...to think a hot cross bun is a snack?

I just love them. Buttered and sandwiched back together or toasted and buttered. In place of a cookie/crisps/slice of cake as a snack. DH thinks they’re a sandwich alternative and should be filled with cheese or jam and eaten with crisps/fruit etc as part of a meal.

Cheese wtf

Lurpack. Breakfast.

Elletine · 16/02/2020 21:20

Waitrose are doing sticky toffee ones. They are revoltingly good.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 16/02/2020 21:22

Sandwich alternative???!!!! Ltb!! Two toasted and buttered is breakfast though.

thenightsky · 16/02/2020 21:24

Hot cross buns, toasted, buttered... mid-morning with cup of coffee or tea or 4pm with tea. A seasonal extra, not a meal.

Stravapalava · 16/02/2020 21:25

I'd have one for breakfast, or as afternoon tea, but not as lunch or dinner (unless I was on my own or feeling lazy!)

Has anyone tried an apple HCB with the bonne maman salted caramel spread? Absolutely lovely.

Noooo! He has it all wrong!! Have you told him that? They have to be toasted and buttered. Nothing else. That is compulsory.

You can't put cheese on them. What a travesty!!

mrsbyers · 16/02/2020 21:26

Make a nice bacon sarnie

Fizzypoo · 16/02/2020 21:27

Toasted and with butter for breakfast or a snack around 3pm.

They are nice toasted with cheese in the middle, like a PP said it's not dissimilar to jamaican bun and cheese.

RedHelenB · 16/02/2020 21:28

Definitely good with cheese, preferably Wensleydale. Yabu to only ever have temperature plain with butter.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 16/02/2020 21:30

YABU.

A pack is a snack. With lots of butter.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/02/2020 21:33

Toasted with crunchy peanut butter is my favourite. My DP doesn’t like them at all, which is good, because generally no snack is safe in this house.

MissClareRemembers · 16/02/2020 21:35

Cheese??! CHEESE???!!!

The man is a maniac.

Goldenbear · 16/02/2020 21:36

It is definitely a snack but not one for breakfast - too sweet! I would have one if I'd missed lunch about 4 but cold as a bun, definitely not toasted and no butter. I don't see the point in toasting them, I think it's a waste and you might as well have a teacake. They need to be fresh if you are not going to toast them.

Redcrayons · 16/02/2020 21:40

And you married this man why?

Toasted with artery-hardening amount of butter is the only way.

NaturalBornWoman · 16/02/2020 21:45

I had the M&S chilli and cheese ones as sandwiches twice for lunch last week. Otherwise no, they are not a sandwich alternative.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 16/02/2020 21:46

I worked overseas for many years and it was traditional to eat a hot cross bun with a cod fish cake in the middle. Lovely. On Good Friday while flying kites.

MotherofTerriers · 16/02/2020 21:47

They are breakfast. 2 of them, toasted and buttered

BabbleBee · 16/02/2020 21:48

One is a snack. A packet is almost a meal...

MerryDeath · 16/02/2020 21:50

mmm lovely. i'll eat them any way tbh (as a snack obv!) but at the moment it's my pre- breakfast of choice for DS and i when he gets me up at 0530 every fecking morning 🤪 lots of butter required. he likes his whole and cold, monster.

Rose789 · 16/02/2020 21:53

Breakfast or a snack over easter. Toasted with lurpack occasionally with jam.
Dh has them untoasted with a slice of cheese in the middle- at any time of the year. The man is a heathen.

MrsKoala · 16/02/2020 21:54

If they are toasted I eat them just with butter for breakfast but if it's lunch time I have them untoasted with lots of butter and with thick slices of a really strong cheddar just like a sandwich.

I know 2 other people who have them with cheese too. I didn't think it was that unusual. Never jam tho. Yuck.

DailyKegelReminder · 16/02/2020 21:54

I'm a straight out the pack, straight in to mouth type. I know, grim.

But they are nice with cheese, when I CBA. I would say a snack.

Bluebutterfly90 · 16/02/2020 21:54

They're a snack, not a sandwich alternative.

Also, am I the only one who eats them whole and not toasted? Confused

I mean, they're nice toasted and buttered but I also enjoy them just as a regular bun.

lollybee1 · 16/02/2020 21:55

Cheese is lovely on a HXB. Really strong cheddar

MrsKoala · 16/02/2020 21:56

My son has one toasted and buttered for breakfast every single day of the year.
