To discount the views of anyone who uses the word sheepie?

janemaster · 24/02/2020 09:36

As soon as I hear or read someone say something like, you are all just sheepie, I just ignore the views of that person. I know people have very different views. That does not mean they have not thought about them, even if I think they are totally wrong. Calling people sheepies is basically saying you are stupid and have not thought about this.

Sheepie = A sheep that can also be used as a pen

Bezalelle · 24/02/2020 10:39

It always makes me think the person saying/writing it holds weird and dodgy views like flat-earthism and Holocaust denial Blush

opticaldelusion · 24/02/2020 10:39

It's used by conspiracy theorists and everyone knows they're tedious and insane.

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 24/02/2020 10:43

To be honest op, you are the only person I have seen use the weird sheepie, so I have discounted everything you said in this thread.

HTH.

Oh god I'm so torn between wanting to keep this username and wanting to change it to Sheepie.

YANBU OP and this thread has made me laugh Grin

MatterhornMadness · 24/02/2020 10:44

Grin I was thinking this must be about 3yos!

nolongersurprised · 24/02/2020 10:44

The usual word is sheeple suggesting people are blindly following the herd like sheep being driven by a sheepdog.

People who talk about “sheeple” have obviously never actually watched sheep being herded. They are a nightmare - there’s always lots of breakaways and changes of direction.

MatterhornMadness · 24/02/2020 10:45

"Look at the sheepies, Jack! Aren't they luvvly"

janemaster · 24/02/2020 10:46

@CarolHasAnotherUTI Grin

Now I am just wondering why I accepted what my relative said was right, and thought that everyone who has written it down has done a typo. Doh!

fodderbeet · 24/02/2020 10:47

So just to check, I am allowed to shout 'sheepie' when I go to feed the sheep? Or will they ignore my view that it is indeed feed time and shun me?

Devlesko · 24/02/2020 10:48

sheepie or sheeple, it doesn't make any difference to the meaning.
It generally means people who feel the need to conform to what the rest of society do or think.

It has nothing to do with not thinking something through or thinking someone stupid.
I use the term quite a lot as I'm one that doesn't tend to conform, not a sheeple.

ActualHornist · 24/02/2020 10:48

I am having a right old chuckle at Sheepies OP Grin.

nolongersurprised · 24/02/2020 10:52

It generally means people who feel the need to conform to what the rest of society do or think.

Why reference sheep though? Anyone who has spent time with them Smile knows that they don’t conform. I think you need another animal with which to express your superiority over the establishment.

Or an insect? Ants and bees are very rigid and rule-based.

mencken · 24/02/2020 10:57

used by the conspiracy theorists, flat earthers (and we know from yesterday how that goes...) and 'rebel' types. Usually as they drop litter, swig from plastic bottles and tell everyone else what to do.

NameChangeNugget · 24/02/2020 10:59

Taxi for @janemaster Grin

janemaster · 24/02/2020 11:01

Yes it won't surprise you to know that the relative who uses the word sheepie also believes a number of conspiracy theories. So we have never been to the moon apparently, it is all faked. And 9-11 was a bomb by intelligence services. He also said coronovirus had been engineered to only kill Chinese people - this was about a week ago.

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 24/02/2020 11:02

I thought a sheepie was one of those things women can use at festivals to piss standing up.

janemaster · 24/02/2020 11:02

@NameChangeNugget Grin

Yes the thread did not turn out as I had envisaged. At least I said it here instead of in front of colleagues at work.

OP posts:
amiapropermum · 24/02/2020 11:04

It's definitely sheeple but thank you Grin It's brightened up a glum morning for me

AutumnCrow · 24/02/2020 11:07

You're welcome Grin

LilQueenie · 24/02/2020 11:14

its just a word for people who follow the crowd and in some cases refuse to be their own person.

NameChangeNugget · 24/02/2020 11:15

I think you’ve handled it brilliantly @janemaster Smile

ohnooutofdateham · 24/02/2020 11:16

GrinGrin

LilQueenie · 24/02/2020 11:16

Nolongersurprised I believe its to do with either being a black sheep or being like all the others.

Letthemysterybe · 24/02/2020 11:19

Ah I thought you were talking about shepees - those funnels for taking a wee standing up at festivals etc!
