To think this person was rude to my DD?

DD (17) needed to get something printed and bound for one of her A levels. I had phoned a print shop I use locally and agreed I would pay for it later by bank transfer.

When she picked it up today they gave her an invoice and she asked, "What do I need to do with this - do I need to fill it in or anything?"

She says the woman on the desk made a face and said "You need to pay it!" then asked him how old she was. When she told her '17' she said "by the time I was your age, I had left home and was living on my own."

DD has dyslexia and some processing issues (so can come across as a bit slow on the uptake sometimes, I know) but AIBU to think this was still pretty rude?

Unlikely, I'd say, Barbie222.
I know the tone of voice you mean, but it's not one my daughter uses.
Her dyslexia means that she is used to not understanding things and therefore having to ask for help, so her default position is not one of arrogance.

@DorkingMum I do hope you let this woman know hat you don't appreciate her belittling customers like that and you're taking your regular business elsewhere. I cannot imagine small independent shops these days can really afford to lose any business at all.

Being offended or feeling upset about someone's comments or not is not the issue. Your DD's reaction to the woman's rudeness is neither here nor there, but the actual fact that the woman did it at all is what matters.

I agree that most 17 year olds have no reason to come across invoices these days. Receipts definitely, but how many 17 year olds are buying building materials, getting their cars fixed, buying new sheds, or hiring decorators or plumbers? I'm almost 40 and these are the only papers referred to as invoices I have received if I think about it.

I was in my 30's when I had to ask a chemist assistant what I needed to do with a repeat prescription because I had never used one at all. Never had need to.

Rude and just really bad customer service. All she had to say it was an invoice for payment and how did she intend to pay. No need to be rude and belittle your daughter.

As I said terrible customer service. Undoubtedly, you will tell your friends about this. Your daughter will mention to people.
