Lounging in pyjamas - disgusts me. AIBU

Hi, so just after opions. So, apart from Christmas, I really don't like my children lounging in the house in their pyjamas - it's a real bug bear or mine. So, it's half term and my SS is staying with us. My bio kids are up, fed and dressed by 8.30. SS is older so wakes at 10am (I have no problem with that) but his dad has no problem with him staying in pyjamas until after mid-day. I think it sets a lazy precedent and personally find it quite disgusting. AIBU? Bit too extreme?

Ds not day

mummydoris2006 · 20/02/2020 12:17

I love a pyjama day as it reduces the amount of ironing!

TeetotalKoala · 20/02/2020 12:17

Bloody hell. Mine are still in PJ's. It's utterly crap outside. We did a trampoline park yesterday and are going to soft play tomorrow, so today we are having a slobby movie marathon day. DS1 hates sleeping in a t-shirt so half the time wanders around in just on bottoms.

I regularly get back into PJ's when I get back from the school run in the afternoon if we've no swimming lessons. Far comfier than lounging in our jeans.

TeetotalKoala · 20/02/2020 12:18

Although, I am dressed, even if the DC aren't.

Nomorewine77 · 20/02/2020 12:19

I progress from PJ's to Loungewear ( fancy PJ's ) to mud encrusted dog walking joggers back to Loungewear to PJ's if not going out/ having visitors. I freqently do the school run in my PJ bottoms too! Kids do the same, this week has been a blissful stretch of relaxing (doing nothing)
I also use particularly pretty floral PJ bottoms as summer trousers.
My Mum would be horrified at my behaviour Grin

Ds gets dressed when it’s time to leave the house and that’s it.

Personally I don’t like sitting around in my PJs until early evening so will always get dressed but no issue with what anyone else wears

NEW OUTRAGE ALERT

Do you not iron your pjs?

Flipswhitefudge · 20/02/2020 12:24

You are depriving your children of one of the great joys in life.

NeedCoffeeNowRightNow · 20/02/2020 12:24

@Mumoflil1

I do agree with you but I am also aware we're a minority. Above all, I just cannot grasp the concept of not leaving the house. We have dogs now so have to anyway but even before, we rarely did not pop out for something. Plus, I do find my day-clothes quite comfy and can't fathom that anyone would not be comortable in theirs - surely, if you are, it is time size up?

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/02/2020 12:24

Ironing what is that lol

lilyheather1 · 20/02/2020 12:25

Yes, YABU and a bit weird to be concerned about your step son's wet dreams...

PlomBear · 20/02/2020 12:26

I’m in my PJs doing a uni assignment. I smell. Grin

bluehighlighter · 20/02/2020 12:26

I agree, OP. Lie-ins are fine, but once up you should be dressed. It's one of my almost non-existent house rules. Pyjamas are like a declaration that you're not leaving the house for any reason. And they tend to smell. Just wear comfy day clothes!

BananaChocolateLump · 20/02/2020 12:26

Why are you differentiating between your kids like that.

phoenixrosehere · 20/02/2020 12:27

YABVU

What is the point of getting dressed in proper clothes if you’re not going anywhere?

If I have no plans of leaving the house, I usually end up cleaning, doing laundry, cooking, etc.. so why would I put nice clothes on for that? Why would I want to sit around in nice clothes in my own home?

Pegsinarow · 20/02/2020 12:27

I personally loathe wearing PJs during the day because I feel I can't get on without proper practical clothing and shoes but I have animals, which involves early starts. Also, I think I would feel depressed being in PJs after about 11am.

And I do feel it's important to teach DC to be able to be up, showered, dressed, off and out in under 10 mins (dh can do it in five) when necessary, because constantly being undressed/unready can be a pita for others if they are repeatedly being kept waiting and it teaches your DC good self discipline for school/work etc.

Apart from that though, teens tend to go through a natural sloth stage, and I think it's fine to wear what you want at home, as long as relaxation doesn't descend in to depression and despond!

^^ this! I can't believe so few people noticed the OPs disgusting comment.

MotherOfLittlePeople · 20/02/2020 12:28

You wouldn't want to be in our house OP. It's half term and we have only left the house for one day! Little one has chicken pox so today is a pj day and so was yesterday

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 20/02/2020 12:29

I'm still in my pjs, one child got dressed the other hasn't bothered.
We're not lazy but it's cold, rainy, half term and not going out.
I've still done the washing and cleaning but I'm comfy in my pjs. I'm gonna take scones after lunch - in my pjs! 😁

Thefaceofboe · 20/02/2020 12:30

Calling it disgusting is a bit far OP Grin I do get dressed but I do love a pyjama day!

otterturk · 20/02/2020 12:31

YABVU for saying "take a chill pill" and calling internet strangers "mate".

How do you feel about day time only "lounge wear" as opposed to PJs someone has slept in? If I'm WFH or in on my own I usually wear some of the former but I don't stay in what I slept in, that would feel a bit grimy to me.

phoenixrosehere · 20/02/2020 12:31

I do agree with you but I am also aware we're a minority. Above all, I just cannot grasp the concept of not leaving the house.

Not that hard to grasp if you’re someone who is in and out of the house six days a week like I am and want to stay in.

SVRT19674 · 20/02/2020 12:31

I dont usually lounge around in pijamas, put on a track suit and enjoy the day. I'm in NO rush when I am not working.

aquamarine1 · 20/02/2020 12:32

Yanbu. I can't cope with it either and think a pj day is actually really depressing.

Takeonmeeeeeeeee · 20/02/2020 12:34

Im a teacher. My kids specifically asked for a PJ day. We aren't dressed. We've played scrabble, kids are playing Lego. We will probably order in Pizza, maybe some more board games and a movie. Its great to just stop sometimes.
