What 'adult' thing have you never done?

I have reached the grand old age of 53 and have never booked a holiday abroad. I wouldn't even know where to start! and I fancy a holiday but don't know how to do it Holidays have always been in the UK, camping when the DC were young and caravanning for the last 12 years. My last foreign trip was when I was 19 and DM booked it. I just had to give her the money for it.

Drive
Get married
Have a boyfriend
Have a baby

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 24/02/2020 18:35

Never got married
Never bought a house
Never had a dinner party
Never used a drill

Pleased these are more common than I thought, however!

EngiNerd · 24/02/2020 18:39

Never been divorced.
Never sued/been sued.

Lipperfromchipper · 24/02/2020 18:39

I was shown how to change a plug in school...and learned which wires were which etc as a part of Home economics!! It was (and still is afaik compulsory here in Ireland up to the age of 15)

soggyweather · 24/02/2020 18:49

I have never

Flown an aeroplane
Built a bridge
Done a parachute jump
Made a quilt
Knitted a jumper
Made a souffle
Swam outdoors at New Year

BUT there is still time I'm 63!!

ItWillBeBetterInAugust · 24/02/2020 18:58

soggyweather are those all signs of being an adult - flown an airplane and built a bridge? Swam (I'd have said swum, is swam right?) outside at New Year?

Those are things which might be on your "bucket list" but they aren't things associated with adulthood!

FTMF30 · 24/02/2020 19:01

Drank coffee.

jakesmommy · 24/02/2020 19:01

Learnt to drive

soggyweather · 24/02/2020 19:04

@ItWillBeBetterInAugust a little joke?? I did wonder about swum, but didn't sound right. Sorry better put serious pants on!

Spicylolly · 24/02/2020 19:04

Never driven on a motorway, the thought terrifies me. Not overly keen on on dual carriages says either 😬

AlexaAmbidextra · 24/02/2020 19:07

If you're counting not owning or doing ironing in this then no, DH doesn't do it either.

No I’m not counting the ironing. I do very little of that myself. I’m talking about those things that as grown ups, we need to do to live day to day. What will these non-doers do when the person that has always done it for them is no longer around? Do they really enjoy being in a state of permanent helpless infancy? I really don’t get it.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 24/02/2020 19:15

In my early 40s. Done all the things people have listed that I wanted to do. Never skied (too slippy),never sky dived (not sure I could step out a perfectly good plane into nothingness), cooked a lobster (allergic to seafood), flown a plane (DH has and loves it - must give it a go). Got divorced (hopefully stays that way).

Have scuba dived, parasailed, water skied, driven a speed boat, raced a car, ridden a horse, bought and sold houses, got married, had a baby (definitely changed nappies), travelled a lot. Tried most “adult things” ahem😁. Seen dead bodies, seen people die, got pets, explained dead pets to child made a will, got a job, sworn off alcohol the morning after the night before. Unblocked a toilet etc.

Bringringbring12 · 24/02/2020 19:20

I hadn’t done loads of stuff

Then... I got divorced and became single mother of two and now.... bring it on!!! I’ve pretty much done it all!

GuidoTheKillerPimp · 24/02/2020 19:21

@Layoverlife

I’m late to the party, so apologies if I’m not the first, but never been on a train??

Bringringbring12 · 24/02/2020 19:24

@Gwenhwyfar

I didn’t host before 18 but I certainly went to dinner parties in sixth form held by friends who enjoyed cooking!

Rachel709 · 24/02/2020 19:24

This thread actually makes me feel better, I am good at adulting after all. Never been camping though 😂

Bringringbring12 · 24/02/2020 19:28

What’s the big deal about paying bills??

I didn’t pay any bills when married

Then I got divorced and now I pay all the bills

Shrug. No big deal.

22Giraffes · 24/02/2020 19:30

I've never...
Learnt to drive
Bought a house
Got married
Worn high heels
Been to university
Had a credit card

There are probably loads more, I'm a crap adult Blush

FelicisNox · 24/02/2020 19:31

I left home at 18 so I've always been very self sufficient... I've never had a proper dinner party though. 🤔

Aglet · 24/02/2020 19:34

Have never married, watched porn, eaten an oyster, driven, hosted a dinner party, been to a Tupperware party, been to a spa, had a massage .

britinnyc · 24/02/2020 19:34

Used a lawnmower (have never had a lawn)

Leontine · 24/02/2020 19:39

@Gwenhwyfar yeah mostly - but I’m still only in my 20s so I’ve not actually been an adult for a terribly long time. Grin

y0rkier0se · 24/02/2020 19:41

I’ve never spent a night in a house alone Grin When I was a teenager, if my mum was out I’d stay at a friends, then moved in with my boyfriend and if he went out I’d have friends round or stay at my mums for the night. Now it’s been too long so it seems like a big deal!

sqirrelfriends · 24/02/2020 19:43

I've never paid a utility bill, DH sorts that stuff. Also never taken my car to be washed, I'm a slattern (in regards to my car) and wait until DH gets annoyed and takes it for me Blush

Wilkie1956mog · 24/02/2020 19:49

Driven a car. Had a credit card or a loan.
