... to think that Priti Patel doesn't sound very nice?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8022887/Home-Secretary-Priti-Patel-accused-bullying-creating-atmosphere-fear.html

Daily Mail link, but I'm listening to it on BBC Radio 5. It sounds as if Priti Patel is facing lots of complaints because of the way she treats people. Combine that with her politics, and she just doesn't come across very pleasantly. Can she last in her job treating people like this (assuming it is true).

What if PP had a mental breakdown or worse because of personal abuse?

How would we know ?

longwayoff · 26/02/2020 11:27

P P has received as much compassion and consideration on this thread as she deserves. It is far greater than she famously extends to other people.

Alsohuman · 26/02/2020 12:09

Allison Pearson is comparing her with Thatcher in today’s Telegraph. That seems fair, I detested her too. Nothing to do with race and everything to do with pushing a far right, dehumanising agenda.

longwayoff · 26/02/2020 12:47

Understandable comparison yet Thatcher was at least restrained to some extent by more moderate cabinet members, now dead, retired or booted out by this bunch of horrors. Horrifically, PP has free rein now to extend the right wing agenda as far as possible. I foresee a bring back capital punishment movement not too far away. It'll be the 'will of the people'. Hmm

apples24 · 26/02/2020 12:55

I think she will stay in her job precisely because she isn't kind and she certainly comes across very inhumane and unable to have any empathy.

Devlesko · 26/02/2020 13:12

What if PP had a mental breakdown or worse because of personal abuse?

In that case she shouldn't be in the job, have some empathy for others and not be overtly racist.
If you can't stand the heat......

Holyfork · 26/02/2020 14:56

Definitely not a fan of Priti Patel, the comments about were Ireland were vile but I don't think I'd call them racist.

Devlesko · 26/02/2020 15:56

The problem is if people voted for her and Boris, they gave them permission to do as they please.
There were other alternatives, Labour were not as racist as Priti racist Patel.

lolaflores · 26/02/2020 16:01

Shes at it again. Telling the police they need to deliver....has she delivered the 20,000 new recruits though? And the rest of the bollox trotted out by her boss?

XingMing · 26/02/2020 20:57

Give her a little time; I think police cadets spend a few months at Hendon training. She's barely had six weeks since Christmas. You can't magic your police force from nowhere.

Roussette · 27/02/2020 06:02

Say anything about Meghan Markle that isn't even mean and it's report, report, report, yet Priti Patel is fair game

MM diesn't affect my life and the people around me. PP does

Roussette · 27/02/2020 06:03

And she is a paid politician

Iggly · 28/02/2020 08:14

Story out that Priti Patel tried to sack someone on Xmas eve.

Isn’t she just lovely.

longwayoff · 28/02/2020 14:14

Let's hope Marleys's ghost has a visit planned later this year. Oh, I wish. . .

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 28/02/2020 14:19

I don't know much about this lady but not many threads are started about the niceness of male MPs. Just saying .

StarbucksSmarterSister · 28/02/2020 14:19

Reports in the Independent that she was the same when at DfID and also possibly DWP.

Let's face it, nobody of her age becomes a bully overnight so this isn't surprising.

SuckingDieselFella · 28/02/2020 14:23

Interesting that this thread is still going strong but an identical thread about Diane Abbott was removed immediately.

The same people who piled in and complained that the Diane Abbott thread was racism are the ones tearing into Priti Patel.

"Hypocrite, moi?"

DdraigGoch · 28/02/2020 14:28

The Home Office has long been notorious for being badly run. David Blunkett found them to be obstructive and resistant to change in his time there. I have no sympathy for Sir Phillip Rutnam, in the private sector incompetence loses you your job, in the public sector you get a gong and a promotion.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 28/02/2020 16:29

When John Reid was Home Secretary he famously said the HO was "not fit for purpose" and I don't think much has changed However I'd say that was a different issue to whether or not the Home Sec is a bully who has also behaved badly when at other ministries. For example have all Home Secs since Reid also been accused of bullying?

HenHarrier · 28/02/2020 16:54

Which also explains why both Patel and Williamson were sacked by May (for holding secret meetings with a foreign power and leaking information respectively) and then rehired with promotions by Johnson.

Alsohuman · 28/02/2020 16:57

I never heard that May was or Amber Rudd and Alan Johnson wouldn’t know where to start if you asked him to be a bully. Javid seems to be more bullied against than bullying.

Diane Abbott is a national joke. Thankfully she's never got her hands anywhere near the levers of power though.

XingMing · 28/02/2020 20:02

Considering that Diane Abbott has been Shadow Home Secretary for longer than any actual recent incumbents of the office, then she should if she were any good have been able to hold the soles of their feet close to the fire when it was needed (and it has been needed). But to be kind, I don't think she is in good health. Regardless, Diane Abbott appears to lack mastery of her brief, and the statistics that attend it. I heard her Woman's Hour interview in 2017. Traincrash doesn't do it justice.

HenHarrier · 28/02/2020 20:27

Traincrash doesn't do it justice.

A bit like referring to “counter terrorists” instead of “terrorists” for an entire interview?

Alsohuman · 28/02/2020 21:33

Pretty much. I was embarrassed for Diane in that interview.
