Yesterday, I had a compliment from a random stranger- it wasn’t sleazy- it was in a service station. Bloke walked past me, turned around & said ‘You are really pretty’ & that was that. Literally never happened before & kind of surprised me (esp as I am 45 😂)

But then it got me thinking that it was the first time anyone has said anything nice to me in a really long time & made me realise that my OH literally never says a bloody nice complimentary thing to me ever. We’ve been together 20 years but it’s made me realise how sad it makes me to feel unnoticed at home.

The comment yesterday just made me feel nice I guess as it’s been years.

Aibu to ask if your OH compliments you? And I don’t mean that I need validation from someone else either but I do feel a bit invisible sometimes!

This is so weird you posted a story like this. On Saturday I was sitting in Waterstones coffee shop and a very elderly man was sat at the table next to me reading some books. I was waiting on my husband buying coffees in the massive queue.
I have a bit of a 50s style (hair/makeup etc) and the man gently tapped me on the shoulder and showed me the book he was reading, it was a book with black & white photos of old 50s starlets, and asked if I knew who Rita Hayworth was. He told me about some of her films, then looked me in the eye and said "and they (meaning the old stars) were lovely then too". He then gave me the loveliest smile and packed up his things and left. I didn't feel weirded out by it and was actually very flattered that he had picked up on my 50s vibe! It was such a random thing. I am really into 50s style and music/film so it was a really special compliment to me.
