metro.co.uk/2020/02/24/newborn-baby-born-coronavirus-patient-recovers-no-medication-12294823/

A little bit of very good news in the midst of all the scary news.

I’m honestly bewildered by the (lack of) reporting too. Mind you, my local doctors surgery seems very on the ball - text messages re Coronavirus, a recorded message when you call to make an appointment saying to stay away if you have Coronavirus symptoms, and did ask me all the relevant questions when I took my son in with vomiting/cough/fever. They were happy for him to come in as we hadn’t had contact with anyone from affected areas, but honestly would we 100% know? I’m just getting over the same virus and it has absolutely wiped me out. I would happily grab a two week isolation with both hands, I’m that exhausted Sad

I hope everyone in affected areas stays safe and well Flowers

My sibling was swabbed today but had returned from an on the list country - so im not sure the government is avoiding swabbing. It was all very hazmat, dusenfect the whole area and so on. The nurse? Said they had swabbdd quite acfew people to date but all negative so far.

Mintjulia · 24/02/2020 18:50

I'm not normally a worrier but the news from Italy has got me down today.

In 2010 DS spent two days in paediatric icu with swine flu - the worst 36 hours of my life - and although I know this bug hits older people harder than children, I'm scared.

I can hear myself being unreasonable and illogical but even so...Sad
I need some chocolate and an early night

China has cancelled its annual party meeting. This is a huge political event for the state. This is unprecedented.

Ciwirocks · 24/02/2020 19:30

Are there any cases actually in Milan or just in the towns that have been quarantined? I have family returning from Milan tomorrow, don’t know if it’s being overboard to avoid them or not.

WaterSheep · 24/02/2020 19:32

Been out at work and have come home to see WHO still haven't called a pandemic.

Absolutely baffled by this, anyone with more knowledge know why this is still the case?

ofwarren · 24/02/2020 19:43

BREAKING: 1st positive test of #coronavirus in #Tyrol, #Italy (#Austria border) the man has previously tested negative, but now tested positive.

BREAKING; 2 new cases of #Coronavirus in Emilia Romagna, #Italy. They are hospital workers who came in contact with an infected person. #COVID19

Porcupineinwaiting · 24/02/2020 19:54

@WaterSheep I guess because it doesnt meet the criteria for a pandemic just yet. That may well change over the next couple of weeks but at the moment it's still only been recorded in low numbers in most countries and "appears" to be fairly tightly under control in most of those.

WaterSheep · 24/02/2020 20:03

I guess because it doesnt meet the criteria for a pandemic just yet.

But who say A pandemic is the worldwide spread of a new disease.

Surely Covid19 meets this definition now. Confused

icecreamscoops · 24/02/2020 20:05

I'm getting worried! We're moving abroad in a few weeks and there is that possibility borders could be closed and we actually wouldn't be able to go!

HasaDigaEebowai · 24/02/2020 20:07

the WHO have issued some very confused messages today indicating that they're not intending to announce a pandemic since they don't use that measure anymore. A different spokesperson then said something slightly different.

LarkDescending · 24/02/2020 20:12

Re pandemics - yes I was sure I had seen earlier that the WHO said there’s no longer any such thing as a pandemic! Couldn’t find it again and thought I had imagined it.

ifonly4 · 24/02/2020 20:22

DH isn't one for panicking, but said he can see a forthcoming festival in our town being cancelled. He doesn't agree with prepping, or panic buying as he calls it, but suggested we get lots of pasta, cans and jars in. I keep telling him I'm well stocked up, and his comments as approval to buy more after pay day.

icecreamscoops · 24/02/2020 20:30

@ifonly4 where are you?

Twixes · 24/02/2020 20:31

Mine too @ifonly4. He's not one for getting overly anxious about things but he agreed that we should get a huge bag of rice and face masks.

I've ordered the masks online so I've no idea whether I'll ever see them but I do have a giant bag of rice and various other bits that would see us through a good stint of being quarantined or too sick to go out.

New case in Bahrain

Ministry of Health has registered a new case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), after a Bahraini woman arriving at Bahrain International Airport from Iran via Dubai tested positive, confirming a total of 2 registered cases in the Kingdom

HeIenaDove · 24/02/2020 20:38

There are big Italian communities in the UK (Bedford for instance) as well as elsewhere so im guessing they are frightened of causing panic as many will have relatives over there.

People arent stupid though.
