to not know the difference between flu and a cold!

I spent the night not moving because I felt so ill, freezing cold, despite many (many!) layers, and needing a pee all night but feeling too ill to have one, despite it eventually really hurting by about 3am. I didn't sleep all night because I just felt too bad and freezing. Is this a cold?

Why can't I tell? Cold the night before, cold again tonight, feeling woozy and wobbly, cough, and pathethic!

Glad you're feeling better @usernameishistory. Chris Hemsworth can now make me toast, cup of tea and perhaps a small hug. Wink

usernameishistory · 21/02/2020 13:48

Oh good for you iklboo you enjoy that! Wink cheeky.

Show isn't serious, although even teying to be funny its a bit stupid and possibly cruel to quote ridiculous death stats, you never know who's reading.

I don't suppose it would enter their head to have consideration for others though making comments like that.

A great sentiment, be kind, lost on many sadly. Lost causes Grin

@iklboo

My Grandma died from the common cold, flu is symptomless in THREE QUARTERS of cases, I had swine flu and felt slightly sniffly. I explained this days and days ago, as did other people but still every day, people post the same old tripe about flu being diagnosable through not being able to MN and not retrieving cash from the garden. The same old untrue nonsense, nobody is reading the thread. So I posted my own made up figures. I was trying to cheer up the op and gently take the piss out of the ridiculous assertions on here.

iklboo · 21/02/2020 14:34

I'm so sorry @ShowOfHands - Chris Hemsworth hasn't been reading the threads to me properly. I'll spank him when I feel up to it Grin. Sorry he (alright, I )completely missed your tone and got snippy. I get you now!

Freddiefox · 21/02/2020 14:57

You know the ONLY way to tell if it’s flu is ..... drum roll ......if there’s a £50 note on your doorstep, well if you’re able to get up and get it it’s really just a cold and if you can’t l well then you can say it flu 😉

Hope you feel better soon Op

PotholeParadise · 21/02/2020 14:58

If you don't hallucinate blue elephants with lime green polka dots, it's not flu.

Also not a flue.

Fact.

PotholeParadise · 21/02/2020 14:59

See, a flue. If this isn't growing out of your chest, it's a cold.

to not know the difference between flu and a cold!
ShowOfHands · 21/02/2020 15:11

And if it's a floo, then it's a magical cold.

@iklboo don't apologise you dafty. Feel better soon.

usernameishistory · 21/02/2020 15:18

From this thread alone its so apparent the vast numbers that don't read threads although im not sure I'm keeping up that well

I am grateful for all the cheers I can get, as are any with any type of flu/e its so hideous (or can be).

There was comment on this recently (might have been newsnight last night, but I wander in and out of coherent attention) the myths that many grip tenaciously to despite all evidence and this thread has been such a case in point.

There was me thinking I was BU to know, turns out noone can know, not without testing, even GPs, also noted on this thread.

So, really, the AIBU vote should read 100% YANBU to not know, but the fact it isn't just shows, not only that the vote is meaningless, but also that such a large proportion of it is evidence of ignorance on the matter.

I had the flu about 6 years ago
I literally couldn’t move at all
I could just about tilt my head to be sick in a bowl
It took me 3 weeks to feel better the first 5 days were horrific

usernameishistory · 23/02/2020 11:20

That sounds like an awful cold @Christmashope19

usernameishistory · 23/02/2020 11:20

Or maybe gastritis actually

My husband called the dr in as i couldn’t stand
He diagnosed the flu

Mistigri · 23/02/2020 11:27

Not all flu is very serious, there is a range of severity of symptoms depending on age, prior medical history, strain of the virus, immune response etc.

People think flu is always terrible because by and large it's only diagnosed (or self-diagnosed) when people feel really ill.

Christmashope19 · 23/02/2020 11:40

I pretty much think if you are able to pick up your phone and post about it then you don’t have the flu!

iklboo · 23/02/2020 12:54

Can we please have a 'banging your head against a brick sodding wall' emoticon?

iklboo · 23/02/2020 12:54

I pretty much think if you are able to pick up your phone and post about it then you don’t have the flu!

Is this the new 'cancel the cheque'?

BunsyGirl · 23/02/2020 13:13

What one person can do with flu is not necessarily the same as another. As a teenager with flu, I dragged myself out of bed to dance in a pantomime - didn’t want to let anyone down. To be fair, it wasn’t my brightest hour as I collapsed after coming off stage and had to take two further weeks off school. However, I could have got out of bed to get £1million from the doorstep or whatever other ridiculous examples have been given in this thread.

usernameishistory · 23/02/2020 14:05

I assume you haven't read the thread/facts either then @Christmashope19 Grin

Unless GP tested you s/he has no way of knowing, properly!

OP posts:
usernameishistory · 23/02/2020 14:07

Ha ha iklboo Grin

It is absolutely hilarious isn't it! How w are we to ever move forward with such staid attitudes in such plentiful supply!

OP posts:
usernameishistory · 23/02/2020 14:09

Although its encouraging that there is some sense out there as the vote has gone from 100% to 51 now.

OP posts:
Christmashope19 · 23/02/2020 14:13

I was indeed tested
I can’t actually remember the type of flu I had but i remember it had a letter and possibly a number after it
