...to think a hot cross bun is a snack?

I just love them. Buttered and sandwiched back together or toasted and buttered. In place of a cookie/crisps/slice of cake as a snack. DH thinks they’re a sandwich alternative and should be filled with cheese or jam and eaten with crisps/fruit etc as part of a meal.

Toasted, for breakfast.

Your husband must have no taste buds. Does he make sandwiches out of iced buns, sweet muffins and Danish pastries too?

Kwkwjwkek · 16/02/2020 21:59

I just had one now as a snack haha. The M&S Brantley apples ones are amazing!

MissKittyCat · 16/02/2020 22:00

Not hot cross buns, but my Dad used to make sandwiches of fruit tea cakes filled with cheese and jam (together). We would have them as a packed lunch with a flask of coffee for a day out. Happy days.

’ DH thinks they’re a sandwich alternative and should be filled with cheese or jam’

Shock The man's lost the plot! Hot Cross Buns are more like scones than they are anything else. Jam I can just about understand but CHEESE - he's doing it wrong!

SecondRatePony · 16/02/2020 22:01

Bloody hell, OP. You've married a monster Shock

Marmalady75 · 16/02/2020 22:02

Did you know he was a weirdo when you married him??? WinkSmile

lottiegarbanzo · 16/02/2020 22:03

Thing is though, fruit cake and cheese is a classic combo,

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 16/02/2020 22:04

Agree. LTB. He's sub-human. Cheese? What is wrong with him?

Incidentally I'm just about to have an M&S blueberry Hot Cross Bun as a snack. They taste and smell superb. I also like their Salted Caramel ones but the Blueberry are my favourites now. I wouldn't give you a thank you for their Bramley Apple ones though.

NewYearNewTwatName · 16/02/2020 22:05

they are a snack.

They are best toasted then buttered and mature cheddar on top.

But then I also love Christmas cake and other fruit cakes with cheese too. Stilton is my favourite with Christmas cake.

villainousbroodmare · 16/02/2020 22:06

Snack, toasted, with butter but I have to peel off that awful chewy tasteless cross.

Fralla · 16/02/2020 22:07

Snack? Wtf? They’re breakfast, surely?

TatianaLarina · 16/02/2020 22:08

A bun for breakfast? With cheese topping? Are you all mad?

(OP DH needs a word).

RoseMartha · 16/02/2020 22:08

I like warm ones with no butter.

I would have them instead of a sandwich.

Imonlymoominafterall · 16/02/2020 22:12

A couple toasted with plenty of butter, and then maybe crisps for afters.
Now you're talking. But those M&S chilli and cheese ones are a travesty. Played havoc with my bowels as well.

PiafPilaf · 16/02/2020 22:14

Cheese???? No no no no! Aldi chocolate fudge hot cross buns are THE BEST but normal ones should be eaten with butter, preferably toasted.

lottiegarbanzo · 16/02/2020 22:14

I can only conclude that the demise of afternoon tea has left people stranded, with only the sad little term 'snack' to cling helplessly on to.

MadamePewter · 16/02/2020 22:15

Your DH is weird!!

CasperGutman · 16/02/2020 22:15

Would he have a toasted teacake with cheese in it and crisps on the side? Weirdo.

Comefromaway · 16/02/2020 22:16

I don’t like them but you’d eat them in the same way as you’d eat a scone. Maybe mid morning or afternoon tea.

Palavah · 16/02/2020 22:18

They are delicious with extra mature cheddar on! Or just toasted with butter melting through. Or plain and not even sliced, eaten like a soft funny shaped apple.

SallySun123 · 16/02/2020 22:19

Cheese in a hot cross bun! Is this some kind of sick joke?!

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/02/2020 22:20

What kind of fucked up childhood led him to believe that 🤔.

Try the Iceland own brand ones warmed in a low oven, no palm oil do there’s no clagginess in your mouth.

MeanwhileAtNumber98 · 16/02/2020 22:21

My dad puts cheese in a hot cross bun, makes no sense to me.

AmelieTaylor · 16/02/2020 22:21

@MerryDeath. Cop on! If you were making me toasted hot cross buns I’d wake you at 5:30 every morning too!

Water, at most Gruel, until a social hour if you want him to stop waking you up!

Hopefulhen · 16/02/2020 22:21

They’re actually delicious with Philadelphia style cream cheese! takes cover
