To discount the views of anyone who uses the word sheepie?

As soon as I hear or read someone say something like, you are all just sheepie, I just ignore the views of that person. I know people have very different views. That does not mean they have not thought about them, even if I think they are totally wrong. Calling people sheepies is basically saying you are stupid and have not thought about this.

I bring this up whenever I can but I found it hilarious that an MNetter thought ballache was a fancy word pronounced “ballash”

😂😂

TooTrueToBeGood · 24/02/2020 13:21

We are all sheep. It's simply not practical or possible to have completely original thoughts about everything in life. What matters is the quality of the shepherds you choose to follow.

IvinghoeBeacon · 24/02/2020 13:28

People LOVE to think they are especially superior and clear-sighted and not influenced by others/society etc - I find that this in itself often demonstrates a lack of insight in an individual

I’m genuinely interested to know whether people who use the word sheeple think they are super-original and not following the crowd by doing so

notreallybotheredaboutausernam · 24/02/2020 13:30

People who say sheeple are generally conspiracy theorists, so yes, I discount their daft views.

Kirkman · 24/02/2020 13:56

Hi-per-bow-lee

Never heard that in my life. I am trying to think of when I I would have used it out loud.

Never heard it pronounced 'bow-Lee' by anyone either.

Well, you learn something new everyday!

KatharinaRosalie · 24/02/2020 13:56

This word is only ever used by 'woke' conspiracy theorists, who of course themselves blindly follow every other conspiracy theory they can find. You're only a sheepie if you believe mainstream, scientifically proven and rational things.

purplezebracaun · 24/02/2020 13:58

excuse me - i have a flock of sheep and i call them "sheepies" - or sheepie if i'm speaking to just one - so there Grin

Devlesko · 24/02/2020 14:03

This word is only ever used by 'woke' conspiracy theorists

Oh no it isn't. I don't know any conspiracists, they usually make it known. Me, my family and colleagues use the word regularly to describe those that conform to societal norms.
You don't have to have any conspiracy theory to think like this.
The earth if flat, 9/11 happened, etc. But there are a lot of sheeple doing everything the same as everyone else, a bit Stepford.
Go to work the same time, come home the same time, life the same everyday groundhog day. Grin

Papergirl1968 · 24/02/2020 14:44

Oh yes, HebeMumsnet please do! Grin

Letseatgrandma · 24/02/2020 14:49

Sheepie-I have never heard anyone use that word!

AutumnCrow · 24/02/2020 14:50

Harvest ants, as John Donne would say. Well he wouldn't exactly, having been dead since the 17th century, but you get the gist.

Go for it, @HebeMumsnet Smile

sonjadog · 24/02/2020 14:52

I would use sheepie, like doggie, horsie, duckie. But never catie. Cats are only ever cats.

ohnooutofdateham · 24/02/2020 15:02

@sonjadog surely 'Kittie'!!??

sonjadog · 24/02/2020 15:07

Duh, yes of course!!!

In my defense I would never say "kittie" either. I am very allergic to cats so I keep well away!

Apolloanddaphne · 24/02/2020 15:10

Cats are poodie-tats obviously.

bee222 · 24/02/2020 15:12

I usually find people who say sheeple are the same people who say they attended the “university of life” on Facebook.

SpongeBoobBigPants · 24/02/2020 15:13

Well I thought it was herpes...

Twillow · 24/02/2020 15:13

Never heard of either of them. It's just 'sheep', surely.

Though I thought you meant people who used diminutives all the time as in "ah look at the little sheepie!" which, again although I've never heard it before, is cute and I am tempted to start.

TrippingOnSunshine · 24/02/2020 15:14

ballache
That is literally the funniest thing I have ever read on mumsnet Grin😂😂

Twillow · 24/02/2020 15:14

We do say cattie a lot, actually: a friend of mine actually had a cat named Cattie. (It's real name was Sweetie, but it wasn't.)

janemaster · 24/02/2020 15:18

@Devlesko Are you fairly young?

OP posts:
PinkiOcelot · 24/02/2020 15:21

Never heard of sheeple or sheepish x

MintyMabel · 24/02/2020 15:21

Yes. See also: anyone who uses the words woke or snowflake.

They have no actual argument to make and think doing so will shut it down.

OvertheUnicornRainbow · 24/02/2020 15:24

I thought this was going to be about when parents say 'Oh look, Ella - there are some sheepies and piggies over there!'
😂

ohnooutofdateham · 24/02/2020 15:25

@Devlesko I would Love to know what you're doing that's so exciting.
