To discount the views of anyone who uses the word sheepie?

As soon as I hear or read someone say something like, you are all just sheepie, I just ignore the views of that person. I know people have very different views. That does not mean they have not thought about them, even if I think they are totally wrong. Calling people sheepies is basically saying you are stupid and have not thought about this.

Yes it won't surprise you to know that the relative who uses the word sheepie also believes a number of conspiracy theories.

Whatever you do OP, don't correct them. Let them keep saying sheepies.

janemaster · 24/02/2020 11:24

Grin Okay I won't correct them. If you meet someone who talks about sheepies, you have met my relative.
I suspect if I tell DP about this he will be doh, of course it is sheeple.

@Letthemysterybe Is that not shewees?

Thelnebriati · 24/02/2020 11:26

In future, replace 'le' with 'ie' when you talk to your relative.

''You don't have a very high opinion of peopie, do you?''
Grin

Drybird2020 · 24/02/2020 11:27

Sheepies is the word my mum uses for sheep shit. Perhaps that's what OP meant?

janemaster · 24/02/2020 11:27

This reminds me of the time I read on MN that hyperbole is not pronounced hyper bole. I had said this at work as well. I think quite a few times. Nobody had ever corrected me.
I had actually heard people pronouncing hyperbole correctly but thought it was a different word.
DP laughed a lot when I told him this.

@Thelnebriati That made me laugh out loud.

People who talk about “sheeple” have obviously never actually watched sheep being herded. They are a nightmare - there’s always lots of breakaways and changes of direction. Exactly. My sheepies are a nightmare if you haven't got a dog to move them. 'Sheeple' is always used by superior types on the internet. HTH

loobyloo1234 · 24/02/2020 11:41

YABU to confuse Sheepie with Sheeple. Can't get past that sorry Grin

janemaster · 24/02/2020 11:41

I thought I was going to be humiliated for using 'heffalumps' ...

SaskiaRembrandt · 24/02/2020 11:51

No, it clearly shouldn't' be sheep, they are contrary and rebellious species.

Or an insect? Ants and bees are very rigid and rule-based.

Beeple, it should be beeple.

Papergirl1968 · 24/02/2020 12:11

Love this thread, and well done Op for taking the teasing in good part!
For what it’s worth, I hadn’t heard of sheeple, but I’d use sheepies when talking to the cats (we take the cats on holiday to Wales and pass thousands of sheep, hence me keep going “oh look, cats, look at the lovely sheepies!” Blush)

GinandGingerBeer · 24/02/2020 12:13

I've ever heard of the word sheeple, ever! Or sheepie for that matter
What are EWE going on about OP? Grin
Are you Baaking mad?
That's the limit of my sheep puns you'll be pleased to know.

janemaster · 24/02/2020 12:14

We say doggies when we are in the car and see a dog. Both DP and I do it, We started it when the DCs were small to distract them from the car journey. They are teenagers now. They are not amused by it Grin

Devlesko · 24/02/2020 12:27

It has nothing to do with conspiracists they are completely different.
Sheeple just means to follow what others do.
You may know a conspiracist who uses the term, that's different.

steff13 · 24/02/2020 12:29

I think sheepie is kind of cute. I wouldn't mind if someone called me that.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 24/02/2020 12:31

Ignore all the peepie laughing at you OP Wink

Lordfrontpaw · 24/02/2020 12:42

I call sheep 'sheepie' as in 'get out of the road, you daft wee sheepie/s'. I call people far worse things.

IvinghoeBeacon · 24/02/2020 12:53

Are people who use the word sheeple just copying the rest of their crowd without really thinking?

HebeMumsnet · 24/02/2020 13:03

DD had a sheepskin in her buggy when she was a toddler and called that 'Sheepie'. But I always discounted her views anyway.

Who dares me to ask Tech for a 'sheepie' emoji? They're never busy on a Monday morning! Grin

Kirkman · 24/02/2020 13:11

This reminds me of the time I read on MN that hyperbole is not pronounced hyper bole.

Say what?

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 24/02/2020 13:16

@kirkman
Hi-per-bow-lee

I bring this up whenever I can but I found it hilarious that an MNetter thought ballache was a fancy word pronounced “ballash” 😂😂

eenymeenyminyme · 24/02/2020 13:17

News to me too Kirkman - I've had to google and I'm still not sure...
