are we all walking around with black crosses on our foreheads on Wednesday? Not eating meat for the next 6 weeks?
DD is making pancakes, because we have a number of festivals as traditions in our family and it’s one of them. But no, I don’t think that not providing pancakes tomorrow makes you a mean mum. Bit of a bitchy comment really.

ShitUsername · 24/02/2020 21:58

is this for real?? 😂😂

RocketFire · 24/02/2020 21:59

very bitchy comment!

HuloBeraal · 24/02/2020 22:00

Huh? We do pancakes every weekend. They have enough cake or dessert frequently enough. They are just going to have a normal dinner.
(We are not Christian and we are not English!)

Bauble74 · 24/02/2020 22:00

I will be at work but have left micro pancakes for them tomorrow, we will make some properly at the weekend. I loved pancake day as a kid.

AudacityOfHope · 24/02/2020 22:00

My jaw is dropping at people being sad for my children because I'm a lazy parent due to lack of homemade pancakes.

Firstly, they're at breakfast club tomorrow,'l secondly I've got a course at night, third, get a grip.

dementedma · 24/02/2020 22:01

Nope, cant be arsed. I send them to their grandmother and she makes them. Works for us.

Iwantacookie · 24/02/2020 22:01

Massive pancake fans in my house so I shall be making big fluffy pancakes, we have whipped cream, ice cream, chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, salted caramel, oreos.
I only have one frying pan though so I shall start about 3pm and just keep making pancakes till were all full.
