To discount the views of anyone who uses the word sheepie?

As soon as I hear or read someone say something like, you are all just sheepie, I just ignore the views of that person. I know people have very different views. That does not mean they have not thought about them, even if I think they are totally wrong. Calling people sheepies is basically saying you are stupid and have not thought about this.

Look at all you sheepies falling for the fake news posts that the word is actually sheeple

Hahahaaa bunch of sheepies

Devlesko · 24/02/2020 16:03

ohno

ha ha , nothing special, we are in theatre/ show people and musicians. Really, just counting our blessings that we have never had to get day jobs. It's tough at the moment and we have all come pretty close, but fortunately not yet. It keeps us going to talk about not having to be sheeple as it would kill us, to have to be normal Grin

AlexaAmbidextra · 24/02/2020 16:06

Who dares me to ask Tech for a 'sheepie' emoji? They're never busy on a Monday morning! grin

Perhaps before they bother about a sheepie emoji they could turn their attention to the Advanced Search function that hasn’t worked for the past two years? Grin

steff13 · 24/02/2020 16:10

Go to work the same time, come home the same time, life the same everyday groundhog day.

So, to you and your friends, people who have jobs are sheeple? Most employers don't really allow you to show up whenever you want and leave whenever you want and remain employed. That doesn't really make someone a "sheeple."

Devlesko · 24/02/2020 16:14

Steff

To us it does as our work is very varied, it's just a way of keeping going when it's tough. Do you not have a similar in your work?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 24/02/2020 16:23

I’m so pleased the teasing hasn’t upset Janemaster. She made an excellent suggestion re Boris Johnson on another thread today, and therefore can do no wrong.

pussycatinboots · 24/02/2020 16:35

@HebeMumsnet
Any news from the Tech guys? And can we have a special festive one with a santa hat ready for the fights over the last bag of sprouts in the middle of December Grin

TaniaArse · 24/02/2020 16:41

Definitely one of the most ridiculous threads I have ever (not) read.

Not adding much in the way of value to the world like; teachers, doctors, nurses, welfare advisors, social workers that you might class as 'sheeple' then?

ConstanceSalinger · 24/02/2020 17:03

It keeps us going to talk about not having to be sheeple as it would kill us, to have to be normal

Oh god, I bet you're those people who had an "alternative and unique handfasting/relationship blessing" and make your living from lottery funded projects.

Devlesko · 24/02/2020 17:21

"alternative and unique handfasting/relationship blessing"? never heard of it Grin I'm married, if that helps.
Value Our audiences see it as valuable to them.
Yes, we have had the odd lottery funding, usually for educational school visits.

HebeMumsnet · 24/02/2020 17:29

@pussycatinboots. Not sure... They're not returning my emails. Can't think why... I'll ask about the Christmas one too. Maybe that will get their attention... [sheepie]

AlexaAmbidextra · 24/02/2020 19:15

It keeps us going to talk about not having to be sheeple as it would kill us, to have to be normal

It’s a good thing that so many of us are ‘sheeple’ so that you free spirits have someone to care for you in case of illness or accident or put out the flames when your house catches fire. You should appreciate the many sheeple that facilitate your life rather than sneering at them.

Abso-bloody-lutely.

Unless, @Devlesko, you "theatre/show people and musicians" regularly launch yourselves off great heights and show the same contempt for an actual safety net as you do the one the "sheeple" provide you with.

I'd pay good money to see that.

Reginabambina · 24/02/2020 21:08

Obviously a lot of people do behave like sheep. People who use the word sheeple tend to be among them (they just follow a different herd).

Reginabambina · 24/02/2020 21:10

@AlexaAmbidextra a lot of ‘normal’ people do just as much harm as they do good stifling progress and freeloading off of creators and innovators. Being a cog in the postindustrial society isn’t something to be proud of.

I suppose I see and would argue that there are things/people that enrich lives, which are of course very lovely to have and there are other things/people that actually save lives. One category is optional, the other is vital.

LaMarschallin · 24/02/2020 21:58

One category is optional, the other is vital.

I regret that I couldn't have expressed it so elegantly.

I was still at the stage of:

@Reginabambina

Being a cog in the postindustrial society isn’t something to be proud of.

What the absolute fuck are you talking about?

I'm fairly proud of the job I do and, I'm pretty sure, that you'll have need of people in my profession. And doubtless have already.

I might like to go and see some theatrical/musical troupe, but I don't need to.

Sorry, @Devlesko, I appreciate that wasn't the point you were trying to make.

LochJessMonster · 24/02/2020 22:05

What is this thread!? Grin
Sheepie/Hyperbole/ballache just gets better and better

@Kirkman your reaction to hyperbole made me snort. Very unattractive.

Reginabambina · 25/02/2020 11:02

@AlexaAmbidextra @LaMarschallin I’m not talking about theatre. I’m talking about workers who do little but consume and turn up for work in contrast to those who make substantial contributions to society. It’s all good and well when people keep to themselves but when the normal people start to bang on about how good they are and how helpful they are and insist on imposing their view on others that things start to go wrong. Lawyers are a brilliant example, they go on and on about how important they are to maintaining the rule of law meanwhile making zero effort to improve the system which is riddled with completely unnecessary litigation and state interference. Or teachers, they love to go on about how important it is to educate young people yet a large majority just shut down analytical thought and curiosity instead preferring to force children to write learn facts and only a smidgen Of very basic academic skills. While people like that are patting themselves on the back for being ‘useful’ to society and holding themselves up as examples to humanity innovators who actually see problems and want to solve them have a ridiculous amount of bullshit wade through before they can crack on.

Holyfork · 25/02/2020 13:46

Those stupid sheeple doctors, saving people's lives.

datasgingercatspot · 25/02/2020 13:48

My daughter has a lamb Build a Bear she calls Sheepie. I shall refer to him whilst voicing opinions.

LaMarschallin · 25/02/2020 14:21

Reginabambina

I can't make up my mind as to whether you're a bit older than I am and, hence, and forged your views in the '60s and '70s (stretching perhaps as far as Pink Floyd and "Another Brick in the Wall"), or quite a lot younger than I am and just very naive.
