Lady on Question Time last night should have been more robustly challenged by all

AIBU to think that the Question Time panel should all have come out in condemnation of this woman’s hate filled and ignorant rant (instead of just Ash Sarkar) and that Fiona Bruce should also have challenged her?

Can’t think of the amount of damage leaving such televised opinions unchallenged does Sad.

Im sure some would wish it to be true that the empire had benefitted working class people so they could carry on the endless 'nasty English' crap, but its an absurd idea. Maybe read some Engels on his experiences of the British working classes, Dicken's sketches of the desolation caused by rapid industialisation, or cast your eye over the casulties of world war war, or the 'bloody code' law brought in by the few who did benefit from the empire to protect their ill gotten gains. Children climbing bone piles for a living due to the massive wealth inequality the industrial revolution (fuelling the empire) caused. If you think the past was in any way improved by empire for the average person its you who needs to do some more history and get your head out of the arse that is twitter politics.

And now i await the disingenous 'oh I cant believe they dont teach the minutiae of the history of the irish constitution to you ignorant, awful british people at school' from a certain few.

The reason the NHS is stretched to the limits and our infrastructure is shite is more likely down to Tory austerity than immigrants, I would imagine.

Ormthe Ragged trousered philanthropist set in Hastings.

Read yonks ago but so awful and heart rendering. The UK has evolved over the 20th century and the working classes have struggled. They haven't had it easy.

Tory austerity and an increasing ageing population, not to mention staff shortages. The poor NHS doesn’t stand a chance.

I voted for Brexit, and am a political centrist - neither left or right, and always voted Labour before the ghastly Corbyn and Dane Abbott were at the helm, and I cringed watching that woman. She was AWFUL. Blush

anotherlittlechicken · 22/02/2020 22:53

DIANE Abbott - not DANE!

Nonnymum · 23/02/2020 17:13

anotherlittlechicken the problem is Brexit has given people like that a voice. It has made them think that it is OK to hate people who they see as different and blame them for everything. I know that all Brexit supporters are not like that. But they have helped to create an environment where people like her think it's OK to voice their obnoxious views.

People mix with others who have similar beliefs , language, culture
Some people do but not all people. I have people in my own family who come from a different country and speak a different languages and my friends are from different places, backgrounds and faiths. I like that we can learn from each other.
