AIBU WHEN I SAY DYSON ARE S**T. I HAVE 3 IN TOTAL AND NONE WORK ON THICK PLUSH CARPETS

Posting here for traffic really. Sorry 😚. I have 3 different DYSON cleaners and none of them work on my newer deep pile thicker/softer carpets. It's ridiculous DYSON aren't cheap but they are vacuum cleaners so I should be able to physically be able to vacuum a carpet 😫🤦‍♀️. I have one of the uprights that has a big ball thing at the bottom to move around but that just sticks to my lounge carpet like glue and I physically cannot move it let alone the fact it will damage the carpet. It's ok on my hallway carpets that aren't as thick and deep. The other 2 I have are the the cordless that you charge on the wall. The newer one which cost about £500 will often start making a funny noise and flashing the filter even when there is nothing in the damn thing or when it's partly full 🤬. Does anyone have one that actually works on deep plush carpets and can recommend pretty please ☺️.

They aren't cheap to replace either are they because for a good branded one you are looking £200 +,more for Dyson,Shark etc. We had a couple of Hoover branded ones years ago before we moved house but they kept breaking down. My mum gave us £200 for Christmas one year and we thought we would put towards a Dyson. Back then it worked well but we didn't have deep carpets so I think that helped.

My dyson has been amazing ever since I replaced the filter with cheapies from amazon. I don’t know why but the performance and reliability has been much better. It’s worth a try!

glittercandle · 15/02/2020 23:14

I don’t like Dyson or Shark - neither work that well.

I love my Henry! It works so well. When I bought some new thick carpets I had to buy a new head (a rotary brush) and it now works great on them too.

Bridgetspants · 16/02/2020 06:49

As another PP asked, if you weren’t happy with Dyson, why did you get another one?

Sebo here. Never anything else.

Afterthestorm65 · 16/02/2020 07:00

I still resent the waste of money our Dyson was (I was taken in by the clever marketing). We replaced it with a trouble free and seemingly indestructible Sebo years ago. I’ve never seen any Sebo marketing.

Hated my cordless Dyson "pet" vacuum. Didn't pick up anything, clogged at the slightest bit of hair and ran out of battery much quicker that it should have done. Got a shark now and it's like having new carpets! Amazing

Hagbeth · 16/02/2020 07:12

I have a Sebo Felix which is fantastic. There’s a dial where you change the brush height for floor type or turn it off completely.
If. I did lots of research and even went to John Lewis to try it out before purchasing. I had a Miele canister before but hair always got trapped (human long hair) in the brush and it wa very hard to clear out. The Felix allows you to push the whole brush out from the side and easily clean it. You can also buy a replacement brush or even a softer brush for delicate/ deep carpets.

We needed to replace our Miele which we had had for 20 years. The Which report suggested the miele c3 powerline and am really happy with it. The power adjusts depending on the surface you are vacuuming. Can't fault it. Price wise i was able to buy it from Robert dyas for £170 so no comparison vs Dyson and shark.

wonderstuff · 16/02/2020 07:21

I was struggling with our sebo on our new thick carpets, so we got a roomba, love it. Still need to do the stairs and edges from time to time, but generally its very low effort.

Showmeyourhero · 16/02/2020 07:23

YES! I hate mine 😤 DH bought ours as a treat and it is the worst Hoover we've ever had!

TooGood2BeTrue · 16/02/2020 07:26

We have a cordless Dyson because my husband loves them for some reason unfortunately. It doesn't hold its charge for long, is hard to empty (it is stuck when you try and open it) and needs constant cleaning. We used to have a Philipps before, which was so much better...

Newmetoday · 16/02/2020 07:27

I have 2 Dysons and they work on mine. You just put it to the lower setting. I love them. Had a Shark as well. Utter garbage

MrsMozartMkII · 16/02/2020 07:36

If you have animals just don't swap it for a Miele Cat & Dog! It's rubbish on a decent carpet. I have to do the shoe-rub-thing to get the hairs up before hoovering. When it does deign to pick any of them up I'm then chopping them off the roller every few minutes.

mummymayhem18 · 16/02/2020 15:01

@Bridgetspants as I said in a previous reply I bought one to keep upstairs and also that I only got my thicker carpets a year ago when I already had the vacuums. My other carpets aren't as deep pile. My new carpets in my bedroom and living room are really thick and your fingers just disappear about a centimetre into the pile.Very soft.

I think I will pop into my John Lewis and see what they have for me to try out. With the offcuts of my thick carpets I had mats made so will take one with me to try the vacuums on. From memory though my store doesn't have that many and a lot are Dyson 👎😂
