3 youths. Felt intimidated.

Hanging around outside local restaurant and off licence. Opposite a couple of pubs. They look intimidating. Hoodies up. Drinking cans. They look about 15 so could be younger or older. Smoking. We were worried walking past them to get to our restaurant booking. Thought they might just be waiting for a taxi or friend though so ignored it. Even more worried walking back past them as they were still there when we came out. They didn't approach us or do anything to us. This was a dispersal zone and may well still be. I'm worried they might be waiting for somebody specific. AIBU to ignore it. They're more likely harmless and trying to look tough.

*Oh my God OP I hope you are ok.

Who will play you in the movie?*

@morgan12 😂 I bloody love that!! Totally pinching it for the future

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 15/02/2020 09:30

They didn't approach us or do anything to us.. Original post

Drip drip drip, are you flouncing as nobody agrees with you Grin

iklboo · 15/02/2020 09:34

Did you cross into a parallel universe halfway through this thread where something completely different happened?

IJustCantDeal · 15/02/2020 10:08

You voted conservative (it’s blatant) but wonder why teenagers have nothing better to do than hang outside a shop “intimidating” you. Biggest laugh of all you don’t know whether to report said none sense to the nonexistent police force

Thymelord · 15/02/2020 10:18

I was tempted to ring 101 this morning and make a LOG. I wore my daughters hoody. It's by a popular YouTuber. Some forrin looking yoofs pointed and laughed, and AND made a smart remark. Clearly intimating that people who are 40 should not be wearing hoodies by popular YouTubers. I was triggered. I really could use a handhold.

My daughter said well what do you expect wearing that at your age. So I was victim blamed too.

PixieDustt · 15/02/2020 11:03

There's nothing to report OP.

A lot of sarcastic comments though.. give the woman a break.

icedgem85 · 15/02/2020 11:12

How ridiculous are you!? So you saw some kids... WITH HOODS UP on a cold day. Wow. You’re only getting a mix of YABU and YANBU because people can’t be bothered to read to the end of your post and clearly think you’re unreasonable for even considering the kids intimidating and being worried. SMH.

Aibuto · 15/02/2020 11:15

Have you had a bad experience before OP?

CaptainButtock · 15/02/2020 11:23

'Looking around' Oh man Grin

Louisaweezer · 15/02/2020 11:26

Watch out OP, I heard they can smell fear

FloraGreysteel · 15/02/2020 11:27

Christ... is this for real?

LakieLady · 15/02/2020 11:28

You should namechange OP. I don't think "Dripfeed'n'Flounce" has been taken.

They're teenagers, OP, just hanging around is mostly what they do. It's been that way all my life, and it was the 1960's when I was a teen.

No self-respecting teen wants to hang out at home with their mates, where parents will cramp their style, and few teenagers have rooms big enough to accommodate more than a couple of mates. In a lot of areas, they simply don't have anywhere else to go where they can just hang out, or if there is somewhere, it's often expensive.

My mate used to live in a village where the teenagers' gathering point was a phone box. There'd be a group of 15 or so there most evenings, they'd cycle in from across the whole parish. All they did was laugh and muck about, really.

The80sweregreat · 15/02/2020 11:36

Your being flamed here a bit , but I must admit I become apprehensive when I see gangs of youngsters together in town at night or even out shopping. I know that nothing will happen but being on your guard isn't any bad thing and since the smoking ban you see more of it too as people have to stand outside pubs etc to have a smoke. My nearest big town can be intimidating at times and I've had all sorts come up to me asking for money : it is worrying as you're never sure if they could have a knife. I do give money or hot drinks to the homeless but the ones that approach you directly can be menacing and a few seem to have mental health problems , which is sad. They are also in a certain amount of danger of others taking offence or being abusive to them as well so there could be a problem looming there and I've seen it happen.
I think you become more paranoid as you get older and things like this can seem worse than it actually is. They are probably harmless to be fair, but I cant help feeling worried when I see big gangs of people hanging around. I tend to put my head down and keep on walking even though I know that nothing will happen especially past pubs or clubs!

IsAnybodyListening · 15/02/2020 11:41

Honestly?!

My DS15 has had the local PCSO round before, after someone reported him and his friends 'Looking suspicious as they were loitering near the boundary of someones home'

They were, in fact, 'Loitering' by a patch of grass chatting. They were doing nothing more. However, they are all near 6 feet tall, and have their hoodies as is the trend. We also live in a remote village, where there is nothing for them to do.

I really feel for these young lads getting stigma for how they look.

iklboo · 15/02/2020 12:02

I cant help feeling worried when I see big gangs of people hanging around

It was three youths. Hardly the Sharks & the Jets.

Bikerider2020 · 15/02/2020 12:08

but I must admit I become apprehensive when I see gangs of youngsters together in town at night or even out shopping.

It was 3, for goodness sake what are teens supposed to do, always be alone? What exactly are you worried about?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/02/2020 12:20

You'd hate living in my block of flats OP. There are youths hanging around everywhere.

Truth is most of them are just gobshites. They try and intimidate people because they know they can. If they're anything like the ones where I live they shit themselves when an adult confronts them if they're behaving anti socially.

DessertQueen · 15/02/2020 12:25

I think I voted the wrong way. I pressed YABU because you were intimidated by the fact you had to walk past 3 people.. not because they need reporting for standing/sitting where you didn’t like them being.

woooooo · 15/02/2020 12:26

Is this a real post?
Try showing me a 15 year old who doesn't wear dark clothe/hoodies 🤷‍♀️ yes they could be up to something. Or maybe they weren't 🤦🏼‍♀️

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/02/2020 12:33

Stop the front page, teens in hoods whatever next Ganster grannies.

lasttimeIplaythetartforUJerry · 15/02/2020 12:36

WalkingDeadTrainee · 15/02/2020 12:43

3 youths. Felt intimidated.
Superlooper · 15/02/2020 14:23

Presume they were drinking alcohol? Possibly purchased at the off licence? If they were in Ireland, that is illegal and the off licence should have reported them to the police. I don't think you were unreasonable to feel apprehensive.

ToastyFingers · 15/02/2020 15:58

I had to report a bunch of 'youths' to 111 a few weeks ago. The difference is, there were roughly 50 of them and they were kicking balls at cars and hop windows. Parts of the balcony upstairs from our shop had fallen down, and I didn't feel comfortable asking 40 odd lads all at least 6 inches taller than me to move on.
3 kids waiting peacefully is no issue at all.
