To think it’s weird to call your kid your valentine?

Getting DP a card in Clinton’s today & they had valentines cards ‘to daddy’... I'm sure there were mummy ones too I didn’t look.

Also seen friends on social media calling there kids their valentine.

I dunno, is it weird? Obviously I love my kids, more than anyone... but isn’t Valentine’s Day a romantic love thing? I don’t remember noticing this before!!

& yes people can do what they want, no I’m not effected by it. Yes I have bigger problems 😂

But as a general observation, AIBU?

I thought you meant as in naming your child Valentine- I was thinking it's not a bad name! Grin

No it's not weird.

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 14/02/2020 20:41

I find it deeply strange! Valentine’s Day is about romantic love.

Valentines Day is whatever you want it to be.

Bluntness100 · 14/02/2020 20:46

I got up this morning and what's apped by 22 year old daughter a valentine gif.

She texted back with morning and love you mum. I've sent her a valentine basically every year since she was a toddler.

Colour me weird, and her. 🤣

PennyGold · 14/02/2020 20:46

I can't understand why people get so worked up about this.
I see Valentine's Day as sharing it with people you care about.
However, if you don't agree, that's fine! But I feel like people are overly invested in other people's opinions about this?
Ignore, and move on.

user32564567 · 14/02/2020 20:47

I like your kind of weird, Bluntness.

AuntieStella · 14/02/2020 20:48

It's about romantic love, so I find it weird.

Sparklesocks · 14/02/2020 20:49

Well it’s probably a way for Clinton’s et al to sell more cards - a wider net if you choose to get cards for more than just romantic love partners. But equally if people do call their kids their valentine I’m not that fussed, people can do what they like. The bus driver can be your valentine if that works for you!

mamasma · 14/02/2020 20:49

Like every year I gave my DD 6 a card and chocolates this morning!weirdo 🙋‍♀️

honesttogod · 14/02/2020 20:50

It's definitely weird. The day is shit as it is but definitely meant for romantic love declarations.

Bluntness100 · 14/02/2020 20:52

Why user thank you,😁

Why does there have to be rules about valentines? That it's only romantic love? Why would anyone possibly object to me sending my daughter a love heart this morning with happy valentines and her saying I love you mum ?

will I go to valentines jail? Should I stop this heinous practice immediately? Abide by the valentines law? Have I been damaging my daughter for nigh on 22 years?

🤣🤣🤣

Bingeslayer · 14/02/2020 20:52

Ha my 7 year said to me last night"oh I'll get a card and chocs tomorrow cos it's Valentine's day " she 'd have shot me if I hadnt delivered.

user32564567 · 14/02/2020 20:55

The Love police will arrest you Bluntness for doing Valentines wrong.

1second · 14/02/2020 20:56

That is sweet @Bluntness100

I have a girl on my facebook who has surprised her three children with a valentines party, red table cloth, heart confetti, red & pink balloons and flowers/teddies spread out on the table, the photo captioned with something along the lines off 'cant wait for the kiddies to see their valentines surprise' . Bloody kids got more than I did 😂 height of nonsense

1second · 14/02/2020 20:57

But yes I will be reporting you to the valentines police for doing it wrong, sorry. You too @mamasma!

I hate when people try to argue that a bullshit, commercialised, money grabbing day is romantic!

It's just a day to show appreciation of love. If you want to stick to tradition of St Valentine don't have sex before marriage or use contraception.

My dog is my valentine (poor DH ;) )

somewhereovertherainbow2 · 14/02/2020 20:58

In my opinion Valentine's Day is about love, any kind of love! It's not weird, I got my husband a 'I love you daddy' key ring from our 9 month old... Grin

TriangleBingoBongo · 14/02/2020 21:00

Yup. Inappropriate.

I remember making my mum a valentines card when I was young. She thanked me but gently explained that valentines was for couples and I’d misunderstood. It’s just halmark making extra money.

Pumpkinandpeas · 14/02/2020 21:00

I see it more as a day about sharing and expressing your love with the people who mean the most to you. Telling your kids that you love them is hardly the crime of the century is it Hmm

PapayaCoconut · 14/02/2020 21:00

In some countries it's called something like"hearts day" and celebrates family, friendship and romantic love. I gave my DD a special breakfast with a small present, heart shaped pancakes and strawberries. She way in a great mood all day after that.

Blackandgreenteas · 14/02/2020 21:01

@Bluntness100 I do agree that people can do as they like with things like this!

Why should it just be romantic love? You don’t get many other holidays with rules as to who can join in.

EdithWeston · 14/02/2020 21:02

"Why does there have to be rules about valentines?"

Because it's a festival which has been going on for a couple of thousand years and has a distinct meaning.

No one wouid begrudge a child giving her widowed father a Mother's Day card on the basis that he'd stepped up to the role and was both mother and father to her. But you would think it weird if a child from an intact nuclear family gave her dad Mother's Day card on the idea that it's about parents.

Romantic love is not he same as other loves
