to not know the difference between flu and a cold!

I spent the night not moving because I felt so ill, freezing cold, despite many (many!) layers, and needing a pee all night but feeling too ill to have one, despite it eventually really hurting by about 3am. I didn't sleep all night because I just felt too bad and freezing. Is this a cold?

Why can't I tell? Cold the night before, cold again tonight, feeling woozy and wobbly, cough, and pathethic!

The other thing about Japan is everyone tries to wear masks during flu season. These not really stop you getting flu or colds but it does stop those who are infected from spraying germs on each other. So even though i do not have the flu or a cold during flu season i wear a mask in crowded places. If i was not showing any symptoms i would nt be spraying germs all over. Once you get used to wearing them they are quite nice esp during allergy season!

Whyamiwastingtime · 24/02/2020 23:47

sorry even If i was not showing any symptoms i would nt be spraying germs all over.

I knew when I had flu. I remember thinking, ‘people die from flu’. I fainted, I cried, I couldn’t move out of bed.
I’ve had horrible colds, which made me feel really grim for a few days, but flu is a level up.

usernameishistory · 25/02/2020 00:07

It certainly is scrambled and continues to be so Grin

OP, all anyone has tried to do is help you. Why ask if you are going to be rude and condescending to people are encourage and excuse others from rudeness too?

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 25/02/2020 11:12

I apologise if someone's said this already, but flu is the "£50 rule". If there's £50 at the bottom of your garden and there is no chance whatsoever of you going to get it because you feel so awful, then it's flu.

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 25/02/2020 11:13

You'll know when you've had the Flu.

BiBiBirdie · 25/02/2020 13:58

@Didthatreallyhappen2 wait for the abuse you will now get for daring to try and help out the OP.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 25/02/2020 14:07

Oh heck - I haven't read all of the thread and was only responding to the initial post - thanks for the heads up. I'll go and sit in a darkened corner … :)

BiBiBirdie · 25/02/2020 14:10

I would @Didthatreallyhappen2. Although one of the goady lot on here has done a flounce thread so you may be safe.

itsgettingweird · 25/02/2020 17:20

I always presume my cold is a cold!

That is because I get the flu jab and so does ds. He gets it as he has neuro condition and I get it as his main (and only!) carer.

But I guess that assumption is based on the fact the jab vaccinated against all flu around that year!

My parents also both have had it for last 3 years because mum has cancer and now dad has it so he gets it in his own right rather than as mums carer!

sonicshoegazes · 25/02/2020 17:35

If it was flu you wouldn't be able to post. I've only had it once and apparently I was delirious.

usernameishistory · 25/02/2020 19:16

I am finding it a bit funny that all those posting that haven't bothered to read the thread, yet post repeatedly, and now as it turns out goady, responses, that either 'youd know' or 'youd not be able to post' or 'youd ignore a million on the lawn'
don't even bother to offer any wishes ...considering I've got flu an all, instead post unhelpful untruthful stuff, then accuse me of being, what was it 'condescending' and similar nasty accusations Hmm

Thanks. Helpful. Not. But then you knew that

OP posts:
BiBiBirdie · 25/02/2020 19:37

Flu.
Yes op
Yet still on MN
Will you be joining M3lon in a pity flounce then?

usernameishistory · 25/02/2020 19:38

Sorry Birdie

Are you ok? Whats your issue?

OP posts:
usernameishistory · 25/02/2020 19:39

Why so nasty?

OP posts:
BiBiBirdie · 25/02/2020 20:14

I thought since you were quite happy to post the way you did, I would return it back to you. No doubt you'll pull a M3lon and have it removed.
How tiresome.

PotholeParadise · 25/02/2020 22:42

BiBiBirdie

If you're embarrassed about posting without reading the thread, just namechange. Digging the hole deeper by attacking the (ill!) OP won't help.

usernameishistory · 26/02/2020 00:03

Shag off being a dick to someone whos ill. I have no idea what the crap you are on about.

You obviously got issues.

OP posts:
BiBiBirdie · 26/02/2020 07:39

No not embarrassed in the slightest. OP was rude to myself and others who attempted to help and encouraged a moron like M3lon to join in who has now made a huge gesture of flouncing.
Oh and op, I've had flu, and I certainly didn't dick around on social media.

Christmashope19 · 26/02/2020 07:55

Totally agree with Birdie
Op can give out abuse but doesn’t like it when you question her
Op just to reiterate you DONT have the flu

BiBiBirdie · 26/02/2020 08:36

Glad it's not just me @Christmashope19

louderthan1 · 26/02/2020 08:44

Thing is there's all sorts of weird viruses knocking around at the moment that aren't flu or a cold but can knock you out for a good week or so. It's not either/or! Feel better soon everyone!

AlternativePerspective · 26/02/2020 08:49

Oh is this the thread that “bye Mumsnet” flounce post was about? I did wonder.

BiBiBirdie · 26/02/2020 09:46

It is @AlternativePerspective
I'm wondering if OP will pity flounce next for having their blatant rudeness pointed out to them.
