AIBU to think that the Question Time panel should all have come out in condemnation of this woman’s hate filled and ignorant rant (instead of just Ash Sarkar) and that Fiona Bruce should also have challenged her?

Can’t think of the amount of damage leaving such televised opinions unchallenged does Sad.

Sadly those who have not lived through the consequences of such hatred have no idea what such opinions can lead to.

Some of us may not have lived through it but are anxious that history is remembered and not repeated.

Nonnymum · 21/02/2020 17:27

It's people like her who are destroying this country with their divisionist views.

I agree. And I can't watch Question Time any more because of people like her. The scariest thing is people like her are allowed to spout their bile ans they are everywhere

maxbabi · 21/02/2020 17:30

@30Mintychoc1 completely agree.
My best mate is of Indian heritage although born here when I asked how he voted. Brexit. Why because he's sick of immigration blaming the Polish etc.
It exists. I personally hate how we have become and the rise in right wing terrorism only proves that.
I no longer watch QT it's dreadful.

Glittercats · 21/02/2020 17:34

I’m sure she’s absolutely delighted with herself and thinks she’s “said it like it is...”

But this mentality exists, sadly. Some people can’t comprehend anything beyond their own little box. They are just not capable, Very depressing.

Cremebrule · 21/02/2020 17:35

I was angry with the amount of airtime she had. I’d love to know what she’s achieved in her life. I suspect there are many immigrants that have contributed significantly more than she has to the country.

Nonnymum · 21/02/2020 17:35

hamstersarse but what exactly is our culture? The UK is made up of 4 nations all with their 'own culture' if you mean English culture what would you say that was? At what time in history would you say we should have stopped evolving? All cultures including the language , changes and takesfrom other cultures over the years. There is no simple 'pure UK culture' and no single language either.

antwacky · 21/02/2020 17:40

Horrible ignorant woman, she looks so familiar but think its because she reminds me of Pam Shipman from Gavin and Stacey.

WallyDancre · 21/02/2020 17:41

@WallyDancre What a horribly sneering post.

Why? Do you think it's okay to watch/read dog-whistle populist garbage?

AutumnCrow · 21/02/2020 17:47

I turned it over when she started shouting 'rubbish' at Ash Sarkar and Fiona Bruce was still allowing it.

A small person illustrative of something big and dangerous.

Scabetty · 21/02/2020 17:49

She is a Tommy Robinson banner waver. Check on Twitter for a photo of her outside parliament.

drina27 · 21/02/2020 17:49

A lady?! Really?

drina27 · 21/02/2020 17:50

Only heard of this person’s rantathon. Never watch that unbearable programme. It would make me scream

Unacceptable111 · 21/02/2020 17:51

Do you think it's okay to watch/read dog-whistle populist garbage?

I don’t. It happened to be on and I watched the beginning. I had not realised what it had become and think it was better before Fiona Bruce.

That’s missing the point however. I might not watch it or ready the Daily Mail or whatever, but millions do.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 21/02/2020 17:53

A woman on here once told about how a woman on a bus told her off for speaking foreign, when she was speaking Welsh, in Wales

Star👋🏼. That was me. My friend is welsh and I learned to speak it years ago and we both like to practice sometimes.

I also speak my native Czech sometimes at home but not in public.

I moved here at 5 years old and found it really odd that English people seem to only speak English - at that age I could speak Czech, German, Russian and French (German dad Russian for obvious reasons!).

HelgaHere1 · 21/02/2020 17:57

Britain has been made up from countless other cultures for centuries all of whom have 'successfully integrated
Not true - a handful of Hanoverians came over hundreds of year ago, otherwise it's been celts, gaels, Saxons - even more hundreds of years ago.
Many incomers now do not integrate usually for religious reasons. Jews, Muslims etc.
A country with many different beliefs / languages works if you are spread out eg USA but in the U.K. where people with different cultures , language, beliefs live next door there will be friction. People mix with others who have similar beliefs. , language, culture, Blair decided he would change that , fine if you are upper middle class like him and all the 'foreigners' you mix with are westernised and highly educated , not so easy for others.

Gilead · 21/02/2020 18:04

Helga what a lot of racist tosh.

Hoik · 21/02/2020 18:10

It’s the opening of the gates to huge numbers of Eastern Europeans that seems to have been the trigger for a resurgence in racism

The vast majority of the racism I see is detected towards people from the Middle East and anyone who is (or simply looks like they might be) Muslim.

One of the local FB resident pages was all a-flutter a few weeks ago because a "Muslim looking man" was Facetiming outside the infants school. 101 was called, someone reported that they'd contacted the school to make them aware, people were posting demanding the police instigate stop and search under anti-terror laws on anyone fitting his description, a few "lads from the bookies" did a walk around to see if they could spot him, it was shared to neighbouring villages (including our village FB page) so that people could keep an eye out. It was resolved with the PCSO for our area commented to say that they had made enquiries and the man is a parent at the school, his FIL was going to be doing pick up that day so he had Facetimed him to show him which gate to go in and where to park. If that had been a white guy Facetiming, no one would have even cared.

Our local school got some new children from a family of Syrian refugees. They didnt speak any English when they first arrived so school taught all of the kids to say some simple phrases in Arabic like "hello", "do you want to play?", "you can sit next to me", etc. to help make them feel welcome. The amount of parents whinging about it on FB including a few who made complaints to the school.

HelgaHere1 · 21/02/2020 18:12

I disagree. We are not a country made up of countless other cultures for centuries - that couldn't be further from the truth.

Hoik · 21/02/2020 18:13

We are not a country made up of countless other cultures for centuries - that couldn't be further from the truth.

Back it up with facts then. Clickable links will do.

AutumnRose1 · 21/02/2020 18:16

Helga I think I get it.

I'm not white, as I always feel I should declare on these threads, but consider myself British and nothing else.

I had a chat with a friend recently who said "how can this be happening - we grew up in a multi-cultural society and it was fine". We're both 44.

I said to him "I don't think we did grow up in a multicultural society. We grew up in a multi-ethnic society which is completely different. That was fine, but we were all Londoners".

Now I feel I am being analysed by several groups of people - suffice to say my skin colour confuses them - to see if I belong to their "culture". I hate it. I didn't have this experience in my 20s. I can only speak for London because when I go to other parts of the country I'm just visiting, but it's changed an awful lot here.

HelgaHere1 · 21/02/2020 18:16

I think this is like the transgender debate (or lack of it!) - if you don't agree that hundreds of thousands of foreigners are to be welcomed to the U.K. you are a bigoted racist. Rather than having a sensible debate agreeing there are good and bad things about increasing our population so quickly.

Gilead · 21/02/2020 18:17

We are not a country made up of countless other cultures for centuries - that couldn't be further from the truth.
So the vikings, the Normans etc never landed? No German royal family?

FrogsFrogs · 21/02/2020 18:20

Oh hello Leigh!!! What a coincidence!

Hoik · 21/02/2020 18:20

A history of immigration into Britain:

  • Romans
  • Anglo-saxons
  • Vikings
  • Normans
  • Huguenots
  • Romani
  • Indians
  • Africans
  • Russian Jews
  • Germans
  • Hungarians

By the way we're only up to approximately the mid 1950s now, long before Blair landed on the scene.
