Hanging around outside local restaurant and off licence. Opposite a couple of pubs. They look intimidating. Hoodies up. Drinking cans. They look about 15 so could be younger or older. Smoking. We were worried walking past them to get to our restaurant booking. Thought they might just be waiting for a taxi or friend though so ignored it. Even more worried walking back past them as they were still there when we came out. They didn't approach us or do anything to us. This was a dispersal zone and may well still be. I'm worried they might be waiting for somebody specific. AIBU to ignore it. They're more likely harmless and trying to look tough.

We need a diagram

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 14/02/2020 22:33

@TrixieTheWhore - speak for yourself. I never wore a hoodie when I was loitering and drinking.

kittykatkitty · 14/02/2020 22:33

You not go out much op?

Back in the real world....

85notout · 14/02/2020 22:33

Never mind op, get your pipe and slippers and settle down with your mug of cocoa, it's getting late for you.

ElmStreet · 14/02/2020 22:34

So their crime is... being teenagers? The staccato punctuation in your post is wonderfully dramatic, I'm a fan.

user32564567 · 14/02/2020 22:36

So, nothing happened then?

DanielRicciardosSmile · 14/02/2020 22:37

Best ring 999 and get them to send out armed police and a dog unit, just to be safe.

Herbalteahippie · 14/02/2020 22:38

YABU they’re just kids! They probably have bad homes and need to escape for all we know. They have every right to be there! What’s your problem?

DanielRicciardosSmile · 14/02/2020 22:40

@TrixieTheWhore I don't think hoodies were a thing when I was young, it was more shell suits and bum bags. Though I'm proud to say I never owned a shell suit. Cant say the same about the bum bag though (or the loitering, we used to sit on a railing outside the post office).

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 14/02/2020 22:41

They probably have bad homes and need to escape Confused

Or they're just teenagers hanging out with their mates

DNR · 14/02/2020 22:44

Wow! Why not to bother with social media! No. Nothing against teenagers. Have three of my own. You can tell if someone is deliberately trying to intimidate you and they were. They didn't say anything to us but threw something across the road in front of us , came right up close and ran across the road to stop the car. Probably just high jinks but mumset can be sooo nasty. No, not a naice area. Quite a few stabbings and a lot of drug problems. Bye mumsnet. You clearly wont miss me.

Oh my God OP I hope you are ok.

Who will play you in the movie?

thenightsky · 14/02/2020 22:46

What is a 'dispersal zone'? Confused

babynamehelp1 · 14/02/2020 22:50

Bye OP. And no, we won’t miss you

TooTrueToBeGood · 14/02/2020 22:51

Hands up if you sometimes wore a hoodie and loitered drinking tins in public as a teenager.

Sadly not. In my day, hoods only came as part of an anorak which was so uncool freezing your tits off without one was much preferred. I envy the youth of today with their warm but trendy outerwear.

Pardonwhat · 14/02/2020 22:52

DNR

You: AIBU?
Literally EVERYBODY: Yes
You: BUT IM NOT BECAUSE HERE IS A NONSENSICAL DRIP FEED. IM GOING. SCREW YOU ALL.

Have a wine and chill.

Papergirl1968 · 14/02/2020 22:53

Nightsky the police can direct anyone who has committed ASB or they believe is likely to commit ASB to leave that immediate area for up to 48 hours, and confiscated alcohol from them.

To be fair, you didn't mention any of that in your OP.

Funny how you never mentioned any of that in your OP. There's dripfeeding and then there's blatantly making shit up. BTW, nice flounce.

Wauden · 14/02/2020 22:55

Just walk on by, avoid eye contact.

LoveNote · 14/02/2020 22:55

drip drip drip

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 14/02/2020 22:57

They didn't approach us or do anything to us original post

They didn't say anything to us but threw something across the road in front of us , came right up close and ran across the road to stop the car Made up thing that didn't happen because nobody agreed with you 😂

lpchill · 14/02/2020 22:59

If you felt that they where underage do report it to 111. If it was in our areas we work that information gets fed to our outreach team for us to follow up on. It's good for us to know where young people are. We are trained to approach and provide youth work/ report higher if necessary

sweeneytoddsrazor · 14/02/2020 23:03

Stop what car??

recklessruby · 14/02/2020 23:05

Fgs I haven't got teenagers anymore but I feel sorry for them. Mine used to meet IN BIG GROUPS (as we did in the 80s) and there may have been the odd bit of drinking and smoking but no one was out to intimidate anyone.
It s called chilling with your mates and you dont notice most other people.
