To be worried about coronavirus part 4

I looked and couldn't see another 4th thread.

I'm personally worried this morning as I've heard that two students ds goes to school with have just returned from Milan where cases have just rocketed.

Anyone else want to guess what other bullshit he will come out with? hmm

Don’t forget ‘World Class NHS’ that they want to dismantle on the quiet.

I think this graph is helpful if feeling anxious. The number of active cases globally is falling. This shows China's lockdown is having an impact.

Italy has jumped on their measures and the rise in cases is due to extensive testing of those in the quarantine area. They don't know about patient zero though which is a concern as more clusters could emerge.

In my view the risk is Iran. No way are they reporting accurate figures and it seems adequate measures are not being taken. Will they seek help from WHO or keep denying the problem? I read yesterday that The Red Cross had been given an exemption from Sanctions to help in N Korea. Iran need to take action and be honest and ask for help and hopefully the countries who have stopped flights to Iran already will make them see that.

I'm going to inform school this morning. I'm hoping the head is going to send a text out for the people who haven't seen the update. Loads of people could have been in half term and not even know the risk.

Misandei · 25/02/2020 08:20

Message from Chief Medical Officer : Anyone returning from North parts of Italy (now on lockdown) must self isolate immediately!

NOW: Iran confirms 1 additional death, total of 61 cases and 15 dead t.co/eUoE2b20hL

KoalasandRabbit · 25/02/2020 08:26

And even the BBC has noticed quickly Shock

total of 61 cases and 15 dead

Ah yes those figures don't look suspicious at all. They have more deaths than South Korea, yet SK have 977 cases.

I wonder how long it will be until they are forced into revealing the true extent of the virus there.

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/02/2020 08:31

To be fair BBC1 breakfast news have talked about little else this morning, particularly since the Matt Hancock interview and the change in advice on Italy. I've had it on since 5am.

Originalyellowbelly · 25/02/2020 08:32

I don't understand why we are being told to sneeze or cough into elbows rather than tissues, surely this means people are walking around with the virus on their clothes.

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 08:35

That advice is for people who don't have tissues to stop people doing it in their hands

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/02/2020 08:40

No they've now said sneezing into your elbow is safer than sneezing into a tissue. Recommendation is to sneeze into your elbow NOT a tissue. Just been on BBC news.

Coronavirus warning: Travellers from northern Italy must self-isolate

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-warning-travelers-from-northern-italy-must-self-isolate-11942709

Get the word out!!!

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 08:42

Really Hasa? That's a new one. I really don't know then.

HasaDigaEebowai · 25/02/2020 08:46

I think its because if you sneeze into a tissue the germs are more likely to be on your hands than if you sneeze into your elbow.

ifonly4 · 25/02/2020 08:48

I guess if you sneeze into a tissue droplets can easily escape into your hands. Then we're reliant on people going to wash hands/decent strength hand gel - a lot probably won't and will continue touching surfaces

Glittercandle · 25/02/2020 09:01

I would hope that schools are asking (during assembly) whether students have been to the affected areas - particularly after the Italy advice today. Many may have missed the advice this morning so this would be a perfect opportunity.
I seriously doubt my sons school would as attendance figures are more important!

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 09:12

I've been into my son's school this morning. He's immune suppressed. They are sending out a group text to parents today.
Speak to your schools

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 25/02/2020 09:13

Radio 5live discussion on now with Q and A.

copperstrike76 · 25/02/2020 09:22

Ridiculous that PHE apparently sent out a leaflet for schools to circulate that didn't include Italy, and have updated the advice to include Italy today Confused

Yesiwearspandex · 25/02/2020 09:25

We have an office in Milan and I was laughed at when I had just raised this topic with my manager, told to stop being such a drama queen, and to stop discussing this in order to not encourage workplace bullying. A colleague has returned from a business trip to that office a week ago and is making what I think is a Lemsip drink at the moment in the office kitchen.

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 09:29

BREAKING: 1st case of #coronavirus in #Sicily, #italy. (#COVID19italia, #COVID2019)

YoursTunbridgeWells · 25/02/2020 09:29

@yesiwearspandex I would raise with HR about said colleague. Whatever your manager says this is a public health risk.

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 09:33

BREAKING: #Iraq health ministry announces 4 cases of #coronavirus in #Kirkuk

Onabun · 25/02/2020 09:35

Someone we work with is coming back from two weeks Vietnam and Singapore today. Both places are not on the UK Gov caution list, but still on the NHS list. My husband has close contact with him, many meetings etc. I am nervous.

I am probably being unreasonable.

ofwarren · 25/02/2020 09:37

BREAKING: Over 260 cases of #coronavirus confirmed in Italy. #COVID19italia
