Lounging in pyjamas - disgusts me. AIBU

Hi, so just after opions. So, apart from Christmas, I really don't like my children lounging in the house in their pyjamas - it's a real bug bear or mine. So, it's half term and my SS is staying with us. My bio kids are up, fed and dressed by 8.30. SS is older so wakes at 10am (I have no problem with that) but his dad has no problem with him staying in pyjamas until after mid-day. I think it sets a lazy precedent and personally find it quite disgusting. AIBU? Bit too extreme?

I used to have standards but now I'm all about hanging around in my pyjamas or a tracksuit. Of course I get dressed if I go out of the front door. My 40 year old DS said I need to chill out a bit. Although admittedly my pj's are quite smart.

MintyMabel · 20/02/2020 12:36

You don't like certain clothes because they happen to be called something else?

DD wears leggings and T-shirt's. The only way to distinguish those from pyjamas are the slogans printed on them.

If you don't want to do it, then don't. But judging others for it is ridiculous.

I once had a task where I had to do a survey around our estate of an evening. Far more people were dressed in pyjamas at 7pm than weren't.

PeterPanGoesWrong · 20/02/2020 12:39

It’s half term, let your children set their own pace.
If you’ve not got to be anywhere, relax, there’s no harm being done and if your children feel relaxed it’s good for their mental health.

Pegsinarow · 20/02/2020 12:45

You see I can't clean or bake properly in PJs. I wonder if this is about the sort of house you have? Mine is old, and has hard floors. It's pretty cold too. I would rather do chores in practical clothes without sleeves in the way. And I wear an apron when cooking; I'd hate to get PJs covered in flour or oil splashes or cleaning products. Maybe I'm just messy?

theThreeofWeevils · 20/02/2020 12:46

I don't sweat at night

You're going to love the menopause, then Wink

Iwantacookie · 20/02/2020 12:48

I love my pjs and always wear them in the house.
It's my house so it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks if they dont like it they can piss off back the their own house to lounge about in their clothes.

iklboo · 20/02/2020 12:50

Above all, I just cannot grasp the concept of not leaving the house.

You can't 'grasp the concept' of someone doing something differently to you?

billy1966 · 20/02/2020 12:54

OP, brace yourself for the teenage years....my children have always had busy, sporting lives, but grab on to a PJ day like it's a raft anytime they can....that is, it could easily be after lunch before they dress.

I understand that this is a thing for them and go with it.

MintyMabel · 20/02/2020 12:55

What the hell are people doing in pyjamas that they need to be changed if worn all day?

Any wonder our environment is such a mess that people can't wear clothes for more than 12 hours.

FamilyOfAliens · 20/02/2020 12:55

You don't like certain clothes because they happen to be called something else?

Do you honestly think the only difference between nightwear and daywear is what it’s called?

Straycatstrut · 20/02/2020 12:56

We've had some early starts (activities like "fun splash" at the pool started at 10 today, half an hour away) and we wanted to be the first at the trampoline park yesterday so we arrived there before 10 and had half an hour of the entire place to ourselves! Was great Grin

I can't afford this kind of thing daily so other days we stay in and have a more lazy day and won't be dressed by near on 10. Always try and get out every day. We have a springer spaniel so no choice in it unless the storm is raging and it's dangerous!

harrietthepie · 20/02/2020 12:57

It's 1pm and I'm my pyjamas - just put a clean pair on when I got home from the supermarket. YABU.

Good ahead and carry on being judgemental, those of us who are enjoying a relaxing half term will crack on while you be as uptight as you like.

M3lon · 20/02/2020 12:57

I also get the head fog if I don't put some proper clothes on.....but I don't expect anyone else to get dressed if it doesn't affect them.

FamilyOfAliens · 20/02/2020 12:58

Those of you who like to wear your nightwear during the day - please tell me you get changed if you have visitors!

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/02/2020 13:00

If people visit, its their problem if im in my pjs.

Not that i have many visitors lol

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 20/02/2020 13:01

We've just moved. Today was the first day I've not worn PJs all day and that's because I had an appointment at the jobcentre! I've worn the same all week, cleaning old house, sorting new house, Confused been shopping in them and all sorts. also had my first shower since monday

MintyMabel · 20/02/2020 13:02

perfectly possibly to relax and lounge around at home while dressed in proper clothes.

I find most "proper clothes" really uncomfortable. Jeans in particular are bad, and bras. The few comfy "proper clothes" I have are kept for when I am going out of the house.

han01uk · 20/02/2020 13:02

Actually I am with you. My son is awake for the day around 5am,it feels unnatural to not be dressed by 3 hours later! So yes we are dressed, fed and normally out the house by 9.30 on school holidays. If he actually had a lie in I would probably be happy to still be lounging for a bit,but even then 10am is my limit for some unknown reason! 🙈

FamilyOfAliens · 20/02/2020 13:03

*If people visit, its their problem if im in my pjs

I had a feeling someone might say that.

DodgeRainClouds · 20/02/2020 13:03

I work term time only and look forward to pj days with my kids! We love it. Obviously not everyday as then they wouldn’t be so special but up and dressed by 8.30?!! My kids are up by 7am but we don’t get dressed until about 10am in the hols. Kids need down time too.

MintyMabel · 20/02/2020 13:04

If we’re at home then everyone just wears trackies

Which are exactly the same as pyjamas.

Mia1415 · 20/02/2020 13:04

I am clearly in the minority, but I agree with you. Pyjamas are for late evening/ bed/ first thing in the morning only in my house. The only exception is sickness.

ISawNessie · 20/02/2020 13:05

For me personally I don’t prefer to stay in my pjs & like to get changed etc but if my children wish to stay in theirs & relax/have a pj day I let them. They are off school & deserve chill time.

MrsGrindah · 20/02/2020 13:05

Slightly off topic but what’s the problem with wearing jeans? A PP said they found the idea fucking weird but I can’t get my head around that!
