To think the male American Airlines passenger punching the reclined seat should be charged with assault if legally possible.

I have watched the video of the man continually punching the seat occupied by Wendi Williams who had positioned it to recline. I am totally appalled that she was not given assistance when she drew the flight attendants attention to her predicament. This mans behaviour was totally unacceptable. I find it hard to fathom his behaviour and really feel a bit disturbed by it. I don't think he would have acted this way had it been a man in front... Am I being unfair in thinking this?

I've watched her interview on CNN, theres more to this story than this lady is claiming. Shes also claiming whiplash when she looked like she was being rocked gently to sleep, I'm not saying it was right what that man did but I dont think this lady was completely innocent plus the staff had few things to sat like threatening to have her escorted off so we have not had the full story

SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 18:16

@Bikerider2020 There is more than one definition of punch. Can also be defined as striking with a fist. Clearly a mild punch to an adult could be forceful to a child.

mild punch

Now that's a tenuous argument!!

Honestly I've heard it all now, he punched me mildly! GrinGrinGrin

Bikerider2020 · 23/02/2020 18:20

Maybe @SiousieSoo you meant "lightly"?

I'm sure you will deny that and not admit you're wrong.... again.

SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 18:20

@Bikerider2020 God you're easily pleased aren't you?

OP posts:
Bikerider2020 · 23/02/2020 18:21

Or "light"?

FrippEnos · 23/02/2020 18:21

SiousieSoo

You are seeing a punch.

I am seeing his arm move backwards and forwards in time with the seat.
He is pushing the seat backwards and forwards.

As we are not going to agree. I will leave you to it.

SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 18:22

@Bikerider2020 definition of mild is not severe or harsh. Are you hard of thinking?

OP posts:
Bikerider2020 · 23/02/2020 18:24

Oh yeah a "mild" punch is a very well known phrase, it's not a light punch at all?

Knew you'd argue you were right, you can't handle anyone disagreeing with you, it's not a good trait.

AIBU

YES

NO I'M NOT!

SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 18:27

@Bikerider2020 jog on I'm bored of you now you'll have to start arguing with your other brain cell. @RaspberryTruffle I can't link to that video.

OP posts:
Bikerider2020 · 23/02/2020 18:29

Ohh getting nasty now @SiousieSoo, trait of a very bad loser.

Cheerio, hope you get over being disturbed soon? Maybe you could ask the bloke to pay for your counselling?

LittleRootie · 23/02/2020 18:29

Not RTFT and don't intend to.
A. Man is 'joggling' the seat, not punching
B. Woman is attention-seeking ninny trying it on and therefore -
C. YABU

Rosebel · 23/02/2020 19:07

So you think the air stewards are lying, you think the other passengers are lying and this man is in the wrong because he hadn't chosen to defend himself. You are being totally ridiculous now.

SauvignonBlanche · 23/02/2020 19:16

Why post in AIBU if you’re not willing to accept that others might disagree with you? Confused

SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 19:19

@Roserebel where did I state the passengers or flight attendants were lying? Stop making stuff up.

OP posts:
SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 19:22

@Sauvingnon I don't think you are compelled to change your mind if you don't feel the responses merit this. And I haven't heard any point of view that's sufficient to change mine.

OP posts:
TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 23/02/2020 19:28

Fundamentally its not assault, it was intimidating, childish and rude but not assault.

This is where the staff on the flight had a responsibility to act, they should have told him to stop, maybe even moved him if another seat was available. They should also have told her to sit up, she was being rude and inconsiderate to recline during meal time.

This is a case of a very badly handled situation and 2 unreasonable people.

She is playing it up to claim whiplash and we all know that, the impact of him 'low level punching' the seat wouldn't have caused physical harm.

Bikerider2020 · 23/02/2020 19:36

I've just read more of your hyperbole @SiousieSoo which includes

He looks deranged
You're disturbed by the clip
Totally unacceptable behaviour by him

Menacing and shocking behaviour by him

You really are hysterical and need to give your head a fucking wobble!

SauvignonBlanche · 23/02/2020 19:44

I didn’t say that you are compelled to change your mind in AIBU but asking opinion i.e.
Am I being unfair in thinking this? in the OP seems pretty pointless if, as I said earlier, you are not able to accept that some may think you are being unfair.

Perhaps MN needs a new board called ‘I’m right and everyone else is wrong’? Hmm

GreenTulips · 23/02/2020 19:51

You really are hysterical and need to give your head a fucking wobble!

Totally agree you are being hysterical over a man irritated by a woman who thinks she has a right to do as she pleases and sod anyone else. Men who do this are called louts. Woman it seems are called victims.

SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 19:54

@Sauvignon I guess what I'm saying is that I have not heard any point of view that has prompted me to think I have been unfair or to alter the viewpoint as expressed in the OP... I still don't think IABU despite the fact that many others do.

OP posts:
SiousieSoo · 23/02/2020 19:56

@GreenTulips really couldn't give a toss what you or anyone else thinks. He looks angry and disturbed to me. Your bar must be pretty low if you think his behaviour is more acceptable than hers.
