AIBU WHEN I SAY DYSON ARE S**T. I HAVE 3 IN TOTAL AND NONE WORK ON THICK PLUSH CARPETS

Posting here for traffic really. Sorry 😚. I have 3 different DYSON cleaners and none of them work on my newer deep pile thicker/softer carpets. It's ridiculous DYSON aren't cheap but they are vacuum cleaners so I should be able to physically be able to vacuum a carpet 😫🤦‍♀️. I have one of the uprights that has a big ball thing at the bottom to move around but that just sticks to my lounge carpet like glue and I physically cannot move it let alone the fact it will damage the carpet. It's ok on my hallway carpets that aren't as thick and deep. The other 2 I have are the the cordless that you charge on the wall. The newer one which cost about £500 will often start making a funny noise and flashing the filter even when there is nothing in the damn thing or when it's partly full 🤬. Does anyone have one that actually works on deep plush carpets and can recommend pretty please ☺️.

We've had a dyson for 20yrs- literally!!! Its still works fine. We had to replace a small part of plastic when it snapped, but otherwise had no issues- even with a deep pile carpet in the bedrooms.

From a previous poll about vacuums, it seems that the original dysons lasted years, whereas the newer ones only last a few years. Lots of people recommended shark brand, but I've never used one. That was a poll for vacuums in general, not specifically for deep pile ones.

TheNoiseHurts · 15/02/2020 12:00

Surely it has settings whether it's thick carpet or tiles?

I have thick carpets and a Miele and it's fine. It doesn't glide as easily as it does on thinner carpets but it does the job

Stickybeaksid · 15/02/2020 12:04

For carpets and rugs you need to use the lower power setting. That’s what the dyson man told me when he serviced ours this year.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/02/2020 12:07

I love mine but ….. I live alone (not much traffic through the house) and have no carpets.

pinyinchahua · 15/02/2020 12:11

I’ve got a Vax that I adore - works really well on our thicker rugs.

Likethebattle · 15/02/2020 12:12

Yeah my dyson is impossible to move in the thick carpets I have. Glides brilliantly on not so thick. Husband has to hoover the lounge as it hurts my back trying to move it.

Malbecfan · 15/02/2020 12:13

They are shit. The local repair man loves them - they keep him in business as they keep conking out. My Henry on the other hand is brilliant and about to enter his 30th year of faithful service

20viona · 15/02/2020 12:14

My dyson v8 cordless works perfectly on my new thick pile carpet Hmm

Marmite27 · 15/02/2020 12:16

I completely agree and I have wooden floors. I ditched mine for a Henry hoover

Wanderlustnearorfar · 15/02/2020 12:27

Absolutely agree I have a karcher and it is the best Hoover I’ve had

Thehop · 15/02/2020 12:28

They are shit. I couldn’t afford a Miele so bought a shark and it’s still amazing 3 years on.

Bipbipbipbip · 15/02/2020 12:32

No need to shout OP.

I love my Dyson. I'm not sure why you would keep buying products from a maker if you believe them to be shit.

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/02/2020 12:42

We bought our Dyson in 1997 and it is still going strong. Never been near a repair man.

Welshmaenad · 15/02/2020 12:47

YANBU, they're fucking awful.

I recently got a Shark and it changed my life. My LIFE I tell you.

PinkCrayon · 15/02/2020 12:49

Yes they are shit. Yanbu

katy1213 · 15/02/2020 12:52

Local repair shop is packed with them. Man there says they're rubbish; he loves them, obviously, as bring in so much business.

Abraid2 · 15/02/2020 12:53

My Dyson works on thick pile.

Screamqueenz · 15/02/2020 12:56

Dyson are shocking, our shark on the other hand is amazing, DH loves it!

mummymayhem18 · 15/02/2020 12:57

I have 3 because I keep one for upstairs as lugging the big heavy upright was killing my back. Also we have had our bedrooms and living room done since last year and the carpets are thicker more luxurious ones and you just can't move an upright on it. It only has a setting on the brush on floor which says min/max and I have tried it on both and it doesn't change it. My upright is about 7/8 years old though but we didn't have such thick carpets before. Thanks everyone for your replies. Appreciate you taking the time ☺️.

sorry but this made me really laugh!! An Op is asking how to vacuum plush carpets!!!

GrockleRock · 15/02/2020 13:08

Shark it.

DidgeDoolittle · 15/02/2020 13:09

I binned my dyson as it kept breaking and it was costing me a fortune.
I now have a cordless Shark and it is fantastic. I love it. I have thick carpets, wooden floors and thin carpets. I also have a cat and dog that leave hair all over the place. The shark copes with all this and is completely effortless.

TheDeadLadyOfClownTown · 15/02/2020 13:11

Hate Dysons. So heavy! No suction.

LellyMcKelly · 15/02/2020 13:12

It was fine when it worked, but it was a delicate little flower and needed poking and sorting almost every time it was used. Got a Shark. Could not believe what came out of the carpet. Totally beasts the Dyson.
